I hope they fixed this and added progression between the consoles. Not having cross-play sucks but not having cross progression really grinds me up the most.

Checking a small reddit thread, people are saying that it's not true. Still getting an error when trying to connect their account to the Nintendo Network.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/comments/8yckcm/apparently_you_can_link_your_switch_to_the_epic/

They got this even after the article:

I didn't, I replied to the correct person. This blew up because people saw the accounts were locked out on Switch after being already bound to PS4... This existed with Xbox already and people knew, but the issue only became a big thing after the Switch was also involved. This Epic fix, solves that issue.

It only solves it if you can use your skins and level up your battle pass on Switch and PS4. Some have reported it doesn't carry over progression, so it doesn't solve it at all.

(If this is even real. I've seen one person on Reddit say it still doesn't work.)

It doesn't fix anything if your character and progression doesn't come over with your character. We need it confirming becaue, as it stands, it's suggested that you can log in with your Epic account but it's essentially a fresh account on Switch with none of your unlocks or purchases. You've always been able to make a new account on the Switch/Xbox to play. People just didn't want to because it meant leaving all of their unlocks behind. This is that exact same situation.

I was wondering where IGN even got that info from. I couldn't find anything in the notes.

Moving goalposts.

The issue blew up because Switch was involved.

You were never able to cross-progress between PS and Xbox since launch, why expect it for Switch?

The initial problem is solved, you're raising another issue now and changing your focus.

Sounds to me like you don't understand the situation at all and I can't be bothered to explain it again. Whatever duder.

Okay just logged into fortnite.com with my Nintendo account and continued the setup for my switch-only Epic account. THen I went in and unlinked my nintendo account from that burner Epic account.

Now launching fortnite on the switch prompts me for a log in, I enter my main (PS4) epic account info and and asked for a 2FA security code, so far so good....accept the EULA...further than ever....then

"This Fortnite account is associated with a platform...." same error as always. RIP, fake news

Ah dammit. Thanks for trying anyway. The excitement was good while it lasted!

No, it's actually you who doesn't understand the situation. This all started with not being able to use the same email, not cross-progression. You seem to be the only one not understanding that, duder.

Every article in the first page of this post has something like:
The gamers are complaining because the numerous in-game purchases made with their PS4 accounts - including outfits or "skins" which change the player's appearance - cannot be accessed across platforms.

Are you purposely trying to be obtuse just to keep the issue away from Sony? This does not sound like a proper solution, Fortnite is all about progression. The question still remains, is Sony preventing the ability to carry progression over along with any add-ons that may have been purchased on the PC just because it was once linked to PSN?

There is a bit more then "It was just Switch"

There were 3 platforms whens the Xbox One version came out. The Xbox, Ps4, and PC. At the time, it wasn't unreasonable to expect to not be able your Ps4 account on Xbox One.

When the Switch Version launched, there were 4 other versions of the game. IOS, Xbox, Ps4, and PC. For some reason, if you ever used on of those, you couldn't use your account on your Switch, but the other 3 were fine.

In the time frame between the two, the landscape changed. Before, it was the expected situation, and no one was the odd man out because of it.

Now its clear that Sony is the odd man out, and they are holding people's accounts hostage when even Microsoft and Apple are willing to play ball.

Yes, we have a 140 page thread and it's been reporting on by mainstream news sources like the BBC, CNBC, Sky etc because you're not able to use the same email address on a different system. The outrage.

It's about accounts and the purchases that are connected to those accounts. The accounts mean nothing without the progression and unlocks. Nobody is that connected to a damn email address.

Why wouldn't it surprise me if and when we get a solution from Sony that they'll only allow it with the Switch and not Xbox.
While most of us think of the Switch as a portable and not really a home console competitor, it's clear Sony doesn't share this philosophy; maybe eventually they will, and if they do I expect this will be what we get. No xbox, but at least you can play on the go

Honestly if they did this I feel like 90% of the complaints would go away. There wasn't this clamoring at all for XB1 / PS4 crossplay before for any title and that could have been a thing for years. Like I never heard about the account being locked stuff till the Switch

I literally have a tab open to unlink my Switch account and thought I'd read more into it. I'm so glad I decided to look into it more because it felt TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. Fuck IGN can be really stupid sometimes.

