I don't know if it's wise to look past your next opponent before you've faced him. Gonna be weird if he gets put to sleep twice in a month.
I don't see how planning your retirement is "looking past" an opponent, other than in an incredibly literal sense. It's not like he's saying he wants to fight for the title after beating Gastelum, just that he only plans to fight one more time.
"Looking past" implies plans contingent on winning your next fight, e.g. "after I beat the no.1 contender I'm taking back the title." Not, "after my next fight I want to fight in my home country."
