I heard that Vandoorne's contract said that McLaren had to put him in a car or else could could be free to drive for another team (and there were teams looking at him by that time). That's why they had to get rid of Jenson, a decision they must regret greatly.

Yeah right, that's why he came back for Monaco.

Oh right, and how did that go for him exactly?

Was never a huge fan of Button, but it was a sad ending to his F1 career, stuck at McLaren, fighting for scraps. He seems fairly happy in Super GT over in Japan, now he has a competitive, race winning car under him.

Perez and Magnussen also struggled at McLaren. Perez has definetely shown that he belongs in the upper half of the grid and Magnussen is starting to show that as well. It would be a shame if Vandoorne was entirely kicked out of F1 and never given a proper chance to show what he can do.

Looks like that fraud Peter P is next in line for the McLaren chopping block:

Journalist Carlos Miquel had an off the record interview with Boullier (in previous race) and he told him the following: I'm tired of being the scapegoat, I didn't design the car, I put these people (Promodrou, Goss) in charge of the car design because that's what Dennis wanted.

During 3 years they told me the engine was no good and this year they made a crap chassis.

Goss and Peter P's lies cost McLaren works status and half-a-billion dollars - lol

Brown says the current car has less downforce than last year's and it will take 2 - 10 years to get McLaren back fighting at the front.

This off the record stuff wouldn't even be allowed to hit the publication page.

Very interesting dev diary for the new F1 game. They're adding dialogue options to choose from while talking to the press and they'll influence how the guys from your team and other teams perceive you. They've also shown a more complex mechanism for negotiating contracts with other teams during the season. All looks nice, but I hope that we will find "bwoah I don't know" among the available answers. :)

Awesome. I'll be happy with just a bwoah.

That all sounds pretty good. The interview mechanics could easily be very shallow but they seem to be taking steps to make it more involved.

Didn't they do that in 2010 or 2011 or something?

Anyway, as long as they have "bwoah" and "I was taking a shit", I'll be happy.

Yeah, now that you mention it and I remember something like that in one of the earliest Codemasters games, but it was a completely pointless feature back then. I hope it won't be too simplistic in the new game.

I think your choices about how you said your team performed allegedly impacted development back then? Yeah, I barely remember the 2010-11 games since they were a bore. 2012 was the lively one with KERS and free DRS use in practice/qualifying.

Dear god they're really going through the first two turns with DRS open.

From what little I've played of 2010, the interviews were rather forgettable. I enjoyed managing KERS and DRS in 2012, it felt like the sensible F1 version of nitro boost or something.
Energy deployment is back on the menu for 2018 and these revamped interviews might be a nice novelty but considering I've played the last two games for multiple seasons, I'm not sure if answering interview questions is going to be all that fun after 50+ hours.

That first DRS zone sounds suicidal. What an odd choice of a third zone, though. Even if you could somehow get away with it in qualifying, there's absolutely no way you could have it open while trailing a car during the race so I'm not sure how it helps overtaking. I'll be surprised if we go through the entire weekend without someone having a major incident trying this. Should have run it down the old pit straight instead. If you're going to allow it here, you might as well un-ban DRS for 130R and the Monaco tunnel. Whatever. If it were up to me I'd go back to totally free use in qualifying.

Papa Stroll looking at McLaren and Force India for next season as he's had enough of the Williams leadership.

I'd love to see Stroll in the McLaren.

Yes, that's exactly what McLaren needs, even more leadership without a clue and a driver who can only complain as a form of communication with the team.

What McLaren Racing need is cash with the Bahrainis not willing or unable to put up a substantial budget for next season - I read some of their shareholders are currently under British government investigation.

Brown's failed to pull in the big money sponsors, his inability has forced them to sell off a collection of their classic racing cars in desperate need of raising millions. Papa Stroll with his tens of millions could be McLaren's savior.

Either way it's looking like Perez or Vandoorne are done for.

If legacy title winning teams like McLaren and Williams can get into a fucked up financial state like this, I'm not sure how we'll ever get new teams if these go under.

Honestly I just hope they make multiplayer more stable (dedicated servers!) and have more anti-griefing measures for 2018. I've pretty much completely switched from only playing career to exclusively playing multiplayer at this point.

Random thought: If the average quali gap between Massa and Stroll was over 6 tenths (2017) and the average gap between Massa and Alonso was 3 tenths (2012, first result in google), that means this year's Williams might have a good second of quali pace in it (especially with experienced driver feedback).
That would put them right there for the fight towards best of the rest.

I just had this absurd idea of an online championship where you still get the career mode option of talking shit about other (human!) drivers to the press.

As a connoisseur of coincidences, here's all the drivers who are in or were rumored for a seat at the red team right next to each other under a red flag.

With immediate effect Van Amersfoort Racing and German racing driver Sophia Flörsch team up for the remaining of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship season and the 65th Macau Grand Prix. Sophia, ambassador of Susie Wolff's non-profit organization Dare to be Different, will already be behind the wheel of the third VAR Dallara Mercedes-Benz at Zandvoort next weekend.

Sophia Flörsch (17) steps up into Formula 3 after two seasons in Formula 4, in which she did not only become the first female driver to secure championship points, but finished on the podium multiple times with a fastest lap as well. A unique achievement!
She's finally got her F3 seat.

Ferrari (well, the german part of their driver lineup) ahead on a friday? Get Gio in that simulator and Mercedes might actually have to try a little tomorrow.
