Ah beat me to it!

I think the earliest occurrence of this happens in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, when Indy gets caught in Castle Brunwald roaming the halls by Nazi guards?

Yeah, it's a reference to the original Indy quote which was: "I'm selling fine leather jackets like the one I'm wearing"

"ahoy there, fancy pants"

It took me years to work through all the puzzles of Monkey Island when I was younger, lacking access to online guides, and it remains one of my favorite and formative gaming experiences. Brilliant series.

"How appropriate, you fight like a cow!" will always be my favourite.

I love that it is still referenced in other games today. The most recent example being in Legends of Runeterra, the Riposte card's flavour quote is "How appropriate, you fight like a Poro!"

"Sometimes, when it's quiet... I can still hear the monkeys"

I have this on a poster.

Edward Van Helgen:
What! You shot my banjo!

Guybrush Threepwood:
You can't be sure of that. That shot may have come from the grassy knoll.

Madre de Dios! Es "El Pollo Diablo"!

These are top tier. I'd add:

"Ask me about Grim Fandango. I don't want people asking me about Grim Fandango."

The sequence where Guybrush has fraudulently gained access to the beach club in Curse has some great stuff. The "No, you mustn't!" "I must. And perhaps I'll sunbathe nude!" exchange leaps to mind.

I was worried about Escape From Monkey Island until the opening 20 seconds:

VO-"... And an urge to be a pirate."
Guybrush looking at the screen " I want to be a pirate."

I say this whenever anyone asks me if I have any more questions.

"I'm afraid if you don't have a membership card you cannot use any of the club's amenities."
"I don't want an amenity. I had to eat one of those while I was lost at sea and it was terrible."

Guybrush Threepwood:
I guess I'll represent myself.

Judge Wallace P. Grindstump:
Captain Threepwood, are you aware of the old pirate court saying "the pirate who represents himself in court has a soon-to-be-keelhauled fool for a client"? [chuckles]

Guybrush Threepwood:
Yes, your honor... and I am that fool.

So many good ones already.

Guybrush Threepwood:
How can you see without eyeballs?

Murray:
How can you walk around without a brain? Some things no one can answer.

The correct order in which Monkey Island should be experienced is:
1
2
...

that's it

This said, the best quote for me is the already mentioned:

Welshman: Even the bravest of men must dread the horror of this place! Steel your courage boy, now, before you gaze upon the terrible, horrible face of... Skull Island!
Guybrush: That's a duck!
Welshman: What are you talking about? Don't you see the skull?
Guybrush: This island doesn't look like a skull at all. It looks like a great, big, enormous duck. It should be called Duck Island.
Welshman: Well, you see, you've got to squint and sort of turn your head and... Oh! It's just so scary!
Guybrush: If you squint and turn your head, it looks like a bunny.

This thread just made me install the special editions of 1 and 2. Bought 'em a couple of years ago, but never got around to play them.

Here we go!

Meathook: You've got a real attitude problem!
Guybrush: Well...you've got a real hair problem!
Meathook: You just don't know when to quit, do you?
Guybrush: Neither did your barber.

I kind of agree, but I do like the others, except Curse.

Tales chapter 4 is secretly one of the best chapters in the series though.
Curse has some great moments but ultimately as an adventure is a letdown. I should pick up that fourth chapter but honestly I've tried the Tales and I didn't like them, they were just not as funny or well thought...

Curse was so good!

I think all of the games have their good points but man I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a game than I was in tales. I really didn't like that one at all

LeChuck to Ozzie Mandrill about Guybrush - 'Are you sure I can't kill him yet? I've left him alive before and it's always turned out to be a big mistake'.

Escape wasn't my favourite Monkey Island game, but it had some great quotes.

Tales is a much better game then Escape from Monkey Island at least.

Currently replaying Escape (first time in 19 years!) with my fiancée after going through 1, 2 and 3 earlier this month, and soon Tales.

The 20 bucks line is still so great. Any 4th wall breaking moment is delicious.

I can't pick one. It's always so funny. I'm surprised by how funny Escape is.

Curse of Monkey Island is still the best. I need a remaster asap.

Tales was regrettably hamstrung by each episode having to be crammed into 40MB to make it onto Wiiware. Telltale didn't quite grasp how to design within that limit for the first couple chapters, and it shows. They had time to change course for the rest of the series, though, and chapters 3 and 4 are up there with Curse, between being tightly constructed bottle episodes and having just plain better comedy writing.

So many. But "selling these fine leather jackets" are probably the most memorable, even if it's not original from the game.
