Synopsis pulled from Steam Store page.
Roguelite? Metroidvania? Roguevania!
You grew up with the roguelikes, witnessed the rise of the roguelites and even the birth of the roguelite-lites? We'd now like to present for your consideration our RogueVania, the illegitimate child of a modern Roguelite (Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky, etc.) and an old-school MetroidVania (Castlevania: SotN and its ilk).

Features:
  • RogueVania: The progressive exploration of an interconnected world, with the replayability of a rogue-lite and the adrenaline pumping threat of permadeath.
  • 2D Souls-lite Action: Tough but fair combat, more than fifty weapons and spells with unique gameplay, and of course, the emergency panic roll to get you out of trouble.
  • Nonlinear progression: Sewers, Ossuary or Remparts? Once unlocked, special permanent abilities allow you to access new paths to reach your objective. Opt for the path that suits your current build, your play style or just your mood.
  • Exploration: Secret rooms, hidden passages, charming landscapes. Take a moment to stroll the towers and breath in that fresh sea mist infused air...

Interconnected levels and progressive unlocking of access to the island provides you with a real incentive to explore your surroundings. Add in a degree of evolution for your character and permanent weapon upgrades and you can see where Dead Cells borrows from the long line of MetroidVanias that precede it.

At the end of the day though, it's YOUR skills as a player that matter most! Roguelites are about constantly getting better, until what was an insurmountable obstacle becomes a walk in the park. Unforgiving combat wed to the absence of any kind of safety net makes for an adrenalin pumping ride each and every run and unrivaled replayability.

I just pre-ordered a physical copy off Amazon the other day. They're like $30 on PS4, $35 for Switch, if I recall. Can't wait.

with mrs. glitches
It's a very nice looking game but I still feel like it's seriously lacking in gameplay depth. You either get a god roll DPS item or you lose... Kinda very little in-between, at least in my experience (have gotten passed the clock tower boss).

Glad I was able to grab it while it was on sale before the price increase (and for extra cheap). I'm not sure how much I'm going to play of it, but I'll give it a good try.

With the upcoming price increase, just a heads up - this game is currently on sale on Voidu. Apply the coupon code SCHOOLSOUT, and you can knock it down to $10.80/€9.22

One of the few games were I actually wanna play a demo. I have no clue if the game is for me or not. I like what's there, but I heavily dislike perma-death. Even if you keep a bit of progress, it's a grind I won't do for more than a few times. I just hate the feeling of literally "wasting my time", since there was no progression.

Already have it for PC but really want the switch version. I have a hard time believing they would be able to get this to run on the switch without any compromises.

are we getting another update on the 7th august or it's just an arbitrary date?
i had this game on early access for a while but i decided to put it aside until it was finished..so i wanna know if i can start it now and get the full experience or we are gonna get a final update.

Switch is my go to indie platform so as long as the price difference isn't too big I guess this is the one I'm picking.

Can't wait, I'm itching for some solid indie game, especially so after the fantastic Hollow Knight.

Cologne (Germany)
Got a free copy because I was a volunteer at the Indie booth at gamescom last year.
Didn't give it a try yet because of Early Access but that will change in August.

Love the look of this game so much and the combat looks really satisfying, but I've never enjoyed rogue-anything. The genre (sub genre?) just isn't for me, apparently.

So we get Chasm on July 31, Dead Cells on August 7th, and Death's Gambit on August 14th? Gonna be a busy few weeks for me on PS4.

Bought the game on Steam a while back and have tried to avoid playing it so as not to "spoil" the final version. I might pick it up again on Switch. Seems like the perfect game for that platform.

For those who have been playing in early access, to what extent is this game like Rogue Legacy? Is it possible to beat the game on the first run of a new save, or are certain areas gated by not having upgraded enough?

Is this insanely hard?
Its kinda hard but the permanent upgrades really help i prefer havin those in roguelikes imo makes them better and gives them a sense of procesion.

Theres also difficulity levels you can select.
But if you keep playin you should be able to beat it. It's honestly the only good castlevania roguelike imo so far.
