This is a testament to his sheer greatness. I am a unashamedly fanatical Messi fan, but the money involved at his age shows how incredible and consistent Ronaldo has been for such a long time. Hats off to him.

Is it common for football teams just trading away a player for cash? Like was he going to be a free agent or what?

I'd be fucking pissed if I was a fan and my team traded away one of the best players in the world and all we got out of it was an owners pocket getting fatter.

Welcome, dude.

I kind of feel sorry for fans of the other italian teams. We've been winning everything for almost a decade now and I imagine this won't really boost their morale.

Real Madrid has no owner. The club is owned by the 60,000+ members/socios.

the player who eliminated them at the last Champions League joins them
I bet you that the respect shown to him By Juventus fans after he scored this, played a part in his decision. I doubt he'll ever get jeered at by these fans as he did from Real fans.

This is really difficult for me :(

Players aren't "traded" around for other players like it is in North American sports. A team places a value on a player (sometimes certain teams would even have a buyout clause), and if another team offers the requested transfer fee, they than can go ahead and negotiate with said player to get their services. Once the player agrees to personal terms with the team that wants him, his team is then paid the transfer fee.

Trades may happen but they're rare. In fact this year (Sanchez for Mkhitaryan) is the first straight trade the I have personally seen.

The juxtaposition of him being grateful to Juventus fans applauding him in the Turin match and him getting angry at people not cheering when Real scored the penalty in Madrid after losing 3-0 makes me think this has played a part. He was furious at his audience.

I had thought selling Higuain instead of Benzema was a mistake and selling Ozil was an even bigger one... that turned out differently.

Let's see how this turns out.

He's 33 and on very high wages.

If Madrid restructure their team by bringing in 2 or 3 quality players to replace him, like Juventus did with Zidane. They will come out stronger.

Ronaldo had to leave sometime, this way Juventus have received nine(?) years of service from him, a score of trophies AND made a profit.

I would call that a win.

Good luck with that, more like they will get Neymar for a exorbitant transfer fee and very high wages, and that will be it.

Real is not owned by one person, and election are held to elect the president every few years. If he fucks up he can kiss his position goodbye.

That's pretty interesting. Isn't €30m per year much less than he gets paid now?

He is 33 but then again he is still in better condition than 99% of footballers.

I hate Juve but this is a good move by all parties involved. Serie A is great for aging stars and Ronaldo still has a lot to give. Should pair up nicely with Dybala. I wonder if they try to sell Higuain?

Also this sucks for Napoli.

Wonder if Madrid going go for Hazard? Probably will cost more than Ronaldo

Chelsea have never been more vulnerable with the manager situation though, and I think Hazard is one of the few big name players who's at Real's level and is attainable.

Mad that this is happening. Madrid gonna be on a warpath transfer wise.

Ehh, Going to Juve is like going to PSG. Where's the challenge.
Who on earth does Cristiano Ronaldo need to prove himself to? Real has won what, 2-3 La Liga titles while he played? The challenge you're asking about is in regards to how well Juventus do with CR7 in the Champions League.

Glad I got to see Ronaldo a few times in Madrid a few times. Will be fucking weird once LaLiga starts to not see him.

Will be weird to see him play for another club after being at Real for so long.

WOW!

I mean, we've been expecting it, but damn. This is a proper market bomb! Not only does Juve gain a whole lot of potential (remains to be seen how well Juve adapts to his playstyle and vice-versa) to win the CL + internal competitions but the market as a whole will likely be shaken by this! RM will buy replacements and force other clubs to also buy new players.

Should be a fun month (even after the WC ends).
