We've had the official source for over 12 hours.

I personally didn't get "small changes" from Toriyama's comment, to me it feels more like he's redoing the character. Guess we'll see.

Ok that wasn't on there last I checked. That was the original site I looked at. Thanks.

Also, toriyama said that he went back and watched all of the older movies. Why else would he do that unless he were using that as a base? He's not totally rewriting him.

Using the original as a base doesn't mean he isn't redoing him. I just don't get the feeling that he'll be the same. I'm sure he'll have things in common, but I get the feeling that he'll be heavily reworked.
He said he went back to watch the movies because he literally didn't remember Broly.

He said he went back to watch the movies because he literally didn't remember Broly.
The whole point in doing this was for the old fans of broly. It would be silly to even mention that and then do something completely different. Why not just create a new character? Why did he need to go back in watch the old movies? Why bother trying to remember broly? I'll tell you why: He wants to get it right.

again, I feel he is not totally rewriting broly.

Thanks.

He's probably going to be revealed as the original SSG beerus wanted to fight.

But it would be much cooler of they introduced him as a Super Saiyan Devil. Exact opposite.

Introduce a whole new plethora of villain possibilities

I mean, it's common practice, especially in comic books, to take an old character and make something new with them.
Of course he'd need to watch the old movies to decide what he feels works and what doesn't.
Broly was suggested because of his popularity, but Toriyama wanted to do his own version. All Toriyama said is that he kept Broly's "classic image" in mind when making his version, as to not upset fans.
Toriyama liked the Bardock special, but when it came to doing his own version of Bardock he totally ignored that special, Toriyama just likes to do his own thing.

He hates everyone. The reason why he is "KAKAROTTT" all the time is because Goku reminds him of his trauma's/ childhood. After Broly is unleashed, he literally says "You Kakarot, you will be the first of my victims". When Broly was under control, he would ignore everything and everyone coming at him just to fight Goku. After he is unleashed, he doesn't care about Goku that much anymore and goes out his way to fight the other Z fighters.

And then the sequels and video games happened and his entire character became about his Goku obsession.

My prediction is that this Broly is going to be the Super Saiyan the old legends talked about. He's both the person who started the legend that Frieza eventually grew to fear as well as the Saiyan that Beerus originally dreamed about. Frieza, post Tournament of Power, is going to be out trying to conquer a few worlds again and stumbles upon a frozen Broly on some ice planet and accidentally awakens him (or intentionally awakens him but doesn't realize how powerful Broly is). Then Frieza basically asks Goku and Vegeta to clean up his mess.

Even in the sequel, he's justifiably mad at Goku for putting him in a coma for 7 years. Bio-Broly is just a clone so he don't really count.

He has plenty of personality in the Xenoverse games. He's just sadistic and wants to kill everything, as non-Earth based Saiyans are wont to do.

Yamoshi is the Super Saiyan of legend.

Honestly is it weird I have no strong feelings on Broly one way or the other?

Seems like it's always you either love him or hate him, but I've always just been kind of "ok."

(I do like Kale though.)

I can't believe the movie is just called "Broly"

I'm glad Toei Animation seem so aware of their audience in America, because that is certainly a title for them. They aren't being coy, there's no 'Resurrection 'F'' - it's as simple and to the point as the character himself - 'Broly'.

The English lettering comes first. This one's for you, America.

Apathy towards Broly seems sensible to me. And I get the 'Hulk' tear shit up love he gets. The hatred towards the character is bizarre to me - he isn't interesting enough to have anything beyond mild dislike.

I just hope this won't be about Goku protecting Frieza from Broly's rage over killing the saiyan race.

Nah, that's pretty much me too. I don't watch many of the movies and Kale is alright with me as well. At least she's more likeable than Caulifla lol.

Someone holding Beerus responsible for the destruction of Vegeta is a story beat I've been waiting for, so if it's Broly that has to give him hands for it, then I'm down.

Maybe Vegeta will join in once he learns the truth.
Yeah, I've been waiting for the "Beerus is the real reason Planet Vegeta was destroyed" plot point to come back for a while

It's Dragon Ball Super, he and Goku will go "ATaTaTaTATAT!!!" until Goku runs out of energy, at which point he'll have to regain his energy (by continuing to fight), until he awakens an asspull power mid-fight.
You single out Super, but Goku has fought like that all of Dragon Ball. The longer he fights, the stronger he gets. It's consistent with the whole series.

Yup, while at most having some bruises and spitting saliva whenever they land powerful punches. (jiren fight)

nah, he used to need a Senzu bean or some other macguffin, Super is when they first came up with the brilliant idea that he needed to expend more energy to regain his energy.

I mean, nah.

He beats Piccolo with all his limbs broken, twice. Second time with a gaping hole in his chest.

He wakes up from an attack meant to knock him out for 10 days cuz Bulma tells him she has food for him, which invigorates him.

He fights Master Roshi for over six hours straight in the tournament and only loses because he was tricked into having his chin struck hard enough.

He still participates in the fight against Vegeta, again, with all his limbs crushed and every bone in his body broken. Still forms a Spirit bomb.

He becomes a Super Saiyan against Frieza while he has no energy left, and even overpowers Frieza at full strength.

It's entirely reasonable he's able to regain his stamina fighting opponents way weaker he is in a 48 minute time-frame, after he's shown to be able to participate in a tournament setting ALL DAY as a child and only get winded during the final stretch.

Goku continues to fight until he's dead. That's always been consistent with the character throughout the series. The only exception is with Cell, because he planned for Gohan to win.

So the thing about Broly that always threw me off was the whole "legendary" Super Saiyan thing. I get it's the whole naturally born like that thing, but Goku transforming was already the legendary Super Saiyan! Why would there be a separate greenish one????

Made him more legendary.

I don't believe they really cared. He just looked cool so they went with that.

This is like the worst movie title for one of these yet. Not "Revival of the Legend: Broly" or even "Hyper Broly".

Just "Broly".

Broly is the second worst DB character.
I don't want to watch a movie about him.
But I do enjoy that it makes everyone really mad for some reason, so I'm ok with this.

I feel like your nostalgia goggles are clouding your memory of DBZ. For example, here's an example of a fight where Goku was completely exhausted and beaten up and then pulled a transformation out of his ass and was perfectly okay to fight again right after. You might not recognize it since it's an obscure moment in the series history....

You can be that reductive of all of Dragon Ball Z's villains. Broly has as cogent a backstory as any of them.

eh I disagree.

While the others are not shining beacons of story relations i can at least get their motives and brand them as villains for that.

There is nothing interesting in his backstory save for the part hes very strong and his pops is a dick.

And that's before he turned to screaming "KAKAROTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" near 24/7

If Broly's name has to be in the title, I will take just 'Broly' over either of your suggestions, lol.

I'd prefer the title to be less on-the-nose and be called something like Legend of the Saiyans, or something. Nod to it instead of just "yes, broly is in this one"

I hope they make Paragus and Broly's relationship less of what it was in the original movie and more like there is some actual trust there. I also want them to make Paragus into a decent to good fighter so we can have more than just the good guys beat on Broly for 2 hours. Maybe Frieza kills off Paragus and thats what sets Broly off to turning into the LSSJ. He controlled it due to his father's influence like in the original but there is respect and love there, not the dumb mind control. I dunno I have been floating around ideas in my head for this thing.

Whoops meant to post this in the DBS general
