Something to note is that the dude who leaked the titles and concept of these games mentioned that while Red and Blue are in the game, that you don't play as them.

With most of the story beats being the same, makes me wonder if Ultra Space is involved with Red makinn an appearance, and we're looking at yet another alternate universe, this time of Kanto. Maybe the new Pokemon is an Ultra Beast too that leads to this meeting!

While the assumption that all these things might happen is a valid one, we actually don't know if that's what's gonna happen.

As far as we know this could take place after the events of the original RGBY and none of these things will happen in that way.

Yeah, its still babys first Pokemon.

This will be fun for lapsed fans for a quick nostalgia blast but I can see lack of challenge preventing them from carrying on.

Go players will have to shell out more than £300 for a game that offers no outdoor exploration, the thing Go thrived on, other than being, you know, free.

I dont know who this is aimed at but it will be interesting to see how it fairs. I imagine it will get great sales just by being Pokemon, but can see it being easily forgotten about within a few months.

Also, please tell me there's skin colours. Fuck animal crossing and fire emblem for not including them, but Pokemon has had them and needs to continue the trend. Nintendo is fucking bad for this kind of stuff for absolutely no reason.

Replacing the original rival, the first person you battle in the Kanto games and the inspiration for the rival in the original season of the anime, with a new one defeats the entire point of this being a nostalgia trip.

Maybe the actual Red will still do all those things and your job will be to cheer him on alongside your Pikachu/Eevee and "friendly rival" in matching cheerleader outfits? :p

And as has been brought up in the thread already, I am also concerned about how easy the game will be when doing co-op. TRying to think of any way to make it a bit more interesting, like using unevolved Pokemon or wrong type matchups but those both sound boring and a waste of everyone's time. And I'm not so sure a Nuzlocke run would work since I don't think any Pokemon will even realistically faint during any 2v1 battles unless you go out of your way to lose.

I guess it looks pretty polished, but I've played this game before. It just doesn't look fun to play, so still an easy pass for me.

It will be a huge game for Nintendo, though.

If the game doesn't have skin tone customisation, then all the excuses for this game being for everyone and for casuals will all be horseshit. Even Go has skin tone changes.

I need that new Kanto map image as a poster or something. It looks fantastic.

I'm gonna say, as much as I prefer good old handheld pokemon format, I'm pretty damn excited for this version of it. My daughter is already 1 and I can easily see her getting into this version of the game while she's so young and eventually transition her to the traditional pokemon games after. Especially with the pokeball controller, gonna blow her tiny little mind.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the latest installment for mobile, has skin colours to choose from. This was also added to New Leaf back in 2016. Also in Happy Home Designer.

So, you know. Read before drawing conclusions.

There is no reason to believe the skin tone feature will not be in this game.

Think about it, maybe that's another reason why the game is not about you playing as Red/Leaf.

The initial trailer showed Nugget Bridge and a fight with Team Rocket in an office. The gym leaders are using the same Pokemon species.

This is gonna be the same ride as before.

Nugget bridge is an iconic moment on the game would be weird to take it out, and Team Rocket being the villians doesn't necessarily means a rehash of the same story.

Yooo I just noticed that Misty's Starmie used Scald in the trailer.

That's a WAY better move than it used in RBY lol. Its not only quite a bit stronger than Bubblebeam (65 bp vs 80 bp), but that 30% chance to burn makes it huge in competitive play.

I bet this means Misty now gives out Scald as a TM, so we're probably gonna have a TM list more similar to gen 7 than 1.

Yes, Nugget Bridge is an "iconic moment". So is going through the Rocket Base with the sliding tiles. So is calming Marowak's ghost. So is waking the two Snorlax. There are a lot of "iconic moments" in RBY.

This game is keeping the same basic structure of Red and Blue, down to Misty's Gym having the exact same layout beneath all the shiny new graphics. But if you keep the same basic structure, that means having the same locations and story beats.

Sure there is, the fact that they haven't shown it and Game Freak's past history of arbitrarily cutting features. I don't have any reason to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Red/Leaf can be renamed and don't even have to be the protagonist in their respective games, they don't have to be light skinned in this one just because of past entries.

Sun/Moon are true mainline titles though. Gen 8 in 2019 will follow the same trend. The LetsGo games are spinoffs, no matter what gamefreak say.
