Your Predictions/Hopes For Final Fantasy VII Remake PS5/Final Mix/Definitive Edition/Ever Crisis (?) Re-Release

Idea spun off from another thread, but I figured we could quickly lay out our hopes and predictions for the rumored (and pretty much inevitable) re-release of Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5 and PC (and maybe Xbox).

This may in fact be revealed in a few hours as the digital Japan-only concert will soon premiere, so let's see how many predictions we get right.

What I want:

1. Higher quality textures and 60 fps (I wouldn't be at all surprised if they specifically show the infamous doors for a quick second during the reveal trailer)

2. Improvements to aerial combat (more attacks, enemy tracking, etc)

3. All party members now sit on the bench (yes this is such a minor nitpick but dammit Cloud be a gentleman and make room)

4. More battle banter (breaks my heart Tifa and Aerith don't get any with each other)

5. Not a full-priced upgrade: I would be very surprised if the PS5 version was a free upgrade, as they'll likely use the rumored Tifa DLC and other enhancements as justification to charge you again. So long as it's not a full-price upgrade, I'm fine with that.

6. Speaking of the Tifa DLC, I'll gladly take whatever it has, from new cutscenes to battles to outfits even. But I'm hoping we get more glimpses to her past, including how she originally joined AVALANCHE (which is infuriatingly still the only blank spot in the entire FFVII Timeline)

7. An extra difficulty mode, or a new bonus dungeon.

8. A Secret Movie that teases Part 2. Even an epilogue cutscene would be great.

9. More shortcuts for abilities/spells. They could easily give you a whole extra slot for more awesome combos.

A jump button.

Fighting in the air is so annoying, feels like I have to be just right for my character to jump.

EDIT: Maybe fix the less stellar animations, some NPC animations are downright hideous

I'd be super happy already with extra story content. I'm doubtful it will have meaningful changes to the combat system (such as better aerial), they'll probably save it for Pt. 2.

The issue with the air combat is that enemies can move away when you lunge upwards for them so you're stuck hitting air half the time. If they improved the tracking and slightly stunlocked the enemies (like in KH) or at least made each hit in the combo track the enemy better, it wouldn't be so bad. Flying enemies are meant more for ranged party members or magic anyways though just like in the original so I don't want them to make air melee too OP, just at least make it hit more often so you're not stuck waiting for ATB.

Thing I want the most that is not going to happen: Better aggro management mechanics. It completely disincentivises micro-managing runes and healing with Aerith when the AI omnipotently targets the player and not the characters.

Thing I want that might be plausibe: some more robust postgame and combat arena content either in Wall Market or the VR Missions. I just want more opportunities to really stretch the combat system without neccesarily making new bespoke animations and enemies, especially considering how long it's going to be til Part 2.

1. fix the texture issues/slight improvements on visuals.

2. more post-game contents, mainly battle related stuff like more VR/arena and super bosses.

3. some extra-story content

4. secret movie that teases the next game

5. adjust some battle issues like lock-on/aerial combat/materia load-out.

6. upgrade path for those who have the PS4 version.

For the game to end...

After the motorcycle chase with the gang getting out of the city like the original Midgar story and skip all that Harry Potter demontors/Sephiroth horse shit. Felt like they threw the Sephiroth fight in as an apology for breaking the game up, but it felt way too fucking forced and the game did not need it. That moment should have been saved. I still hate they did that.

I'd be just fine with 60fps/4K, improved loading that takes full advantage of the Series/PS5 systems as well as the textures. Anything else on top of that is just gravy.

- Tifa side chapter
- Quality of life enhancements like more/better fast travel in non-linear chapters

I hope like everyone 60fps and better resolution/texture. I watch a full playthrough since i didn't have a sony console when the game launch, so it would be nice to get some news story content when playing it now.

Honestly it might just be a graphics upgrade, i don't know if they feel FF7R needs a Final Mix/Royal Edition, the game has a shitload of content, it really drags on too much at times.

Rework the whole ghosts of destiny stuff at the end. I really didn't like that twist to the OG story.

My prediction is that this doesn't exist. Ever Crisis is going to be something else. If we do get a PS5 port, it'll just be a standard higher res deal. They're busy working on Part 2.

The entire game is built around leading to that ending. What you're asking for is a different game entirely.
Which is understandable because this was advertised as a Remake, but that's not what it ended up being, but just cutting the ending wouldn't change the entire plot of the game up until that point which was all about Aerith and Sephiroth doing some 4D chess shit with destiny

I don't want any added content tbh since I know SE will use that to most likely resale the game at full price without any upgrade path.

But if they do add anything, I (foolishly) hope that current owners either get a free or a significantly discounted upgrade.

just my prediction , it maybe true or untrue

in Summer 2021

- Part 1 will be available for PS5 , Xbox One + Series S|X
- free upgrade for PS4 to 5 owner
- optional season pass for extra story/side quests for Part1
- Part 1 Definitive Edition ( with season pass ) SKU
- Teasing of Part 2 being exclusive on PS5 for a period of time

Note : not into/interested in PC version , just my personal preference , thanks

That written, it is still possible we'll get something nearer to the end, like ya said!

I wish that when SE sees fans hype themselves up and give themselves hopes that aren't true, they tell us to lower our expectations. Instead they let us get worked up over nothing. At least then their own fans wouldn't feel so damn burned but I guess you gotta get as many people to pay their 4000 yen tickets as possible, huh. (I got the impression that Japanese fans also had the same dumb faith in SE as we did)

Next time they imply actual news is releasing at a specific date I'm just gonna go to bed and wait for gaming outlets to compile that shit for me.

Yeah just a hunch but I don't think they'll be removing the ending of the game for the re-release. "The first episode of this game we carved up into pieces is now also missing its original ending" is not the best pitch.

There was never any serious implication. News outlets leapt at an iffy interpretation of a translated statement from Toriyama. Certainly, I will agree with you that straightforwardness is not Square Enix's forte. If indeed there isn't any new information at any point throughout or shortly after tonight's concert, then it would have been great for Square to have come out in front of this after a few gaming websites hyped people up. (To the credit of said sites, most updated their original drafts to advise caution once it was made clearer that Toriyama didn't explicitly state new information was coming.)

It's worth noting that Kitase is still scheduled to deliver a video message at some point during this evening's performance. I've been skeptical about what we're getting here from the start but I'm admittedly keeping myself going with coffee refills in case anything does occur.

All I really need is fixed textures. 60fps would be great too, though I wasn't bothered by the framerate myself. Anything else would be just a bonus.

Improved aerial combat is the most obvious gameplay fix, but I'm not getting my hopes up that it will be improved until Pt. 2.

A little wishlist for minor features:

- being able to run around as any characters in the party

- materia loadouts, a couple for each weapon

- bonus outfits for everyone, but especially for my husbando Cloud. I'm sorry to be like this but a tank top or beach costume would make my year, even if the second one wouldn't make sense in Pt. 1's setting

- an extra materia slot for skill materia like Assess and Parry

Of course, I'm always down for more story content. I would love a Tifa-focused DLC. She's so much damn fun to play, and I like her character in general.

Don't fancy playing the whole game again though so hopefully whatever is added is somewhat standalone in terms of story and not lots of little additions throughout the main story.

They aren't going announced anything on other platforms. Exclusive wear off on 10 april and it wont be released before May(Nier is on April)

That level of support would be a dream. Personally I don't expect that type of comprehensive upgrade until Pt. 2 is released, at the earliest. But we can hope!
