Ys IX Monstrum Nox coming 2021 (PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch)

That's incredibly depressing. Hopefully the extra time they're taking to release the game in the West will allow them to fix things up from a technical standpoint, at least on PS4, but I'm not optimistic. Fully expecting the Switch port to be a disaster now, so that one's gonna be a wait and see from me.

I'm curious, are the YS games connected? I always see the same red-headed protagonist so I take it they are?
They always have the same protagonist (Adol) but they're loosely connected. They follow a certain continuity but is not necessary to play all the games to understand the story of each one.
They are. They're mostly all standalone stories but they're all set in the same world with the same protagonist, basically Adol gets in a LOT of messes.
They are adventures of Adol, and there is a continuity with some character reappearances(most notably Adol's friend Dogi) and nods here and there but they all work standalone.
they are, but most games are standalone stories. ys viii take place after ys v, for instance, but you don't need to play ys v to understand it - which is fine because apparently ys v wasn't too great and it's stuck in japan.

the protagonist is the same character, and they are connected. but you can play each game without playing the previous ones without losing a WHOLE lot.

Presumably given this isn't being handled by Falcom themselves this time, the Switch port will be better than VIII's.

Seems like the engine has a rough time with all the effects from the Monstrum abilities. Or the density of NPCs/environment in the City (where most of the game takes place). The 30fps was definitely disappointing, but I still beat it on Nightmare with not much trouble.
It's the same continuity as the rest. This takes after alll the other games.

Yep, Adol's the mc in all of them except Origin and each game is basically him journeying to a different land. Their stories are pretty stand-alone though.

On YouTube trailer description it says coming to PS4 first. But PR does not mention that.
PS4 is the only native version of the game. The youtube trailer's description says coming first to PS4 too.
Game is a mess on PS4, so it might take some extra time to make it work on Switch.
Awesome, I played the PS4 version of Ys VIII when it came out, but didn't get very far because I got sidetracked by other games. But recently I bought and finished the polished PC version, because there was a greater chance of me finishing the game if it was on my PC - and what an amazing game that was, one of the best I've played in a while.
I'm really looking forward to Ys IX, it looks like it shakes up the formula a bit. Hopefully the localization and PC version are great out of the gate this time - or I'll punch a BIG HOLE in something.

It is expected. And I don't see the issue. They have to port the game. And at least, they're not hiding the existence of the game.

edit: and announcing the pc/switch ports now and not after the ps4 version is out is a good consumer-friendly move.
On top of that, they promised faster releases. I guess it's the price to pay when Falcom doesn't port the games themselves... but on the other hand, it means studios more competent to port. Especially for the PC versions.
It was better. Still bad though even on Pro after even the 2nd patch. Didn't touch the game after finishing it on Nightmare though. That was about a week after the 2nd patch.

I think it was considered a step down from 8 but still pretty good.
Hm, the game's setting doesn't have the nearly the appeal of VIII's, but the combat seems as fun if not better so that's good.

They're but like there's an order to it more or less, for example After I & II comes IV not III, and it's the most recent version of IV not the original ones(there were two) IX is the latest on the timeline but doesn't come after VIII which is actually placed after V or something, I forgot.
