Does Cinemasins make money off their youtube channel? I thought you couldn't make money off copyrighted material. In fact I'm surprised all the different movie companies haven't filed charges against their channel given they show full scenes from most of the movies.

I mean that's every marvel movie. At least this one had a good director.
Most Marvel movies except a couple are critically acclaimed and well liked by a vast majority of movie goers. It's just wrong to try to argue they are all mediocre when their review score averages are in the high 60s to low 80s, as if you are some kinds of gods among movie critics who understand movies better than everyone else. They might have mediocre aspects in them (some of the larger action scenes in Black Panther are indeed such), but that doesn't mean the overall movie is bad or mediocre. Sometimes it's ok to admit you are wrong. You can't like all good movies.

...anything else besides that?

I think the highlights for me were the wool women with spears, the villains premise and the african influences in set/costume designs. Everything else from the plot to the storytelling and especially the effects were garbage. I endured it because a friend wanted to see the movie to the end, I think I would've dropped out at some point if I was alone. If it's any comfort to you I couldn't finish Dr. Strange.

Nah I think it's ok to disagree with "most moviegoers" just like it's perfectly fine to disagree with "most music listeners" about what is good and what is not.

Again, CinemaSins isn't serious and it's not worth getting upset over.

Getting mad at CinemaSins is like getting mad at Dunkey videos.
Nah, CinemaSins isn't lighthearted like Dunkey, it's typically more mean-spirited like Crowbcat that thrives off giving it's subscribers negative videos tearing down popular things.

Quite striking isn't it? They go out of their way that you don't see for other superhero films for some reason.
The criticism for BP doesn't stray from the same critiques that the other Marvel movies get. Are you implying people go extra hard on this movie because of the black cast?

Saw this movie the other day. It was...Boring? Not sure why people acted like this was such an incredible film. Much preferred Civil War.

A Marvel movie with world building , atleast that was the appeal for me to go watch it. But yes, it was kind of boring, needed more of the waterfall opening and crowning ceremony and less of everything else.

The worst part about CinemaSins is that no one actually disagrees that it's garbage: it's just some people saying that it's very bad, and other people saying that you shouldn't care if it's bad because it's meant to be bad.

I don't usually see people defending the comedy in these videos, or how the critique holds up, or how well it was edited. It's just a way to kickstart conversations about movies that are on Blu-ray while rewatching someone repeatedly criticize how long a logo was shown on screen during a movie that lasts 2 hours.

Yeah, this would have been exciting. I like the idea behind it, but the execution and action stuff was blah.

nah fam, don't do this. don't try to make this about that.

It's just something I read a LOT during the initial release. I'm not saying it's true. But observation is what it is.

This is actually the most positive cinemasins thread that I've witnessed.

And why do people care if someone makes a thread about them? If you don't like them, just ignore the thread.

Working on that also.
He went full over the top evil, he's waited his whole life for this moment and goes full idiot gotta kill everybody in the end.

He could've been zemo level good but he turned into abomination.

Killing was literally in his name though. The movie went out of it's way to show that Killmonger was good at killing and that alone. He even had a speech and scares all over his body to show that fact. It's never really shown once in the movie that he is either self reflective or contemplative of his beliefs just that he knows he is right and he will kill anything in his way to stop it. You may disagree with him going kill happy but the reasons why he is killing are still there that were established in the beginning of the movie.

There's just no argument to be made that everything but those things are "garbage". The large battle scenes (and BP & Killmonger falling through the air) are pretty shitty but there's a lot of good VFX/CGI work and the rest is unarguably handled at worst competently and at best really well. Not the most original story but a well structured and build one.

You tried it.
That would be a new, multiple levels low even for oscars.

BP will not get nominated for best picture, no way.

And while we are at it, Winter Solider is hot garbage too.

If it gets a best picture nomination I'll be floored. It's average at best and has terrible effects, the villain falls apart in the end which is a damn shame because he was killing it in the first half.

The back half is basic

Name 3 movies released in 2018 better than Black Panther. Or even 1 lmao.

Good luck!

So because he killed a lot before as a soldier I'm supposed to believe he's gonna throw away everything he's planned when he's king. He was right about sharing tech but it turned out all he was gonna do is murder everything.

Killmonger likes to kill, that's his whole deal.

While I found the movie to be overall, very strong, the parts with Andy Serkis (what a waste of his talent this movie was) were fucking shit. It should have been Killmonger as the villain all the way.

where are these supposedly stellar MCU movies?

Nowhere. Infinity War was the one I hated the least.

Our definitions of "good" are wildly different. The effects took me out of of the movie all the time. The dancing people on the waterfall literally reminded me of Star Wars Prequels.

I don't know why people are remarking on the quality of Black Panther, the movie and character, if this video and CinemaSins isn't commentary or criticism, and just unfunny jokes.

(Posted it before, but it's the Schrödinger's cat of youtube videos; it's serious until it's comedy/satire, whichever is convenient.)
You know why.

CinemaSins is awesome. ERA just doesn't like people making fun of movies they like.

Part of being a well rounded person is taking criticism of something you like. I love one piece but I understand it is sexist, overly long, and has arcs that goes to long sometimes. Doesn't mean I don't like the series though, Cinema Sins however doesn't partake in fair criticism of films and instead makes fun of them for seemingly arbitrary reasons. Also the claim to not critic things while actively criticizing something... badly. Don't blame a internet forum for asking you to think about the media that you are consuming.

You REALLY haven't heard people say Get Out is overrated? Bullshit, I hear it a lot.
Never, Get Out is widely praised just like Black Panther which has the same problems other MCU movies have and is critiqued for those. And people not liking something with a black cast doesn't equal racism.

Of course I do! :P

But, for all the people saying you shouldn't take CinemaSins seriously, and then go ahead and comment on the quality of the movie they are discussing, not to praise the movie but to complain about it being overrated... shockingly because of the Black cast... it just becomes transparent that these unfunny "comedy" videos are treated as criticism and a launching point to discuss the quality of movies, thereby making my point about it being a Schrödinger's cat true, that the argument shifts to whatever is convenient, and that these videos suck in both ways.

Now that we've discussed why Black Panther and Get Out were vastly overrated, can I talk about how Wonder Woman wasn't good and how the reviewers were inflating the scores of Ghostbusters 2016? Please don't see any connection to the movies I'm singling out! /s

I don't think I saw too many people praise the cast of BP just for being black. At least not after it was released.

When I watched, it actually surprised me, because I usually expect MCU movies to be either funny or too serious, with the only exception being the first Avengers. Black Panther did something else and focused on world building, as some have already said in this thread. GotG was supposed to have it, but the cosmic themes, for people unfamiliar with the comics, could feel a little too random. With Black Panther, the entire movie told you the story about Wakanda, about the tribes, about the rituals and about the philosophy of the country.

The characters were also very different from the usual, I think: Killmonger wasn't just good because he was right, sometimes. He was especially good because he wasn't very different from heroes of other movies. Just a little stuck in the past. T'challa was a good stoic hero, who wasn't trying to crack jokes every few seconds, which was new for Marvel.

It obviously didn't feel like a David Lynch or Ingmar Bergman movie, sure. It is a superhero flick, 100%. Still, I enjoyed it and felt like it conveyed the feeling of awesome adventure and fights that I expect from a superhero movie. The CGI was garbage and it could have used more down time instead of the endless fight scenes, and it could use a gimmick (like Ant-Man's heist plot, or Winter Soldier's Bourne-like feeling), but it still offers some of the best storytelling and characters in MCU, for me.
