im waiting for my dentist to open to see if I can get in on an emergency lol.

In the mean time these are my symptoms.

Right jaw pain that is constant, tooth/gum ache comes and goes on right side, headaches that come and go on right side of head by temple, right ear ache that comes and goes.

A few years ago I got a bacteria infection under one of my teeth that caused a lot of the problems you're describing, jaw pain, achy tooth and gums everything just radiated pain. Had to get a root canal.

In that case fever will come later, won't be immediate. Go to the dentist asap (I'm not a dentist btw, just saying that does sound serious)

When I had my problem it was a pretty quick onset. I was working nights and it started in the middle of the night. I loaded up on ibuprofen and started googling for a dentist. I emailed them at like 3am and surprisingly they got back to me 2 hours later and scheduled me for an emergency visit right at 8am. It's good that you're already at the dentist getting it taken care of.

I'm going to hijack this thread for my own question. I have an appt with the dentist in a month but in the meantime I have this one gap between 2 teeth where food gets stuck. And normal flossing doesn't remove it. I won't know something is there until I feel an ache on my gums. I have to really dig in to remove it to the point it bleeds. Then the pain goes away almost right away.

It's not a cavity the food gets stuck in as the pain isn't in the tooth. It's almost like there's some pocket in my gums that the food can get into. And it's usually just a really small piece

Anyone else have this?

Any fillings or dental work on that side? Could be an infection underneath.

Or an infection in a root due to an untreated cavity you're not aware of.

Infection of some kind sounds like the cause, but I'm not a dentist.

Dark horse candidate: your jaw is dislocated

I yawned once really hard, fell asleep, and when I woke up, my jaw was really sore and I felt like I had an ear ache. I thought it was my wisdom teeth flaring up (never removed), but a day later, with a loud *pop*, my jaw went back into the socket and everything was fine.

All gums have pockets, less healthy gums have deeper pockets. That's why you floss! You could maybe look into something like this if the space is too big for floss to work effectively.

OP, your best bet is to go to your emergency appointment.

This is kind of what happened to me as well. Specifically there was a recess under one of my teeth and food would get stuck there.......which led to the infection. My case was because I had a bad habit of putting pressure on that tooth which dislodged it causing the recess. So don't do that!

If its what you end up needing, don't even worry because a root canal ain't bad at all. Just like a longer, more boring filling that could be split up over two sessions. I nearly fell asleep during mine.
Yeah my root canal was super easy. I was nervous and they prescibed diazepam but when it happened it was just kinda long and boring.

Yeah my dentist last told me I had healthy gums a couple of months ago. I think it's just an odd pocket in between that a small piece of food has gotten lodged into a couple of times. I'll bring it up with my dentist in a month.

I use that floss thing where you attach the disposable head to the holder.

It works well, I just need to really dig in for this situation when it does happen.

Damn, that will not be fun lol

They're not fun (especially when we're talking money), but to be honest I either have had very good dentists in multiple countries (US and Korea) or the whole "root canals hurt like hell" thing is just an urban legend. At their worst there's some mild discomfort. I find scalings to be more painful tbh.

My enamel never formed like it should, but I've had multiple root canals in my day (currently working on another 2 atm, thankfully it's in Korea when they cost $60 for the actual surgery and about $400 for the crown and not in the US where it would easily be $1000+ per tooth).

Had really bad pain in my right gum one year and a week of this cleared it up. Worth a shot.

Sounds like a deep cavity and possibly an infection. Just get yourself to that emergency dentist asap.

Yeh sounds like an infection with root canal being likely needed. Had the same issue. Pain was unbearable, only thing that worked and gave some relief was ice/ice water, swill it around effected area and enjoy some temporary pain relief

My dentist won't be able to see me until tomorrow at 10. Suffering time lol.

Going to be popping Ibuprofen every few hours.

Today is going to suck.

So how did the root canal go? I've got an issue with my tooth and I'm thinking it's going to be a root canal solution. I'm scared!
