Yeah, it's awesome to see 'in the shadows' titles like House Flipper and Bus Simulator 18 ranked.

Titles that most enthusiast sites couldn't be bothered to even mention, let alone talk about.

Also really happy to see how prevalent Paradox is on the various lists, both as a dev and a publisher (CK2, Stellaris, Surviving Mars, BattleTech, etc.). They really are the Nintendo Magic (tm.) publisher of my gaming world.
Giant Bomb talked about House Flipper! Abby was playing it.

As other said it is more about lying and hiding than doing it. Just come out and say "we don't want SteamSpy for that and that reason".

And they will never fix Queue...

Agree. I have so much less faith in Valve as an entity the more they do this.

What if they are really doing their own?

Doesn't make much difference. IMO they have purposely pulled SteamSpy down before anything else is available. There are several reasons they may have done this, but GDPR is definitely not it.

So someone made a web site that a lot of people like and earned a lot of money? The horror!

It is against the terms of service to make money from that data, but also Valve have their own duty towards their own developers and protecting them. Valve hasn't interjected and even actively supported SteamSpy, until a point ages ago, where Sergey tried to charge a subscription for analytics. They forced him to leave it free. Whatever changed between GDC and now for them to actual actively prevent SteamSpy from being functional is interesting. However Valve blatantly lying about it, is whole egregious and obvious. After all the spiel about "don't lie to the internet", they are doing it more and more often, and never truthfully addressing these things.

The videogame industry is seemingly the only entertainment industry that actively tries to hide sales data.

Also true, but only because it isn't anywhere near as feasible to do in other industries

Valve can't afford to upgrade their servers. They only made like a billion dollars from the sale + market royalties. Servers are expensive ya know?

Yeah, the servers have been particularly shite this sale.
Like, if you can't handle it, don't make a dumb minigame that surely creates even more server-load.

Valve don't sell adds or marketing (one of the few platforms to have such a stance) so they get nothing from that.
As far as "upgrading servers", that isn't very likely to be the issue at all. They easily already have capacity and capability, but as with most storefronts like this, I'm guessing there are reasons to not always be so ready to handly rapid influx of users, eg DDOS protections

Also, I found using Steam via the web was far more successful and speedy than the client. No idea why that is / was. Server issues are definitely a thing though this sale

I didn't do any of the scripting stuff for Saliens so that's what I was able to get up to whenever I happened to see a boss that was half done already
But my guy's pretty badass for being made out of cheeto dust

Saliens appears to be done. No reason to try and access it anymore. Their front page says the Duldrums have been defeated.

The sale is ending soon and I'm thinking about what to buy. I have a wishlist full of some of the greatest games of all time. But I'm thinking about buying Singularity instead. Whyyyyyyyyy

Also, what's the difference in abusing the free trial to get the free games vs using pirate sites to get free games?

I see this a lot. You are not abusing free trials. When you sign up you give your data away and companies like Amazon begin tracking your every move within their ecosystem. This is valuable to them. Not to mention that many who sign up for these trials won't remember to cancel them or will decide the benefits are worth their while which is a conversion metric they can track. Free trials drive business otherwise companies like Amazon would have scrapped them ages ago. The old adage is true nothing is free , especially when dealing with businesses.

I remember when many had similar sentiments regarding Netflix trials. Netflix is doing just fine and still offers trials.

Others are right that Prime is pretty big in the US. It's a great set of games they are giving away especially if they are drm free once you download them from the client.

Not everyone cares about achievements, etc in comparison to being able to play a few games for "free". I assume no steam keys for now because their client goal is set up to focus around and stream to twitch and in the future they want a more gamer centric storefront streamers can push sales thru.

Interesting to watch but I don't see why anyone would be confused in others showing interest.

As long as developers are being compensated for their content, options are a good thing.

How is Kingdom Come these days?
Reinstalled it yesterday and played for a few minutes. The performance is definitely better than it was when I last played it (March). Up to 90FPS in the countryside but drops to 55 in towns (1080p; mostly high/ultra settings; GTX1070).

There's been a thread on it recently: https://www.resetera.com/threads/so-whats-the-consensus-on-kingdom-come-deliverance.52346/

Bleh, I have 30 dollars left on Steam, and I want to find something online. Any tips?

Is there a way I can share what games I already own?

Star Trek Bridge Simulator looks fun but I have no one to play it with and I'm a tad shy.

In case you somehow missed it over a year ago (like I did) and still use the Stylish browser extension, this is your friendly reminder to get rid of it. Actually the real friendly reminder was that mozilla just blocked it.

Get Stylus instead, it's a fork of Stylish without the nasty shit. Migration is easy, just use Stylish options menu to export your styles and then import them to Stylus.

wtf...thanks for the heads up

i guess i'll use stylus then

Did you all use scripts or was there a trick that I didn't know about?

I didn't use any scripts, boss battles showed up as gigantic ! alert symbols randomly? (but im sure someone will correct me) on planets that ended up giving several million XP a fight that basically XP boosted you. I went from lvl 9 to 10 to 11 etc and I only did 6 bosses fights and I stopped bothering with doing normal missions since it would take like 300+games to even make a dent in the level bar

I only just learned that there were boss fights.

The whole point of sales now is feeding you the discovery q and it doesn't work for shit even with scripts, yes I have a problem with that.
Concerning steamspy who cares if certain nier game sold 3 mil units if they never fixed it, I'd take 100 copies sold globally and it works like it's supposed to.

Did any of you win any games?

My Salien is level 4 and has 7,000XP. After the first day or two I got fed up so just restarted for my 3 cards every day afterwards.
