I can only suggest to ignore them so you can continue having a conversation with those focused on the racism angle.

Anyone who veers into defending that weirdness with hygene is ridiculous but the value in even addressing those that don't go that far is limited imo.
That's very true but I am who I am lol thank you for advice tho and I dont block ppl dont agree or disagree I'll listen to your opinion then tell you its stupid

Edit for funny ass typo lol

So if we don't how dirty some people are, or how dirty their swimsuits are, we should totally just allow anyone and everyone to wear their socks in the pool! No mental gymnastics there at all right?

If this woman singled this person out and others were breaking the rules, then yes she's a racist and deserves to be fired. But wearing socks in the pool is not ok.

What is this stereotype of perceived lower class situation of minorities like a black person that they don't shower/bathe/wash their clothes at home because they don't have the facilities or can't afford the water and electric bills, so they go to places like pools to bathe or wash their clothes.

I had to have someone explain this as a joke to me in an episode of Family Guy of why Cleveland was dipping his toes into the pool.. he was washing his feet in the pool.

People let their non potty trained children into the pool. People have their periods in the pool. People piss all the time in the pool. No one showers before entering the pool

Socks should be the least of your concern when going into a public pool.

I'm just sitting here laughing at the thought of the people in this thread who are literally "disgusted" by the idea of someone wearing socks in the pool.

Like, how do you fucking function on a daily basis? The world is a filthy place and unless you're living in a bubble, you're exposed to much worse than someone's socks on a practically minute-to-minute basis.
But Black ghetto cuckold-inducing thug sweat was on the socks dammit!

Yeah, people choosing this thread as the battlefield for Clothes v Swimming Pool are making me scratch my head. Especially Europeans who have no clue how American pools work.

No one is forced to shower. People wear shirts and regular shorts/underwear all the time.

This is not an incident of pool etiquette being broken in some new and particularly heinous way. Cops are not generally called for this kind of infraction.

This thread is about a lady 1) calling the cops 2) on a black person 3) for doing the same thing white people do in this very pool (even at the very same moment)... wearing regular clothes in the pool.

This incident is not significant because pool rules were broken. It's significant because it's painfully obvious that the only reason cops were called (a hilarious overreaction if circumstances were different) is that the person in question is black.

The problem is, and I'm absolutely sure people aren't doing it intentionally, is that everybody is assuming everybody else is super clean, but this black guy's socks were absolutely dirty. Because if we're assuming everybody is clean, why aren't we also assuming that this dude threw on some clean socks for the pool?

I'm sure it's by accident, though.

Like, absolutely.

100% accidental.

You have yet to give any reason for why it's not ok other than your own feelings. Unless you are personally inspecting every single person that goes into the pool to make sure they and every article of clothing they are wearing is clean, there is no justification for singling out socks. Why is everyone except the black guy and his socks getting the hygiene benefit of the doubt from you?

There is no difference between socks and any other dirty article of clothing you might wear in the pool that other people do all the time. Just because you have an irrational fear of socks does not mean there is real danger.

This is how I feel. I wouldn't of called the cops though. Dude probably didn't cut his toenails or something though. I've been there. Lol. Because his excuse about getting his feet burned doesn't make sense if he was wearing flip flops. It's gotta be the toenails

It does if you dont want to take them off every 2 seconds with little kids in the pool that you constantly have to go back and forth to check on

Dude socks are known to absorb sweat in the summer. And feet are known to be the most stinkiest part of the body, besides maybe arm pits. When I finish work I'm the summer and everyone takes there boots off, it's disgusting. You can't compare it to a pair of shorts

You answered your own question. As has been pointed out by non-Americans, in most parts of the world you get kicked out of public pools (and possibly banned) for entering without showering first or for wearing socks (or other street clothes).

Have you been to a pool? Off and on? You keep them beside the pool like everyone else does. I don't understand how ppl find that hard to understand. I've never seen anyone wear socks at a pool.

