Pocket Rumble for the Nintendo Switch is officially out! After months of waiting with just the Steam Early Access version, Cardboard Robot Games has finally finished the version available today, July 5 2018 on the Nintendo Switch eshop.

Official Release Trailer

From the Nintendo website:
"Pocket Rumble retains all the gameplay elements that make traditional Street Fighter-style fighters great, but reduces the level of execution and memorization necessary to the bare minimum. That way experienced players can learn the game fast and be able to focus on deeper elements of strategy and mindgames, new players can learn the ins and outs of fighting games without being overwhelmed, and everyone can get their skills to a competitive level without too much grinding alone in training mode."

It features 8 characters with unique fighting styles and a tight GGPO Netcode infrastructure for online play. Future updates to the Switch version are outlined in a developer update here:

What do you think Era? Does anyone know of any burgeoning FGC for this game? Are you gonna pick it up due to it's accessibility? I'll certainly be online this weekend!

Definitely picking this up tomorrow. Finally got one of those custom modded D-Pad joycons, so playing this might actually be fun instead of painful.

I've just gotta say, GameXplain's video of it is probably one of the worst demonstrations of a fighting game that I have ever seen.

Played this through lunch today and we all had a lot of fun with it. Games' got style and heart.

BUT: It makes me really want one of those 8bit SNES controllers that have proper d-pads; you don't get much in the way of accuracy with the Joycons.

It's pretty cool. it looks great, the characters are cool.

But man, it's painful using joycons to play it. The move sets should've been changed, because trying to get diagonals for the special moves is never going to work well on a joy con.

Bought already (eu). Online is rock solid and puts Digital Eclipse to shame (sorry guys, I know you're working on a patch and I'm eagerly awaiting it).

Is this released at noon EST? Nintendo has such screwed up release times.
In NA is always 9AM PST/12 PM PST. Preloaded games are always midnight unless noted otherwise. So it is a quite specific release times, not screwed up ...like some other that updates Tuesday at any time. :p

On-topic, grabbing this in a few minutes. Been waiting years to play this.

Yes. Very short time windows for links but they are there.

BnBs typically can range from a third of you healthbar to half of it.

Odd that this game's main deal seems to be accessibility, yet it apparently had small window frame links. I'm guessing smaller than SFV? That's gonna separate the playing field real quick.

Played for about 30 minutes. Seems fun but not as easy to get into as its made out to be due to analog stick controls I guess.

Game is accessible in that movesets were streamlined and special motions are essentially command normals in execution.

It still has an unforgiving mix-up game and moves way faster than what you would expect from an accessible fighting game.

That's not to say the game is not fun (it is!), but I'm expecting a lot of casual people hoping to have some matches online to drop it pretty quickly.

Where you did you get that from? How does it feel?
Used the Basstop custom shells from Amazon and modded my joycons myself. I originally was just going to get a premade set from etsy or eBay but decided I'd try to see if I could assemble it myself. Took about 90 or so minutes since it's a pain trying to keep track of all of the screws in a single joycon, but they work great. The D-Pad feels nice and firm, and where I originally had issues doing simple things like hadouken motions with the stock joycon directional buttons, I'm having no problem here. The joycon shells themselves are a little glossier than I imagined, but still look great.

Downloaded and played through all the tutorial.

Feels like there's a good game here, but there's a real lack of modes to make this stick as anything other than a multiplayer game. Feels like a strong core fighter , but needs more time in the oven.

Did all the tutorials, then got wrecked by the com in arcade, went into versus on easy mode and was still mostly whomped.
Then went online, lost handily to a guy playing "the Ryu" complete with actual basic bread and butter combos.

Yep it's a fighting game alright!

Game works really well on my d-pad joy con, but playing a game like this just isn't in my muscle memory. Kinda wish it gave us the option to do quarter circle back/forward moves since that's really all it is.

Pleasantly surprised by how different all the characters are. Doing the tutorial for each is fun!

All things considered though the presentation is great, the cast varied in looks and playstyle and huzzah for universal special inputs.
Definitely worth a punt for about ÂŁ7

Only spent like 2 mins in training, but the joy-con faux dpad works far better here than in SF/BB

I'll try Pro Controller/fight stick later

Quick impressions, after playing for 30/40 mins:

The game sets out to offer a simple and accessible experience to the classic fighting game mechanics and I believe it achieves it.
The simplified controls DO work well with the Switch's joycons, and most important of all, the game is very responsive.

I found it to be quite fast paced (that must take people by surprise considering the simplified visuals and controls), and the arcade mode unlike most games does not start off easy, as if there is no learning curve through the stages.

The four specials for each character are varied and even if someone jumps in without training, its intricacies are easy to learn.

The online was perfect, even with a match with ping larger than 2 digits.

PS: June character seems to be OP, girl reaches almost half the screen with a normal.

the AI in arcade mode is quite difficult for a game that's billing itself as an entry level fighter. I can beat the highest difficulty setting in BBtag but having some trouble here so far.

I just played one match in versus against the CPU. I won but it was certainly harder than I expected.

I can't watch the video now, but what are the plans for new fighters?
Backer bosses and then crossover bosses will be workshopped in Steam Early Access to make the finalized version 2.0 available for the Switch in the coming months. Then the final character, Morgana, will be worked on and doled out in a free update for both Switch and Steam versions.
