No particular order. These 5 games have stuck with me in a way that no AAA games have this gen.
Maybe that's an indication of my changing tastes in gaming more than anything, but I'm glad the Indie scene is absolutely thriving right now.
Could easily go 5 more as well.

while a lot of it's gameplay mixes bullet hell shooting and RPG, a lot of the game is story and character focused
every enemy usually has multiple nuggets of lore you can find by doing different things, and sometimes those things are directly referenced by other enemies or in the world itself
its p neat
i wouldn't exactly call it a 'narrative game' really, but i could see the angle

I wish I was smart enough to get into DF. Or rather, that I had the persistence to power through the steep learning curve. I kinda topped out with the likes of Crusader Kings II, RimWorld and Kerbal Space Program. I hope to give DF another shot when it lands on Steam.
Nice shoutout for Caves of Qud, btw. For some reason, I actually did manage to crest that mountain.
