This stupid publicity stunt makes me dislike him intensely, he was never going to build a working kid sized submarine that fits through narrow caves in time for it to be of any use and he knew that. The only purpose of those tweets was to make himself look good not to help those trapped in the cave.

It uses a piece of the SpaceX rocket. Fabrication takes 8 hours. Details are in his tweets.

Your theories are stupid.

Some of you motherfuckers are sad as hell.

Hell, fucking Resetera as a whole is one of the most cynical, depressing sites I have ever read. Keep being keyboard warriors guys, you're so fucking woke omg.

Here's hoping those kids and the coach manage to get back safely home, because I suppose that's (still) the most important topic.

A piece of a SpaceX rocket (which was not designed to navigate narrow spaces under water) does not make a working submarine, certainly not one that you stuff a kid in without extensive testing

What does the word "fabricate" mean to you, Pluto?

Extensive testing. Lol. Maybe you can explain to the rescuers how the children also need extensive training. With your help they can be extensively drowned.

Elon is a genius, no doubt, and if anyone could get a submarine made in 8 hours, it's him. He has some great ideas and genuinely wants to advance technology.

But he's a knobhead a lot of the time, with no idea how to deal with people.

But... pick your battles. Spend that extra hate on Trump and GOP instead of someone who's at least attempting some good in today's world.

God this is a depressing thread. And not for the reasons that it should be.

Regardless of what I think of Musk, it's nice to see ideas being put out there for some alternative solution if such a thing becomes necessary. Hopefully the rescue attempt goes well and the whole nightmare can just end then and there.

You mean the tweet where he basically described a box with handles?

A) That's not a submarine
B) Good luck getting those kids into a tight extremely restricting space without them panicking
If anything its one of the best options they have. Instead of shitting on ideas why dont you be a little more optimistic.

People can shit on Musk all they like, and sure he says cringey stuff at times, but at least he's trying.
thats what i was thinking reading this. For what its worth despite all the nonsense he may say (and do) he actually does aim to help quite often when situations arrise. It could be is heart is in the right place or publicity or whatever, but he still acts on helping others.

fuck, ERA. The cynicism is blinding this morning. Too many mornings frankly. This has become a site I avoid more every day because of it.

Anyways the Thai people have a version of Musk's nylon tube that looks like it might be a backup. There seems to have been discussions based on monsoon timetable between SpaceX and the Thai gov't.

It's in this Guardian live updates link: https://www.theguardian.com/world/l...vers-trapped-boys-live?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I don't get why is this a separate thread to the other one. The rescue operation is already underway, why focus on something not being used when people are risking their lives right now.

If this works great. We need more wealthy people to be in tune and use their forces for good like this

literally where they have to go through in order to get out....
Except in the wider passages of the cave they can actually move a bit and they'll be attached to a diver which allows for some human contact. Of course it's still scary but it's not lying in what could easily feel like a coffin.

What ticks me off is how obviously self serving the tweets are, if he wanted to help he could just help, he doesn't have to announce it to the world in a series of tweets while it's a work in progress.

People like to be optimistic but let's be honest here, there's a good chance some of them aren't going to make it oit of that cave alive, that's a horrible situation and it pisses me off if a billionaire uses this for self promotion, if you like that he's trying to find a solution fine but don't pretend the purpose of those tweets is to help the kids.

a - "That guy sucks and his idea is stupid!"

b - "Uhh, relax. He's trying to help and the idea is fine."

a - "OMG SO WE DON'T WANT TO SUCK HIS DICK SUE US"

You're children.
Basically lol

edit: hadn't seen the warning, my bad. I'll eat the l on any consequences. Hopefully we can see some tests on it to see if it could be useful in the future at least

Because people can't help themselves not turning the discussion into a fucking my team/their team bullshit. It's all about them. How can they insert their pathetic self centered ass into the discussion.
The main thread should remain focused on the only thing that matters: the kids and everyone else involved staying save. Let the cheerleaders have their worthless spat in here.

Some of you should seriously take a long look at your priorities.

Because Musk has been boy who cried wolf too much. Nobody believes him because the track record of his statements.
You mean like when he built the world's largest battery to relieve Australia's power problems? I'm not saying that the guy is a saint and there are obviously a lot of constraints, notably time, but the hate the man gets for trying is amazing.

This thread is not producing quality discussion and has digressed into debating how amazing / not amazing Elon Musk is. There is already an existing thread discussing the rescue operations that are currently underway without Elon Musk or his proposed plans. If Elon Musk or his proposed plans impact the actual rescue efforts down the line, it can be discussed in the existing thread about the rescue efforts.
Until that time, please join the discussions there. Thank you.
