Cubed3 - 9 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is an absolute joy to behold, from its cute visual styling and delicious soundtrack and audio utterances from the main characters, to the expertly crafted self-contained stages, jam-packed with smart puzzles to solve and a plethora of goodies to uncover. This was one of those Wii U gems that thoroughly deserved another shot at the limelight, and with its excellent new additions now, it is indeed time to shine bright.

GamesBeat - 9 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is charming, fun, and — in a rarity for Nintendo's Wii U ports — right-priced for the Switch.

IGN - 8.7 out of 10 (Video Review)
Treasure Tracker still feels close to unique, and gains new life on both of Nintendo's current systems. Switch is very much the better choice, but 3DS is by no means a bad option. Still smart, prettier than ever and, in retrospect, genuinely important as part of Nintendo's modern history, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a rare example of a game that actually feels better for being a few years old.

Nintendo World Report - 8.5 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker remains the fun game it was before, though there is no need to play it twice. Most of the original content is present in this release with the Odyssey content being the exception. The sheer variety of puzzles and fun gameplay mechanics deserve to be experienced at the very least. It doesn't really matter if you do that on Nintendo 3DS or Switch as both run quite excellent.

God is a Geek - 8.5 out of 10
The best part is that this is a great game to play on the go, the levels are short enough to crack out a couple on a short commute or loads on a long one, and they're packed with extra challenges that take little time to accomplish as well. Yes there are some problems with the transition from machine to machine(s), but this is still a very welcome return of this brand of puzzle-action.

Pocket Gamer UK - 8 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a beautifully charming perspective puzzler that deserved a second chance at success. It's also a decent - though not quite perfect - fit on Switch.

Gameblog - 8 out of 10
Just like Captain Toad, if you can't jump, you'd better use your brain. This down-to-earth approach transforms the environments into puzzles that require to look harder - and dig deeper - than expected in order to find all of their design treasures. And despite a lack of additional content, such wonders get even shinier on Switch.

Vooks - 8 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker offers very little for those who have played it before, but if you haven't played before then you're in for a treat. Treasure Tracker might look adorable on the surface but under lurks a fun and innovative puzzler, one that might just be better played on your own adventure away from the TV.

Nintendo Life - 8 out of 10
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a hidden gem from the Wii U era that's been given a new lease of life on the Nintendo Switch, and rightly so. New levels and fresh multiplayer are welcome inclusions but it's a bit of a shame that we've lost four levels as a result – and for no apparent reason. Still, all being said, this is a wonderful and gorgeous puzzler fit for all ages, and one which you should definitely experience if you're yet to.

Wccftech - 7.5 out of 10
One of the most delightfully charming puzzle games of in recent memory and the dollhouse-style puzzle boxes are wonderful to explore and it's cute and adorable all the way through. Sadly, Wii U owners will find few reasons to pick up this edition of the game, but anyone who hasn't already played Captain Toad will find a puzzle game they'll finish and just want more of.

Videogamer - 7 out of 10
While this Switch re-release doesn't add as much as some may hope, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is still a delight.

TrustedReviews - 6 out of 10
There is a charmingly competent puzzler here, yet it's hard to recommend without an abundance of caveats. If you've yet to play the Captain Toad and solving cute and charming puzzles, it could be worth a shot if it drops in price, even though the asking price is lower than most to begin with. If possible, and if you own a Wii U, you would be better off dusting that system down and playing it on there.

Gamexplain - Liked it a lot

Polygon
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for Switch is measurably better in all ways than the original game — according to the technical analysts at Digital Foundry, the 3DS version is great too — but more importantly represents a chance for many Nintendo fans who skipped the Wii U to finally see what all the fuss is about.

US Gamer
If you missed out on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker the first time it was around, then there's no better time to dive in. If you've played it before though, the new offerings of Super Mario Odyssey-themed levels won't be that enticing, unless you have a kid to bring into the fun for co-op.

VG427
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is an incredibly bare-bones port, but that doesn't really matter in the end. We all know it was originally released on a naff platform next to nobody owned, and a game this fun and charming deserves a second chance. The Switch and 3DS versions are fine ports, and suitable for just that.

TheSixthAxis
Nintendo's continued run of Wii U ports has to have a finite end, but while Switch players are getting games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker then its best just to bask in it. Gloriously cheerful, charming and enthralling, it's only diminishing features are its slightly short length and lack of difficulty for seasoned players.

I skipped it in its day for Wii U but I liked its levels in 3D World. I'll probably buy it in the future.

This and Tropical Freeze were the best games on the Wii U. I am pre-loaded and ready for this one and maybe....maybe this time I can finally beat Mummy Me Forever. I don't know how I can get 107% on Hollow Knight yesterday and not be able to beat goddamn Mummy Me Forever.

I'm gonna guess it'll be a 83 on metacritic. Seems like the Mario Odyssey levels are much better than the 3D World based ones. Also the quality of life improvements are a nice change.

This is one of the underappreciated gems of the Wii U. Get it if you missed the original release and are a fan of EPD Tokyo's games.

For everyone that skipped it on the Wii U, you're in for a treat, this game is really awesome, definitely one of the best on the Wii U. Don't know if the few added levels will be enough for me to double dip on it, especially with the amount of games I am currently working on and Octopath releasing Friday, but if you haven't played it before, definitely check it out.

Have the 3D world levels been cut or are they still in alongside the Odyssey stuff?

The 3D world levels were replaced by the Odyssey levels. It's not a huge omission since the Odyssey levels are properly designed Captain Toad levels rather than the weird ported levels, but it is still a cut.

This game really is a hidden gem. I am glad that other players can have the chance to play it now.

Can't believe I haven't bought a single game for my switch in 2018, then they drop two games I desperately want on the same day. So excited to play Captain Toad again. I'm glad I put off the replay I was going to do last year.

I wish the demo for this was a little bit longer. I know all the reviews for this are positive, but I really wasn't enjoying the 3 levels they let you play.

Does that also apply to the 3DS version? Or are there new levels made for that version too (based on 3D Land or something)?

3DS also gets the Odyssey levels.

Version parity (namely the 3DS not being able to run some of the levels from 3D World) might actually be why they removed them, but that's just speculation.

8.7? *smacks forehead*

Nothing quite like arbitrarily assigning a decimal value to a $40 port of a four year-old Wii U game. It's just silly.

I don't need to double dip on this, why am I tempted to? why did I watch that IGN review and be bowled over by the magnitudes of CHARM?!

Huh, now you mention it, I'm also in this boat.
Nightmare King Grim can't compare to the true horror of mummy me forever.
