Does Lunatone only spawn at night/early morning? Would make sense I suppose, but I can't be out hunting Lunatone at 2 am when I gotta sleep for work.

yeah, most of the spawns I've seen reported have been like after 10-11pm or like 5-6am.

I'm going to Japan, SE Asia, Australia and New Zealand over the next few weeks so hopefully can load up on Torkoal (tho Go Fest will probably tank his North American value) and Relicanth

During the World Championships last year. Was a promo they announced during the opening ceremonies. It was pretty nuts. I'd leave the venue and this would be the scene:

I wasn't playing Go at the time but still managed to catch 2 or 3 while waiting in line in Starbucks and seeing people had it spawn nearby lol. Was in Columbus for the NA International Championships last weekend and was able to trade for Heracross, Corsola, and Mr Mime but yeah Relicanth and Tropius are in very short supply. No one had any =[ Hopefully one of those are the spawn for the World Championships in Nashville this year
Worlds really was insane last year

Can anyone clarify the time ranges for Pokemon spawns in the upcoming event?

Here's the excerpt from Niantic's posting here:
Celebrate Pokémon GO Fest around the World!

Pokémon GO Fest 2018 on July 14 and 15 will be the next stop for fun! Trainers without a ticket to the event won't be able to see any Pokémon or PokéStops in Lincoln Park, but Trapinch, Feebas, and other Pokémon featured in the habitats of Pokémon GO Fest will appear more frequently all over the world during that weekend.

The Cheering Pokémon, Plusle and Minun, will also appear more frequently worldwide as Trainers complete themed Field Research tasks. Catching Plusle and Minun will result in bonus Stardust, and lucky Trainers might even discover their Shiny versions!

The Alolan forms of Diglett and Geodude will be in on the fun, too. Beginning that weekend Alolan Diglett and Alolan Geodude will be appearing globally for the first time in Pokémon GO. Don't miss the chance to encounter the unique forms of these Pokémon.

There will be so much to do on the weekend of Pokémon GO Fest, you won't want to miss it!

So, from what I can tell, Trapinch and Feebas will be spawning a bunch just during that July 14-15 weekend. Alolan Diglett and Geodude will START spawning that weekend, but will continue being available even after that? And what about Shiny Plusle and Minun with stardust bonus? Is that just for the weekend or will it continue on the following week?

Presumably Alola Diglett and Geodude will continue for the foreseeable future just like Rattata.

Seems like everything else is just for the weekend, however.

There will probably be clearer confirmations in the next day or two.

I just realized that shiny Pokemon people don't have cost 1,000,000 to trade. Rip my chances of getting a Tropius this weekend.

I'm going to need to pay close attention when looking for shiny Plusle and Minun since they barely look any different from their regular versions.

Just making sure, but I can't have a friend play on my account this weekend in Chicago to catch Torkoal right? You need to have bought a Go Fest ticket and attached it to your account to get those spawns?

This also makes me think of one of those weird scenarios thats now possible but probably against many terms of service which is basically the 'Pokemon Mule'

You create an account using PTC , and use it to catch as many regionals as you can (and basically nothing else) other than become friends with some people in other regions

You have a day not logged in (to allow for travel time) - and give those account details to someone in the next region , they transfer the regionals they need , and then use it to catch their regional pokemon
Again , a day not logged in (to allow for travel time) and pass it on to the next region - etc etc

Well, frustration and joy simultaneously.

My girlfriend has been stuck on catching 10 ghosts for the Mew quest for a couple months so I took her phone out to try in the early morning hours. Still found nothing, but because I had two accounts we fought three raids - Onix, Mawile, Aerodactyl. We got a smattering of rare candy, I finished a raid 3 quest to get a 96% Dratini, which completed a 3 rare candy quest, and the Aerodactyl is now my 4th 100% (alongside a Machamp, Wobbuffet, and Nosepass).

I do hate the raid rewards distribution, though - both of us got the first 2 raids and I had to solo the Aero, which means that my girlfriend got 8 rare candy from 2 raids while I got 4 from 3. But I did get about 30 super potions, which are so useful in this gifting economy....

my rule is catch all you can and don't transfer until you go into your pokemon inventory and can verify they don't have the three sparkles next to them. that's what I did/am doing with Roselia, caught so many of them and still never seen the three sparkles next to one.

You are given an explicit warning before transferring a shiny (right after the standard warning) and the game literally doesn't let you select a shiny for mass transferring. It shouldn't be possible to transfer one without knowing.

The problem is noticing it's shiny while catching, as non-legendary shiny Pokemon aren't a guaranteed catch and can flee.

Man, they chose the most uninteresting legendaries possible for this lol. Three that have been in the game forever, that were basically given out during the past three months, two of which have uninteresting shinies.

Haven't they already done exclusive fast moves with one of the community days? I don't really see the big deal, gym system is so braindead that I usually don't even bother with TM's.
Yeah, but raids are gated by gyms and whether you can find sufficient people to raid with. The mechanics are a bit different than community day, especially if you want to go shiny hunting. There were people in this thread who mentioned during Articuno Day that they either didn't meet up with people (they're not in a raid group) or their town simply doesn't have concentrated gyms, meaning they need to travel more distance instead of casually walking in an area with a lot of spawns.

Hey, has there been any indication when the Celebi quest goes live that it would replace the Mew quest or will it have it's own separate tab? Only started the Mew quest two weeks ago when I got back into Pokémon Go and will be another week or so till I complete it? Would hate for my progress to disappear and miss out on Mew.

Yeah they updated the special research area with tabs to prep for multiple special research tasks. Think of each special research as if they're a level in a game.

Special raids and Pokémon throughout downtown Chicago all weekend. I think we're definitely getting new raids this weekend, but I'm not sure if they'll be Chicago only.

I definitely need to go hard for Zapdos (Team Instinct!) so hopefully I can get 2 shinies and trade someone for a shiny Articuno
