I miss the pre-Trump Hollywood. A Hollywood with morals. A compassionate, loving Hollywood that you could count on to do the right thing.

It feels like since the election all Hollywood cares about is money. It's a damn shame.

Hollywood has always been like that? what?

This was expected. Also, i kind find the white people sux comments funny. This whole saga was prime example of international rescue mission done right. People from various nations came together to save kids trapped in a cave. At great personal risk, i might add.

I admit that the studio we are talking about would probably make ghastly movie about white saviour, but at right hands this could be inspiring film.

I can't wait for Pure Flix to make the film about America somehow and also retcon the buddhist coach and the kids into being Christians. Pure Flix probably won't be able to handle the subject matter well, especially after their Columbine film.

I just hope the family of the deceased diver / the kids / coach make bank from this, I guess.

Seems a bit scummy to get in there already, but i hope the families of the kids and rescuers can make some darn good money for going through something so harrowing, and those who acted quite heroically.

I am very curious as to who they are buying the 'rights' from? Can something that happens in real life be copyrighted? Presumably they are seeking the rights of the mine, and surrounding areas from the Thai government, then also the names of the children and prominent rescue staff from them?

I'm curious what rights they're looking to obtain. No one owns the rights to the events themselves, so I guess participation of the people involved?

Seriously?

Seriously in that Hollywood has always been chasing after people from serious events to turn their experiences into a movie? There is literally tons of movies about Real life deadly events, The person I quoted thinks this is something that has only recently begun.

Isn't Pure Flix that production studio responsible for right-wing conservative "War on Christians"-movies like God's not Dead?

Doesn't really have too much to do with Hollywood tbh and is, quite frankly, even worse. Leave these children the fuck alone.

Just another reason to boycott everything american. Email your local politicians and push for Americans to be kicked out of your country.

Man I never see these fucking movies because it's so obviously exploitative without knowing they are there days after something like this.

Given PureFlix's original films being gobshite like God's Not Dead and Old Fashioned, it would still be shit.

Besides, this goes well with their other tragedy-exploiting film, I'm Not Ashamed, which was about Columbine.

I heard of all these movies but Old Fashioned, so I went and found the synopsis. It sounds like a parody synopsis, except it isn't:

"Clay Walsh, a former frat boy, runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an "old-fashioned" and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America."

I don't doubt they would make a movie about the boys that turns all the jokes in this thread into the actual movie :v

You legitimately believe that Hollywood was a healthy industry pre-#metoo and pre-Trump, when it was entirely white male dominated and while it still is, it's finally moving into adding inclusivity, diversity and equality...yet you think that somehow they had integrity because they were more respectful of recent events?

Hollywood has always cashed in on celebrity deaths, tragedies, serial killers and recent events to tell stories that range from respectable to too soon. As long as they deal with the subject matter respectfully, starting on a movie now that will likely be released in 3-4 years is fine.

The outrage in this thread is hilarious.

Feels almost like it would be politically incorrect not to be disgusted at Hollywood no?

There's nothing novel or surprising about them chasing a story during the aftermath when the ending is a happy one.

And yes they will "whitewash" the story because they are adapting it for American audiences. Remember that movie about the tsunami in Thailand with Naomi Watts? The one that focused on American tourists and Thai locals were in the background? Now THAT was some shameless shit.
