JRPGs are SERIOUS business.
Not that funny, whats the difference between him and a mod?LOL, i thought he meant a mod warned you or something. But is he the one warning you? HAHAHAHA

Serious reviewers wait to finish it before reviewing it... oh well.
The 'repetition' of the structure and dungeons may actually appeal to me. Now if the design is exceedingly bland visually or in narrative I could see it wearing on me, especially if there's an unfriendly grind (though a good battle system goes a long way for me). Still, I'm ready to dive into a overzealous love letter to old-school JRPGs and this appears to be that. Picking it up.
I checked. But I wasn't.LOL, i thought he meant a mod warned you or something. But is he the one warning you? HAHAHAHA
One is an empty threat, the other can ban your account.
If 8.5 is lukewarm we don't get very many good games each year
The mods don't get upset over review scores.
The opposite here. The only thing scaring me is the grinding talk. I can't handle games that make me grind too much anymore.

It's easier to look past repetition when it's surrounded by an overarching story with characters you care about and grow emotionally invested in. Octopath has nothing like that.

Same. A lot of the character art involves everybody being together. The expectation that this would actually happen at some point was kind of planted from the beginning. The fact that it doesn't is a huge fucking bummer, and an actual dealbreaker for me.Had high hopes for this one as RPGs are my favorite genre, but they were all contingent on the the 8 paths coming together no less than halfway through the game. I don't care if the game got 100s across the board, 8 different path "Saga Frontier" style games are not for me. I don't mind them starting separate, but you need to come together to unify the story, characters and journey, and not wait until the game is nearly over to do it. This is nothing to say with the claims of repetition, while disheartening, I would have dealt with had the story been strong and overarching.
I try to not read reviews because of spoilers
What? Did they say the game was bad in the review then give it a high score?
85 on MC, one of the highest rated games this year, one of the highest JRPG ever from Square Enix but "lukewarm reception"
This was how I felt about the writing ever since the first demo. Felt like I was playing a different game from everyone else gushing over the plot and "dark" topics. Shame that that is what ended up happening :(
So much for the game being the spiritual successor to FFVI. That was clearly a load of bull.
One can ban you to start with.

A lot of the reviews are saying that the game is gorgeous, the music is great, and the gameplay is compelling... but that the game is also pretty grindy (to the point of having to stop everything and grind just to progress), that the characters barely interact, and that the stories are cliched in general.
I'm just surprised this review thread got to 20 pages in less than two hours.

Sounds good to me, I always expect some grinding in rpgs, story part is slightly disappointing but that doesn't bring the positives downA lot of the reviews are saying that the game is gorgeous, the music is great, and the gameplay is compelling... but that the game is also pretty grindy (to the point of having to stop everything and grind just to progress), that the characters barely interact, and that the stories are cliched in general.
Cute pic overall but dang red top's head is doing some crazy Exorcist shenanigans, lol.

That only adds insult to injury of how much I already think Metacritic is a misleading system when it comes to picking games by their "merit" as a consumer. You can't count on scores to be proportional to quality at all. It's funny it seems most of the negative reviews are from outlets that don't give scores, so no one has to complain about metacritic.
I'd post the navy seal copypasta, but someone would probably take it seriously.
That's gonna take a while. Will probably get this later in the year when the price drops.