Ok, but now that it's been explained at least a dozen times, why are said posters still going on about things are in Europe? This is not the thread for European pool etiquette. This is a thread about a racist lady in America. Get with the topic or move the fuck on. Make your own thread about how nasty american pools are.

I dont see why you find it hard to understand we dont all share your view we do things differently and I certainly never see ppl leave their sandals beside the pool

My balls get pretty vinegary during the summer. Sometimes I gotta take a shower and change boxers to feel better.

Dude people swim with their dirty shirts on that has pit sweat all over them. They swim with underwear that has skid marks on them. You are really not thinking this through.

You're the one implying this person doesn't wash their socks after wearing them once. Law and order. Because reasons.

If unwashed feet are allowed in the pool, then so are socks. Feet are gross in general, so a layer covering that is cool with me.
The weird disconnects from some comments I've seen here...throwing a hissy over socks, but not minding asses, cocks and balls, vaginas and armpits all adding to the rich broth that is public pool water. If chlorine can take care of all that shit without you fainting from the shock of it all, then it can deal with a pair of fucking socks.

It's like those people that drop a carrot on their clean kitchen floor and throw it away...the fucking thing came out of the ground, but your kitchen floor is gross? Bizarre logic at play.

No, this is just an assumption you are making. "People" don't always do these things, and even when they do, this doesn't somehow make adding one more non-hygienic practice into the mix ok. You are using a moral equivalence fallacy.

You certainly don't call the cops on them.

I agree with you that this is not a normal first reaction, especially if it is racially motivated.

The problem is, and I'm absolutely sure people aren't doing it intentionally, is that everybody is assuming everybody else is super clean, but this black guy's socks were absolutely dirty. No, it's just common sense. On average, there is less likelihood to have a swimsuit be as dirty as sock. Also, you are supposed to shower before jumping in the pool, this is enforceable in many public and condo pools.

Articles of clothing? You just wear swimsuit in the pool and maybe a shirt, nothing else. On average, a sock is more likely to be dirty than a swimsuit. Nothing to do with race. No other articles of clothing should be worn. Common sense. Even if you can't check for everything, by allowing anyone the exception of wearing a sock in a pool (black or white or whatever race), then you are allowing everyone to start wearing socks in the pool, that's a slippery slope.

There is no difference between socks and any other dirty article of clothing you might wear in the pool that other people do all the time. Just because you have an irrational fear of socks does not mean there is real danger.

Yes there is and I'm sure you're smart enough to know that!

Edit: Obviously I'm sort of derailing the thread. The actions of the woman are not right and she's clearly a racist. I just think that's very obvious and doesn't warrant any discussion. The more interesting discussion point is the sock issue and how it should not be allowed. I find lately that more and more people in Era are constantly using the moral equivalence fallacy and it's really worrying.

Guys, just because X is not as bad as Y, it doesn't mean that X is suddenly acceptable.

Coming at me with the hard science!
Despite your sarcasm, it's not just about science, but also about social norms and what is considered acceptable practice in a community.

Here is a scenario for you to consider: You just put on clean clothes and socks. After 30 minutes of walking in hot weather, your forehead is sweating. At this point, you can wipe your forehead with your shirt sleeve or your sock. Based on scientific knowledge and social norms, do you think wiping your forehead with your sock is the smarter decision? Why?

Yeah, I mean, I agree with you, statistically speaking. I personally work with FHP and local authorities, and you're right. The vast majority of the time -- nada.

But you're still putting energy into fighting for a statistic for an organization that has a MAJOR accountability problem. You're gonna get heat for it.
I know they do, and I really don't care about the heat, I got wide shoulders and thick skin. I am in no way sticking up for trash cops or lack of accountability on many of the accounts where people of color have been unjustly shot or beaten and killed. Just that it is still a tiny fraction if incidents. People act as if this is the norm that all cops are racist, trigger happy murderers. When reality says otherwise.

Again, in no way am I defending this shit that has gone down or that will unfortunately continue.
