Would the Master System technically count here? Thought it was better than the Mega Drive in some respects - obviously, not as cool. A very comfy experience. I could list off a few titles that are better to play on the system compared to its 16 bit successor.

If not, I'm going with the Sony Vita. An incredible feat of engineering. It introduced me to Danganronpa and so many cool physical releases thanks to Limited Run Games and Play Asia. The only system with a physical version of Papers, Please and hopefully VVVVVV.

Vita. I'm still angry at Sony for giving up on it. It's why I will never trust Sony in regards to hardware that is not a home console. This includes how I don't trust their PSVR initiative.

It's the Dreamcast, unquestionably. Saturn and PC Engine are also excellent contenders if we're ignoring Japan! And of course, Wii U and Vita are both also great, as was the Neo Geo Pocket Color!

Are some people here seriously considering the GameCube a flop? Let's bear in mind that it was essentially the second most popular console of it's gen! I know the Xbox outsold it by a small margin but Xbox sales were mostly concentrated in the USA so globally and generally speaking GameCube was most definitely #2 that gen.

Edit: just checked some stuff out and turns out I had the wrong impression regarding the above, seems like the Xbox consistently outsold (marginally) the GC in every region except Japan, I shouldn't have let my personal experience in only two countries while growing up taint my perception of the state of affairs in my region as a whole.

I owned a Mega CD, a Sega Saturn, a Dreamcast and a Vita. If I'm being honest, the one I miss the least is the Saturn, but the other three are very high in my peronsal list (still have my Vita, but my oldest offspring claimed it for their own, a few years ago).

The only console flop I've owned is the Vita and I don't really consider it as such personally, as I love my Vita dearly. But there's no way around the fact that it was a commercial flop.

Is the Xbox One considered a flop? If so that's my choice. I really enjoyed the 2 1/2 years I spent with my One X.

Dreamcast for me. The machine was a fantastic piece of hardware and it was home to a huge number of genuine classics.

There were some stupid decisions made (one analogue stick, 'It's Thinking' campaign, no EA sports) but the console itself and games available didn't deserve the end they got.

Not in the least. It's sold more than the SNES and Megadrive/Genesis and more than double the amount of the original Xbox. It didn't sell as well as the 360 or any of Sony's machines but it's been in no way a flop.

Easy peasy, the Saturn.

I have one permanently hooked up to a TV in my house. A truly flawed piece of hardware with a ton of pre-release fuck ups but also full of classics and bangers.

Sega Rally, Daytona, Virtua Fighter games, the Panzer Dragoon's, the best 32bit versions of Street Fighter/Marvel games, Tomb Raider, Wipeout, Burning Rangers, Saturn Bomberman etc... I could go on.

Not sure it does... I mean, it was widely supported until 1996 in Europe... the fact that it flopped specifically in the US doesn't necessarily mean it was actually a flop.

Do you seriously have to ask if a console that sold 50 million copies is considered a flop?
It sold less than half of it's competitors and lost a significant amount of market share. That seems like a legitimate reason to ask if it's considered a flop.

Depends on how you define flop.

I love my Dreamcast, my NeoGeo Pocket Color and my WiiU.
However I would see their status as a flop quite different. I expected the WiiU to be a good console that will have the success of the N64 oder GC and not what happend. I expcted the DC to perform a bit better than it did, but it was a moderate success as far as I know (the problem was that Sega needed a huge success and thus it "flopped") and I did not expect the NGPC to succed in the way a GBA did and it even outdid my expectations when it comes to sales (however i hoped for a few more years of software support and not shoddy GBA KOFs,...).

Atari Jaguar.

I don't really know why as the console had only a few games ever available and most of them were mediocre at best but yeah, I loved it.

The box, the design of the console, the weird controller, the booting sequence. Everything.

The Wii U. Nintendo put out a fair number of high-quality games for the system. I enjoyed it more than than Wii or even the GameCube.

Wii U was a fun console, especially while Miiverse was around. I actually enjoyed the Virtual Boy too back in the day. Playing Tennis, Red Alarm, and Mario Clash were fun diversions in-between more serious game sessions.

PlayStation Vita & SEGA Dreamcast.

Great software line up. Dreamcast literally felt like I had amassed my own home arcade, was amazing. Such good memories with my brother with it. I also remember being blown away by how big the screen for the Vita was at the time (and how much I loved Gravity Rush).

Dunno if they are considered consoles or not? But i really love the Wonderswan and the Gizmondo. I don't now if the Wonderswan "flopped" as it sold 3.5m units, and it never left Japan afaik; Gizmondo on the other hand was just a mess in overall sales, pricing, marketing and everything surrounding it. But i still just love everything about it

If GameCube is a flop, that's mine. I had a PS2 for ages and bought a GC for Resi 4. I remember being so bitter when Resi 4 was then announced for PS2, but I loved the little box.

The Wii U. It has a quality library and the gamepad is shockingly comfortable despite its form factor. And its backward compatibility is a huge plus.

I'm glad the Switch was a success so more people can experience awesome games like Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101.

What are people calling the N64 and the GameCube flops? Do the numbers bear that out? I don't recall that they were viewed that way at the time.

PS Vita. It was such a good handheld. So good. That OLED screen.

Plus all the amazing games on it.

I was finally boxing up my WiiU just two days ago, with a tear in my eye

An absolute flop whose main mistake was marketing towards someone like me and not the general populace.

If Gamecube is a flop (I don't consider it), then Gamecube.

Followed by Dreamcast and Vita.
