Dragon Marked for Death releasing this Winter

Dragon-MFD-Date_07-05-18.jpg

I was expecting this when Gal Gun 2 and Bloodstained released so close each other. Meanwhile, give us a new trailer Inti Creates. :P

Any impressions for Ultra Space Battle Brawl? It's not the kind of game that garners a lot of attention and it will probably drown in the deluge of eshop releases, but it looks like a fun take on Pong.

I haven't seen this posted, but Mango Protocol, the developers of 'Agatha Knife', gave the number of copies sold in a recent AMA.

This is one of the most accurate comparisons to see how small indie games that are not as popular as the big ones are performing in Switch.

Steam (Since April 2017): around 2.5K
Xbox One
(Since April 2018): around 1.5K
Switch
(Since April 2018): around 4.4K

So basically, the Switch version of the game doubled in a month the total sales of the Steam version, that was available in the market for an entire year.

This story is pretty interesting for a number of reasons:

- 'Agatha Knife' is a point'n click adventure game, that is a genre whose audience has been traditionally on PC.

- 'Agatha Knife' is the sequel to 'MechaNika', that is available in Steam but not in Switch. So Mango Protocol already had an existing audience in PC, with a loyal fanbase. While 'MechaNika' wasn't a big seller, it's a very beloved title with a well stablished fan base.

- While the numbers of Xbox One are very low taking into account that it was released the same day that the Switch version, this talks of how important is for small developers to release their games in a high number of stores. In the big scheme of things, these 1.5K copies sold by the Xbox version in a single month, can make the difference in profitability for a small studio doing a niche game in a niche genre.

I think that with stories like this, it's much more easy to draw a map of the current indie scene and its sales. Games like 'Intro the Breach' and 'Cultist Simulator' will always reach high numbers in Steam, and games like 'Hollow Knight' or 'Stardew Valley' are guaranteed successes in Switch.

So it's pretty interesting to read about a game whose only impact was amongst the public, largely ignored by the critic, and that wasn't featured by Nintendo in their marketing or highlighted in the front page of the Steam store because of the low sales.

I'm not into Sanrio, but I might as well get it to keep me busy while waiting on future Picross S titles on the Switch considering I'm sure they'll make a ton of them like they did the 3DS.

I don't like Sanrio much either but I'll play anything related to Picross, even if the puzzles were of sex organs.

Don't die Mr robot is %85 off on us eshop. Wasn't it released last month? It's a huge discount. Guess I'll buy it for short sessions of arcade fun.

A REALLY good game! It looks like a terrible Windows clip art game, but it's fun and challenging! Great game, well worth the price!

Grabbed some Switch footage of Pato Box 'Arcade Mode' and about to do a bit of Story Mode.

How is it? I pre-ordered for the discount. I love Punchout Wii, I hope this is as good!

So far, so good. I have Story Mode footage uploading now, so that'll give you a better idea of how the game progresses and such. It isn't like Punchout where you just move battle to battle. You actually do some exploration and there is a story to be told beyond a simple 'become champ!' type of thing. The core mechanics are like that of Punchout -- timing, figuring out the fighter and how to counter/dodge their moves. There are tells -- be it from sound or movements.

Do you have to unlock the arcade mode as you progress in story mode? Or can I just jump in arcade mode and play it that way?

Interesting. Makes me wonder how other adventures sell on Switch. Besides Thimbleweed Park which obviously sold a bunch as it was in top 15 for at least a couple of weeks after release (curiously enough also the adventure I like the least out of those I've bought for the Switch)
The player base on Switch is obviously way smaller than on Steam, but these games have at least some visibility in the eShop and less competition still.

I love the genre and have been buying most of the releases on Switch. I'm about to begin The Journey Down Chapter three and went for the preorder discount on The Wardrobe (releases tomorrow).

What are the best settings to play Deemo at?

Better / easier to play with a controller or touch screen? Should I customize any of the BGM, speed, or keys for the songs? Right now everything is at default.

Nintendo just put up a "7 Games with Wondrous Water" news item in the Switch news section. It's just like a thread I could imagine being made here. Everyone is fascinated by video game water it seems.

Can you guys help me remember what was wrong with ACA Punch-Out!! ?
Lag? Shitty pixel scaling? No TATE in portable mode with joycons attached I imagine since that was introduced with ACA DK, right?

Anyway, EXPRESS RAIDER?!
With every release I'm more and more pissed that the FTigers' releases don't have online leaderboards :(
Loved it as a kid back in the day....

