Easy enough, they're...

1. SRPGs (Valkyria Chronicles, Matsuno, FE)
2. JRPGs (DQ, FF, SMT)
3. ARPGs (Kingdom Hearts, Tales Of)
4. Metroidvanias (Iga mostly)
5. Action-Adventure (too inclusive of a genre tbh, but anything from Gravity Rush to Batman Arkham fits here imo)

2 and 3 are wonky because they're oftentimes the same thing (Kingdom Hearts, Tales Of, etc) :P But I love a ton of other stuff too, like VNs, survival horror, the better first person shooters, etc. SRPGs are n1 though - I make an effort to play just about every single one released.

Folks are going to need to dress up their lists at least a little to avoid being closed on the basis of being a list thread :P

1. Action Adventure
2. RPGs (usually Jrpgs)
3. Platformers
4. Metroidvania
5. Third Person Shooters

Honorable mention: Survival Horror

Note: if metroidvania is not considered a subgenre then replace it with number 5 and replace that one with the honorable mention.

In no paticular order:
- Racing
- Arcade Sports
- Puzzle
- Turn Based strategy
- WRPGS

Though I play a lot of other genres as well.

edit: also OP, I think you meant to say just "genres", not "subgenres" in the title

Edit: never mind, my fault

I think I can actually order that:
1. 3D platformers
2. 2D platformers
3. Action-Adventures (Zelda-like or Metroidvania, not the "shooter with a narrative" kind)
4. Arcade racer
5. SRPG

1. 3rd person survival horror
2. Linear / metroidvania 3rd person action-adventures
3. Action RPGs
4. Arcade racing
5. Horror-themed walking simulators

And the least...

1. Run & hide horror
2. Open world in general
3. Platformers
4. Racing simulators
5. Sports & fighters

Sadly, the AAA titles aren't really catering to my tastes anymore.

Survival Horror
JRPG
Strategy RPG
Action RPG
Rhythm

- I also prefer 2D over 3D versions of the genre but it still depends on the art style.
- I love inventory management
- SP over MP
- OST is a big factor which is why I love Rhythm games.
- Stats. I love seeing numbers.

1. stylish / character action (God Hand, Ninja Gaiden II)
2. sidescrolling action-platformers (Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Hard Corps: Uprising)
3. third-person shooters (Vanquish, Resident Evil 4)
4. first-person shooters (Final Doom, Serious Sam 3)
5. shoot-em-up (Ketsui, Dangun Feveron)

Mostly I just like cool, responsive action games. There are genres I think I'd put among my favorites if I played more of them like racing games (more specifically arcade racers like F-Zero), puzzle games in the vein of Puyo Puyo and Panel de Pon, and strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem, but I don't feel like I could rank any of those three in my top five at the moment.

1. 2D platformers (i'm including metroidvanias here as well)
2. JRPGs (mostly turn-based, but i like some action ones as well)
3. action-adventure (zelda-likes, i guess character action is included here as well)
4. puzzle games
5. visual novels

my bottom 5 is probably:
1. racing games (except mario kart)
2. sports games (all of them)
3. simulation games
4. card games (hearthstone and the like)
5. "cinematic" 3rd person games

1) Immersive Sim (is this what we can agree on with the Arkane games? Dishonored also having stealth approaches and Prey being a metroidvania in a way... I'd even put Bioshock in here even if it is a shooter!)
2) WRPGs
3) JRPGs
4) Metroidvania
5) 4k strategy

Honorable mention to cRPG and SRPG

Not interested in fighting games, racing games, sports games (veeeery rarely, for tennis it would be different), dudebro shooters with no loot/story, not much into roguelikes either (though there are exceptions)

My top five, no particular order:

First-person shooters
I think I fully fell in love with FPSs with Dark Forces. It felt like such a fleshed-out and immersive way of playing a game. It's been one of my favourite genres ever since, in part because the genre is typically on the cutting edge of new technology. Highlights include - Halo: CE, Halo Reach, Crysis, Black, Half Life series, Call of Juarez Gunslinger

Third-person action-adventures
I'm being quite broad with this as I'm pretty much including any third-person stealth or action game. I like the 'wide linear' style of design, so recent high points are the last few games from Naughty Dog. Other highlights include - Metal Gear Solid 3, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Devil May Cry 3, God of War, Hellblade

Walking sims
I'm serious. I think games can be a great vehicle for delivering an interesting or impactful story, and walking sims often get me really immersed in their setting and premise. Highlights include - Journey, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Tacoma

Horror games
One of my favourite genres in general, but games in particular have the capability of being incredibly involving because of the medium. They have a way of worming their way inside you head like few other genres. Highlights include - Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil 1 & 2 remakes, Dead Space, Lone Survivor, Soma

Action RPGs
Again, I'm being kinda broad with this definition but I love the idea of having a huge world to explore, enemies to fight and dungeon areas to explore. Highlights include - Zelda: BotW, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dragon's Dogma

Honourable mention: Karting games. I just wish as a genre if had more representation.

Least favourites, no particular order:

Card games
MMOs
Simulation games
Super-grindy gatcha shit. Doesn't matter the genre
Sports games. With the exception of tennis and billiards I basically dislike all of them (but then I don't like sports in real life either)

what is a genre in 2019? not sure.. im just gonna list what i like in single player games.

rpg elements
third person camera
a good, well presented and well acted story
lack of busy work, meaningless, boring side activities.
slower paced, methodical combat.

only thing i play that doesnt fit this mold is 4x and tycoon/management games.
also indies, but again, have no idea how to categorise those
