Okay, so it's like Yuyushiki if Yuyushiki had NO CHILL WHATSOEVER.

Like, we're not talking just an ordinary absence of chill. We're talking negative chill. There is so little chill here, I think the show is constantly on the verge of spontaneously combusting.

And then it reaches the ED and it does spontaneously combust. Into puppets. Somehow.

So yeah.

Not exactly what I was expecting from the OP.

I mean... maybe the sport itself or the excitement of the animators to draw the characters in bikinis makes it more "fun", but the story itself is super high strung and angsty characters shooting off long stares, and nearly yelling at each other at times. You get flatly delivered creed of aces not existing, a PTSD-esque relationship with beach volleyball, and a dead parent (?) tossed in.
Everything has that fun vibe when you compare it to Hanebado.
Also, Haruka's natural cheerfulness lightens all the 'heavy' stuff.

Really enjoyed this episode. The last match was great. Animation was great again as well. Episode had some much needed focus on Nagisa. Episode also toned down the melodrama a bit or atleast added some context.

Nice new OT.

I'm not watching Planet With.

After FRANXX my faith in the mecha genre is basically gone now outside of Super Robot Wars.

Wait there are going to be two new FLCLs ? Double the pain huh.

Seven Deadly Sins: The Revival of Ten Commandments 24 END

I swear, after S2 the Dreyfus&Hendrikson plot from S1 doesn't make a lick of sense and not even in, it's shonen who cares way, it plainly doesn't match with the subsequent backstory and reveals.

Whimper of an ending really, Fraudrin doing a 180 was just a tired old talk/feelings no jutsu. Ten Commandments were generally fun at the beginning but after pumping them so much the way loads of them went out is just so disappointing and an insult to established, literal power levels. I'm also not sure what Zeldris smiles so smug about when he got completely btfo and that by accident too. Escanor was fun, so was Galand and episode 19 was genuinely great but that's about it.

Planet With 01

The curveball was a nice to spice things though I'm doubting whether it will be enough or even amount to much in the long run. + for wackiness but not really impressed by anything else.

God, this caught me by surprise. What a great episode, laughed throughout it all. Just completely absurd.

I honestly can't stress how personally insulted I feel about FRANXX.

I asked for a good mecha show and that anime took everything I like about mecha anime and slapped me in the face with it.

The fact that it had the nerve to even think about pulling a Gunbuster ending while thinking it can be Gurren Lagan is just...ugh.

The fact that Trigger and A1 basically said "screw it" and dumped the animation for most of the second half of the show to Cloverworks is probably the most insulting part of it all. It just goes to show how little they actually cared about making anything good, like deadbeat parents abusing their child before dumping it in a horrible foster home.

Not too sure how I feel about this one. On the one hand, it's interesting seeing a confrontation with a youkai not resort to shounen battles, instead being left to the guest character's morality being tested in order to resolve the crisis they're in. As such, this felt much closer to the tone of something like Mushishi, where the guest protagonist's moral failings are put on display and then scrutinized as a very simple but damming choice is presented to them. However, this is all muddied a bit by the ending, which is vague, somewhat creepy, and left open to all kinds of interpretation. Whether or not you
see her transformation as a reflection of her inner beauty made manifest by her choice to take back her old face or that she succumbed to her desire to live a glamorous life and is now a youkai
is for the viewer to decide, but in the end it still feels unsettling in a way no episode has since the one that featured the train to hell. That final scene's weird mixed messaging makes me unsure what the goal of this episode was, but this is a complicated issue that doesn't have an easy answer. That said, I think arriving at that final scene could've been set up better throughout the episode.

Hanebado! 2
A nice compliment to the first episode, with a goal of focusing on Nagisa enough to get her out of her slump. And while her transformation from abusive, self-absorbed captain to responsible teammate was a bit too quick for my tastes (as was everyone shrugging off her months of being an asshole), I do at least appreciate that the show isn't going to drag that out any further and instead focus on bringing this broken team into shape in time for whatever competitions are ahead. There were a number of neat shots I noticed throughout the episode that I wouldn't have expected, including several long, single-shot takes that looked really nice and did a great job conveying some very simple, unspoken information. Combined with the still excellent badminton animation in both of Nagisa's matches, and the show continues to look good where it counts, even if the divide between those scenes and the more slice-of-life stuff is fairly wide (but not drastic). I'm curious about the tone the show will take now that some of the heaviness has lifted, though there's likely to still be plenty of drama here and there, especially with the new narcissist likely to be joining the team shortly if the end of the episode is any indication. Also, I wanted to note, the ED is very nice looking, one of the better ones this season (even if it is mostly panning stills, the art style is gorgeous).

I'll wait until after many episodes have gone by and there's a general consensus before I watch it.
That's fair. I can say that Planet With is definitely not going to be a standard mecha show by any definition, since it's already one Mikazumi's weirdest works, and Mikazumi's works tend to be weird (I think all three of his previous major works heavily factored in ideas of non-linear spacetime with some degree of parallel worlds too, especially Spirit Circle which was straight up built on the concept, and that's just one example of the type of ideas he likes to deal with)

The show took not one, but TWO of my favorite mecha shows and soulessly tried to impersonate both while standing atop a pedestal.