Fossil hunters dropped out of nowhere and look a like a fun puzzle game... despite he discount yooka is still too pricey, especially when other platforms got halfway off long before this point

I've honestly entered full ignore mode with Dragon Marked For Death until we have an actual release date, same as I did with Hollow Knight.

Wow that's really impressive, this is precisely the kind of game I didn't expect to perform particularly well on Switch at all and yet, it's still done much better than on Steam after so long, cool. I plan on getting it myself very soon too, it looks pretty charming.

I guess the Switch really is the mecca for quality indies, that's great.

I'm a shallow person and generally judge games by their look, and this one looks completely throwaway. But with all the praise and for only $1.30 I figured why not... turns out Don't Die Mr. Robot is pretty neat. The objective based remix mode is addicting. This will fit in nicely with Just Shapes & Beats and GEM as good games to zone out to.

Hmm, I also grabbed Toki Tori 2 during the Steam sale after seeing praise here earlier this year. I originally skipped that one too because of the generic style, but two hours in and I'm enjoying the game. Maybe I'm wrong to judge a game based on its looks? Nah.

Well after reading all of yours thoughts on the game I bought the Don't Die Mr. Robot! . It actually cost 0.14 because of credits so not much of a loss even if I don't like it.

I shouldn't be doing this but after reading the shitty D pad doesn't affect Pocket Rumble, I'm impulse buying it ASAP.

Honestly I consider myself pretty tolerant with visuals, but some games are just too much and Mr. Robot is one of them... It sucks because I've read awesome stuff about it, but it's too ugly.

Actually I'm torn about 20XX too, it sounds like a dream game, but that look...

Edit: Oh damn, it's just $1.34 right now. I might bite after all lol.

Mr Robot DX is very tempting at the current price. Anyone know if there's still a discount for Kid Tripp/Miles & Kilo if you already own one of the two games?

On one hand I can get Yooka-Laylee way cheaper on PS4. On the other, I'll play it way more on switch.

I didn't realize Okami HD is only 20 bucks. That's an easy purchase for me. Day 1 for a classic Zelda-esque game.

bought it cos it looks fun and its kind of fun but that final boss so cheap and frustrating x( . i think its okay but the price a little too steep i think, unless they will add another feature such as online play.

'Dont' Die Mr. Robot DX' looks ugly in the screens, but it's a marvelous delight on movement, thanks to the use of lights and shaders. Like many games inspired in an 80s' Atari era of neon lights, it's all about the use effects to create a psychedelic immersion in the player.

Also, I think that in arcade games, the most important thing by a large difference is the sound design. And they absolutely nail the sound design in this game, at a Namco level of mastery.

It's my GOTY 2018, and the spiritual successor to 'Every Extend Extra' with a much more complex scoring system.

Its arcade mode is pure perfection, and it also includes tens of hours in its single player campaign for those that are not score chasers.

It's weird to try to recommend what is considered in the retro-arcade scene as the peak this generation, and at a price of 1 dollar, which is criminal. Infinite State Games deserve the full price for what I consider amongst the 10 best arcade games released in the last decade.

Add me to the list of people strongly recommending 'Dont' Die Mr. Robot DX'.

It might not look like it but it's a very well designed, smart and addictive game. The challenges mode is amazing in the way with just a few tweaks every single challenge is like a different gameplay on its own. The music is great, from electro to indie rock.

With Splasher, I think it's one of the most underrated eShop games that I've played.

Can someone explain how often EShop sales are refreshed? Sony has now in most cases a 2 week timeline but I have no idea with Nintendo.

You need to play more games.

I'm sure that you are making this commentary after having played every significative single screen arcade game with a focus in its score attack mode in the last years, from 'Heiankyo Alien 3671' to 'Forget-Me-Not<R'.

So with your great knowledge of video games, I will love to read your recommendations. I'm sure that you will put on my radar a lot of obscure arcade gems that I haven't played yet.

I will stop visiting Itch.io each day to play the featured games, buying every game selected in festivals like the Fantastic Arcade and following jams.

From this day, my only criteria for playing and buying video games will be your recommendations. Specially, after reading your elaborated arguments in messages like this.

I played an earlier build at an event. It's really fun with two people and I think the single player mode will be serviceable.

Playing for Platinum in the remix mode is almost like a puzzle game. There seems to always be a "best" (and very different) approach to each level.

AFAIK, the publisher sets the sale dates and prices on the eShop. Don't know if there is a limit to how many sales a game can have.