It would definitely make a lot of people happy. But it would be a kinda sucky half-arsed solution and I feel like now people know the problem and who's to blame its kinda hard to solve that perception without fully fixing it.

It'd be a strong step in the right direction but would still be screwing a portion of their player base so, ultimately, not really good enough.

No worries, very easy to relink it back; I just signed back into my burner epic account and I was right back where I was 10 mins before, which is "letting my switch gather dust because there's no point of playing fortnite on it"

Terrible examples. Neither Ubisoft or Destiny offer cross progression that carries over across different consoles, so you can't just make an assumption about Epic when you don't even know what you are talking about. Name me a game that has User accounts and progression carries over between PS4 and Xbox. I'm waiting.

Well... Thats kinda my point though.

Users in this thread are upset because the user account is "locked" and claiming Sony is Anti-Consumer
So Epic should be able to unlock the user account by untieing the progression from the Epic account.

But this ofcourse will make noone happy, because users aren't really upset about the account being locked to a platform. They actually only want the cross-progression.
Which Sony doesn't support, And 99% of game companies on all platforms have not supported either

But I think users feel more morally righteous if they fight over locked/poinsoned accounts rather than cross-progression. As it sounds better to say Sony kicked my dog, and locked my user account. because a poisoned account sounds like Sony actively Did something wrong to something I have a base neccessity for, While Cross-progression is a luxury. It would be great to have, but it isn't not neccessary.

On the plus side, I was able to use the separate Switch account I was forced to create to play a few squad rounds with my main PC account and finish up a challenge before the season ended last night. So I guess it at least came in useful, lol

I'm still salty about this. My Epic account, with 99.9% of my Fortnite time played (and 100% of money spent) on PC, held hostage since I played two rounds on a PS4.

for the 3rd time now the reason bigger games don't have it or are not even on the way of having crossplay, is because of Sony. If they said yes, then we could at least see a future where these games do have crossplay

I am sorry but even for the Nth time, how do you now that?!? Do you really think Take2/Rockstar or even Blizzard/Activion will allow crossplay/cross progress with big hitters like CoD, GTA and Overwatch?!?

Still doesn't change what I said, this STARTED with people complaining about not being able to use the same email. People just added to the issue with cross progression. And again, even what I remember of when this shit started was because of not being able to use the email, not cross progression, people added to the issue later.

And I could care less what these old media people say, they're also so ignorant to video games. They hardly ever know what they're talking about when it comes to video games.

"Epic doesn't lock accounts", "It's not on Epic!"

Epic unlocks accounts.

Nope, this only blew up once people found out it didn't work on Switch... We already knew it didn't work with Xbox before this really grew into a 'big thing'. So this solves that issue.

Moving goalposts.

Should've waited a few more minutes instead of posting knee-jerk replies, lmao. This issue is 100% on Sony. No need to defend them.

Umm here's what I'm reading on Twitter. As always, I've yet to see anyone on ERA try it lol.

If you lose everything anyway what's even the point? Wouldn't that be the same as just making a new account? I guess you get to like.... Keep your username but still. I guess what IGN reported isn't technically inaccurate it just gave people the wrong idea.

Jesus so you basically have to wipe your account. So because I linked my account to PS4, in order to use that account and my mobile purchases on Switch I have to wipe everything. That's some shit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that the initial solution to connecting your fortnite account from PC to console before they improved it?

i'm not going to continue this conversation with you if you're to have this snark condescending attitude

Feel free to repeat it four times if you'd like. "Sony" is not the reason that NBA 2K18, GTA V or any other AAA mulitplatform games currently don't have crossplay. It's absolutely, 100%, incorrect.

EDIT: Also, I apologize for my attitude. I'm just a little frustrated.

It gets crazier. The 4th checkbox explicitly states that unlinking it won't unlock restricted platforms. So even if you fully wipe your account, you still can't use it on Switch.
