From my experience, the best thing you can do for yourself is to give your body as much diversity in movement / position as possible. Standing desks are a really great step, but they won't be your cure all. They'll help, but standing will start to hurt eventually too. You gotta move around.

I have one and I like it for the most part. I still like to take sitting breaks every so often, so if you're going to buy one I'd recommend the kind that can rotate back and forth between sitting and standing.

I love mine, I go from standing to sitting and back again pretty regularly throughout the day.

My experience says yes, but I'd recommend something that's easily convertible from a standing desk to a sitting desk so you can vary your stillness throughout the day.

Yes. They are amazing, and you can shift them back down to sit so that you can go back-and-forth. Also, practice good posture while sitting.

Yes they work but don't get one that's only standing. Get one that you can sit at but also expands up so you can stand. You don't want just one or the other, you want both. Also walk around some. Really helps.

Just my personal experience so take it as nothing more, OP, but first of all if you are genuinely experiencing severe back pain go to a doctor and not us dumbasses on an internet forum.

I did the standing desk thing for about a month or two and standing 100% of the day is way worse than sitting, imo. It is an impossible to describe feeling of increased stress and exhaustion without equivalent physical exertion that just makes you feel drained with no added benefit.

So I changed my setup so I could transition back and forth from sitting to standing for about 6 months and that was... better, but I still wasn't really feeling any significant benefit.

Then I started taking walks on my breaks. And that made a massive difference. Two 15 minute walks in the day gets your body and blood moving, without needing to be too concerned about sweat and showering like breaking to go to a work out room (although regular exercise is good too, it is just more convenient for me to do that outside work hours)

So my advice is give walks a shot.

I try to use them at work whenever my workplace will accommodate. I don't really have back pain so much as I have sciatic pain, but either way it can be related to sitting for extended periods of time. I currently don't have a standing desk, and I am really starting to miss it. The transition is weird at first, but my sciatica is made so much better simply by changing this habit.

Yeah it helps break up the day a lot. I stand about half the time and also try to walk around as much as possible.

I have one at work and stand most of the time. I just sit for meetings and when I am reading stuff off screen.
Would not go back to sitting all day.

I have one at work, but never elevate it. Makes it hard to browse resetera on my phone when people can see me. But you can burn twice the calories standing so.......
