I have a CP question,
How come when you put Pokemon in a gym their CP is lowered?

Pokémon have a motivation, which decays. The longer they are in the gym, the lower it becomes. There is a certain decay rate, with higher CP Pokémon decaying faster.
At full motivation, a Pokémon needs to be defeated three times to be outed. At the lowest motivation, only once.

I've seen that happen, what I'm referring to is that when I place my 2800 cp Snorlax in a gym it automatically gets bumped down to 2400 CP. Pulling numbers out of my ass but it's along those lines.

Oh, I tried that!

So, when they say "Community Day" they actually mean "Community Hour"? Because I went walking 1pm - 2pm, then 3pm to 4.

I don't recall any of their correspondence mentioning set hours :/
Yes, it's a 3 hour window that varies depending on your location.

Times:
  • Europe, Middle East, Africa, India: 10am to 1pm UK (BST), 11am to 2pm CET
  • North America, South America and Greenland: 11am to 2pm PST, 2pm to 5pm EST
  • Asia Pacific: 12pm to 3pm JST

For some reason every pokemon loses a little CP automatically when being put into the gym. I guess it's to encourage you to give it a berry right after adding to a gym. It probably was meant as a smart in game way to teach people about the gym system/the need to feed berries maybe, but that's what's going on and it happens for every pokemon. If you give it something it'll go back up to full health.

199 Squirtle.... of which

  • 57 with goggles
  • 8 were shiny
  • 2 of those were shiny goggles

Best IV were 2 x 96 (both goggles) but I already had 100iv Blastoise so not too bothered.

All in all a good day, only 100K from Level 40 now thanks to 13 caught Arty and 5 that ran yesterday.... no shiny there sadly.

Need to get back into sending and opening gifts, these last two days been quite full of Pogo and item/mon managment while in a heatwave here in London. Hope you all had a blast this weekend.

Interesting. I never tried to give them a berry right away so that could be. I see a gym down the street right now with 5/6 spots so I'm gonna go get in there and try it. 2813 CP Snorlax inbound.

Yup that was exactly it. Bumped him down to about 2500 and 1 berry fed it's back up to max. Case closed .

Where are you located? Did you have the correct time?

Edit: the time are pretty much in every notification and tweet.

This page will give you your local time

Ah. I was just going by what they said in the in-app message (talking about a community day and all). I must've overlooked the whole three-hour thing.

That Articuno thing was only a few hours long, too. Sucks if you work weekends or night shifts, ey?

About to pack my drinks and a snack and get ready to be in position to snag some Squirtle! Goals are modest

- at least one shiny
- at least one glasses
- enough candy to get a Blastoise with the new move

I think I have about 60 candy already from the water event last month. I don't really want to be out the entire time today.

The research tasks all seem to be "Catch 5 Squirtle". Easy enough.

They all should be and if the reward is s shiny squirtle then it's shiny for everyone who gets that quest and completes it

I like the idea it makes sure people have a chance of a shiny - as it's an encounter it's level 15 and has decent (ish) iv's

Yeah, I know people in the last community day who were quite sad they didn't manage to catch a shiny Larvitar despite catching over a 100. Glad Niantic is listening to fans.

Definitely a busy day.

I had to trash most of the sunglass-squirts for space reasons, but it was fun.

So many raids, catches, quests, hatches (including 3x Bagon in a row).

it's too hot for these events, phew.

Good day so far though, not sure how many Squirtles I've captured, but I've got four non glasses shinies and one glasses shiny. Plus a few other rare Pokemon like Chansey and Electabuzz.

Got a decent amount of Squirtle although none are as good as the one I had previously

3 shinies (two sunglasses, one regular)

Best one today was a 91% sunglasses one that I turned into Blastoise.

Only one shiny but happy I found one! I'll probably evolve my sunglasses Squirtle at some point. Kind of disappointed they aren't wearing the original glasses.

Hopefully next months Community Day is an actual useful mon. Or at least one that has a cool shiny variant. Not much motivation to continue playing today after getting a few shiny Squirtle just because Blastoise is terribad and irrelevant.

It seems like they're alternating between useful Monday (other than mareep) and starters

Yeah, just checked Reddit and there's a prediction that Ralts is next up which would be very nice.

God that would be great! Useful across two gens with two typings with lots of candy needed and I haven't seen or hatched one since March maybe.

Seriously, outside of regionals and legendaries the ralts evos are the only things I have left to get.

Yeah Ralts would be awesome, I'm done with Hoenn dex for now and the only Gen 4 evo for which I don't have candy yet is Ralts and it's a looooong grind at 5 km per candies and awful spawns in the area (haven't seen Ralts in months... I think the last one I came across in the wild was during Hoenn event in February).

Pretty decent community day.
The Good: 5 regular shinies, 7 sunglasses. Hatched an Alolan Volpix, 2 Alolan Grimer, and a Chimecho, all of which were new to me. Plus 2 Beldum and a Bagon. Managed to get several hundred thousand exp.
The bad: Probably the worst technical issues I have had on a community day. If you had a PoGo Plus, it crashed half the time you collected a quest reward, and then took up to 10 minutes to get the damn thing reconnected. I probably spent a good half hour of the two and a half hours I played trying to reconnect it. Also ran out of Pokeballs, because the Pokemon Go Plus still doesn't have an option to use better balls almost two years in.

Also, I assume Ralts being next will be the first bad prediction. I think they'll save that for when Gallade comes out. I think we'll also probably get an Eevee community day towards the end of the year, to commemorate Let's Go being out plus to take advantage of Eevee having most of its evolutions once Gen 4 is out.

Was an excellent community day. Got 19 shinies, did about 40 research quests, and gained a ton of experience. The only bad thing is that my ultra ball stash was completely decimated.

the problem I had was since you can only get one research quest per stop per day, I ran out of stops in the first park I was in. Had to go to another park to continue getting those quests/Squirtles with glasses.

10 Shinies, 6 Sun Glasses Shinies.

Really happy with how Community Day turned out for me. Haven't had this much luck since the first one, where I got 11 Shiny Pikachu.

By the way, fuck the Summer. Not fun walking around for 3 hours in 100 degree Weather. My iPhone X also overheats and hardly runs the game when it's exposed in the sun for more than 5 minutes. Gotta walk around the shade and stand beside a wall/tree the whole time. Not fun.

After a while my wife and I had quests start to bug. We went to a mall that has like, 30 stops in it and there were ones I knew I hadn't gotten quests from (it's a giant circle so it was the back end) that just didn't give quests out.

First time doing this Community Day thing and it was a blast! Haven't seen so many people out here playing Pokemon Go since it launched. Was a great, great time. Think I ended up with something around 6 Shiny Sunglasses, at least 10 normal Shiny, and about a dozen more normal Sunglasses. Only part that sucked is a good group of us battled a Regice that popped up and I was unfortunately unable to catch it....not quite strong enough yet to take one down with less people.

Can't wait for the next one though!

110% agree. Walking around for 3 hours is fine but walking around for 3 hours when it's over 100? Surprised my phone didn't overheat at a couple points though I did get a lot of freezes/slowdowns.
