A friend started playing campaign again recently which got me excited at the idea of going back.

My original time with L4D2 was a quick shot in the campaign and then nightly versus games that would start at various times and last for 2-6 hours depending on the night. It is some of my best gaming memories.

The two of us are veterans and are playing with 2-3 friends that just got the game in the Steam sale and this game is still fantastic. We're playing campaign on advanced with them and there a lot of deaths as they learn the map, specials and other stuff but this game is so good. It's so much fun. From the scripts of the characters, to the specials, the zombie hordes, ugh, I love it.

Valve, where is L4D3?

Btw, anyone still play versus? Once we get these two accustomed to the whole campaign I think we're going to start looking for some people to get to a group of 8 so we can start playing versus again.

It's funny, I just reinstalled the game yesterday and was having a blast.

Left 4 Dead 3 needs to happen already.

Left4Dead 1 and 2 were incredible experiences when playing with friends. It was great to see gamers from all different backgrounds and game preferences, finding immense joy in the game.

I'd eagerly preorder/buy L4D3 and would likely pick up quite a few 4packs if they were offered.

It feels like ages ago that CBOAT leaked that source 2 PowerPoint with photos of the swamp fever finale house remade.

I'm surprised L4D3 hasn't happen already since Valve could easily spam the game with hats/skins and other kinds of microtransactions.

Please give us L4D3 already Valve ;_;

I didn't like Left 4 Dead 2 as much as the original. I feel like I'm in the minority there, but the first game was better in more than one way. The campaigns/movies were better, the characters were better and so were the settings. I also enjoyed the gameplay more.

A couple of my friends didn't like it, because they couldn't scope like in Call of Duty, but I loved the first game and played it a lot. Kept it, but traded in L4D2.

I'd definitely like and play a third game.

I'm still constantly going back to L4D2 to this day, mods really help keep the game fresh. There are seemingly always new community-made maps to try out. I would love L4D3 :(

I loved the game but the community ruined it for me. Insanely toxic, griefers, and leavers. Valve pretty much abandoned the game in trying to find some sort of way to fix this aswell.

This is why we only played versus with our group and not randoms.

Getting a charge kill is one of the most satisfactory things in gaming.

I booted up L4D2 yesterday and still have great fun!
I guess Valve is too busy making shit tons of money as a online distributor than to make games again.

Are they any good modern clone/alternative?

I felt the same but still loved L4D2 in the end.

The one game I enjoyed playing with randomers more than friends on Xbox. Lots of people used a mic, and it helped weed out many toxic players like the keyboard warriors I had to suffer with when I eventually moved to PC for a time. Meeting all those crazy people with a mic, and being forced to work with them for up to two hours in a game of versus was incredible. I played it almost non-stop for years.

Warhammer doesn't come close, and it irks me when people suggest it's a worthy substitute.

God I loved playing this game. Versus mode is one of the best competitive modes I have played.

On the surface, Left 4 Dead may look shallow but there is so much complexity and strategy to controlling the Infected, finding the nuances of the maps and the best places to launch your attacks and collaborating with your teammates.

The best moments are when you are collaborating on a strategy whilst the survivors attempt to reach the end and seeing your strategy just about work. It's one of the most satisfying moments I've had in gaming. The AI Director and constant struggle to pin the survivors (or the flip side) makes it very dynamic.

Hopefully a L4D3 is released sometime down the road as a sort of reset for the community.

I hope it will be part of the Valve 3 Box(Half-Life 3,Left 4 dead 3 and Team Fortress 3). Of all the games out that I want another it has to be L4D.

We need L4D3. Just look at Vermintide 2 - it's sold over 1 million copies already, before hitting consoles. People want games like that and we basically just have Vermintide and old L4D games. Killing Floor is a bit different IMO so it's not scratching that mission-based itch.

Like, I bet it would be best selling game of the year if it came out. Any year.

Wasn't fond of L4D2. Thought the settings and levels were just really dull and uninspiring. Just wasn't the same thrill ride as before. It felt off to me, I'm not sure why. Loved the first one so much.

Perhaps the most toxic community I've ever had the displeasure of playing with. Who knew a zombie game could get people so riled up.

I know why it occurred, but can I say that the outrage for L4D2 back in the day was one prime example of silly internet outrage? I understand some points, but I think L4D2 did enough to justify being a new game.

Also the modding scene for this game was amazing. I can recommend some pretty downloadable custom campaigns for anyone here who might be interested, there's some really good original ones but just for passive mention, there's complete recreations of Silent Hill 1, Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2 (A & B scenarios), Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil Outbreak File 1, Golden-Eye, and Crash Bandicoot 1 available in L4D2 which all are pretty fun, and some custom campaigns are pretty amazing to play with friends (only play custom campaigns with other players, some of maps the AI get really confused on).

Honestly it might be the newness of it or the framing of it, since you can literally play L4D1 in L4D2, IE turn off new infected/items, play the L4D1 campaigns with L4D1 survivors, etc.

Perhaps the most toxic community I've ever had the displeasure of playing with. Who knew a zombie game could get people so riled up.

That's unfortunate to hear, I'll trust on this since I only play multiplayer games with a certain group of friends rather than randoms online.

It's just Valve not being focused on making games I guess.

L4D3 seems like it would be perfect in today's online service game crazy. Lot's of potential for cosmetic customization MTs etc.

I prefer the first game, pre-patch.

L4D2 introduced too many annoyances, the maps weren't fun and the setting was trash.