How could I not feel insulted?
The show owes you nothing, it knows nothing about you. You may choose to watch what in the end was a very middling production. You may choose not to watch it based on the rather negative reception.
Feeling insulted by a media production sounds like some kind of weird projecting.
I could understand regretting wasting your time.

Cloverworks is A1. To be precise, it is a rebranding of the A1 substudio that was in charge of Franxx from the beginning.

Man this is weird, people said it's weird and it is. Usually don't watch many mech shows outside of some Gundam series but I'm interested in this at least and it's mech cats.

Oh my lord, this came out of nowhere and it's absolutely my kind of humour - the face game is ABSOLUTELY on point and the VA is fantastic. Probably the most consistently funny show I've seen in quite a while, I just hope it can keep it up!

This is right up my alley. Apart from what others have already said I like the use of music and anything that has harpsichords in it is a plus for me.

Hugtto Precure 23

I can't believe I'm saying this for Precure, but slow down a little bit will you? Daigan was a hilarious anti-climax. Didn't even know what to do and gone before his first fight. Mystery man was the real leader after all. Which means Pupple was sleeping with the boss. And now Gelos is as well. If most of the villains know who Kurai is, why the misdirection? Trauma seems like a fun villain, and setup for yet another bad one. Meanwhile we get a bit more of Hana's past. Something bad happened to her that's for sure. Hope that gets elaborated on. Now that Lulu and Emiru's time in the spotlight is up it's starting to feel like the Hana and Homare show. Poor Saaya. New op edit is lazy, but at least new ed is good.

Thankfully a much more restrained take on the drama so a better episode. Love the coach's insight and the general character animation while playing badminton. ep was cruising along well until twintails showed up to remind everyone it's anime

Last Period 2

even an adaptation of a mobage i've never heard of is dunking on goro miyazaki now

This show put the absolute biggest smile on my face. Out of all the episode 1s so far, this was the best. Such a fun and well executed idea. Animation was decent too.

The Master of Ragnarok and it's just a fucking shitty wish fulfillment isekai don't watch it 1

Why did I even attempt to watch this? Absolute gutter trash. Some hardened female warrior asking for a head pat as a reward from our isekai protagonist, followed by a scene where he forces a captured enemy leader to become his little sister, and then gets smothered by another girls boobs pretty much explains what this show is.

Hanebado - 2

Better, but not good. I'm in particularly miffed about the coach feeling bland with this mode switching between pervert/clearly overstepping his bounds and then obviously the 'actually skilled and great' coach. Why create an actual personality when you can shove the tiring pervert trope in there, which will even lead to comedy; that is, out of place feeling comedy after establishing the way dramatic tone. Ayano making a bunch of pouty faces downplayed her strong apprehension of committing herself to Badminton.

Animation was mostly nice ths episode but there seemed to be a few iffy walk motions.

I'll just watch part of the show via Sakugabooru.

Adding some more context to what HosannaExcelsis already mentioned about this; the timing for the re-branding (as it happened on April, 1) was obviously motivated by the beginning of the Japanese fiscal year, independently of the circumstances surrounding any of the studio's projects in development at that specific time:

Uh, no my friend, they didn't. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Cloverworks is A-1 Koenji which was animating the series since the beginning with Trigger. They just had a change of name during the period, A-1 didn't dump it on them, they were there since the beginning but still named A-1. They animated ep 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. A-1 Pictures, the Asagaya branch, main one and now the only A-1 animated the episode 18 for the first time on the series and Trigger animated ep 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14. Trigger stopped to animate the series on ep 14 but the staff in other parts of the anime still worked on there just like the freelancers and creative team that worked there since the beginning.

Nice new OT.

I'm not watching Planet With.

After FRANXX my faith in the mecha genre is basically gone now outside of Super Robot Wars.

Thats like if someone watched seed destiny in 2005 and said "meh, mecha is cursed, i am not gonna watch gurren laggan"

Also: people excited for "Planet With" not because it is even mecha, thats not gonne be the focus of it as demonstrated by the first episode , it's because the creator behind it have a stellar track record in manga world and created some of the best manga there is with good and fun stories and entertaining characters, things that the anime already seems to be doing right so far

I honestly can't stress how personally insulted I feel about FRANXX.

Funny that....cause cloverworks and A-1 are one and the same -rebranding a branch of A-1 -, also the quality of animation didn't even change, there is still some steller animation cuts in the latest episodes, Trigger episodes actually are of the weaker quality, funnily enough, but it is not even their show, its mainly A-1/now cloverworks show

Eh the new ending isn't nearly as good as the first one.

I'm surprised by how much I like the villains in this. This episode I was more excited for what they were gonna do than our heroines. Puppet guy looks like fun.
