Ameterasu is my favorite this year. Really loving Okami so far on the Switch. Not only is her design amazing but her personality in the cut-scenes is great. She plays off well with her cricket friend. Still have to go and finish it, been pre-ocuppied with Smash and Let's Go Eevee. ;o
Madeline, who's relatable story and characterization helped contextualize the tough as nails platforming of Celeste into a cathartic and empowering journey.
Tressa, for being a fun and very useful protagonist for my Octopath playthrough, even if her story isn't as climactic as some, that's made up for by...
Olberic, who carried my team through some tough fights and beat the crap out of just about everyone, including the people being mean to Tressa.

If you had told me a year ago that my favorite video game character of 2018 would be a purple dinosaur named Susie, I'd have thought you crazy.
But it's definitely Susie from Deltarune. The "bully with a hidden heart of gold" archetype is overplayed, but the jokes with her all land and the way she mellows out is touching.

Arthur Morgan was sublime as well, and he's obviously a more fleshed out character as the star of the game.

Mimir was fantastic from a narrative and gameplay perspective. He also has a great design and the best voice acting in the game (IMO). When he told Atreus that he is actually already dead but just reanimated in a nonchalant way I felt really sad out of nowhere.
Alluding to my own post earlier, it's kinda insane we know much more about Noelle than we do about Ralsei.
Got into the series this year with Yakuza 0 and hence its Goro Mazima for me.

I agree with everyone saying Arthur Morgan, but I would like Kassandra to get an honorable mention.
J.J. Macfield from The MISSING is easily my favorite character this year. Loved her so much.

It's Arthur Morgan for me. Amazing voice acting by Roger Clark and just a wonderfully written character with a lot of depth. Not only my favorite character of the year but one of my favorite characters in gaming ever.
Honorable mention goes to Connor from Detroit Become Human, because holy shit I loved his missions and interactions with Hank.

Arthur is definitely my pick, although I liked a good majority of the gang. Sadie was great, but she only really gets to shine once you hit chapter 6.

Tressa, she is just a very pleasant and interesting character, octopath is the only game with new character that really stands out to me, havent played some certain things like Celeste
I don't want to be that guy be this game release in early 2017. Change on title or the rule i suppose...Figured I'd make another one of these, because who doesn't enjoy gushing about characters they love and maybe convince others to give them a shot? Only rule is you had to play the characters game for the first time in 2018.
Last year a small, feisty Welsh catgirl stole the spot for me. This year, I've mixed it up a bit, by picking one that's not Welsh. That's right, my pick goes to
Mae Borowski - Night in the Woods
NitW has some of the best characters and writing I've come across, and is pretty high up on my GOTY list. I'd happily recommend spending some time with Mae and the quirky townspeople of Possum Springs if you're looking for a slower paced game to start the new year.
Gonna agree with everyone saying Arthur Morgan. He's just a genuinely compelling character, and I ended really caring for him and wanting him to be better as I went through the game. I dunno, I just really like the guy.

I can't take these Arthur Morgan posts seriously while he's going around robbing innocent people in trains/banks all throughout the game.
Yuri Lowenthal's Peter Parker gets my vote. Not even Tom Holland or Tobey McGuire could have landed a performance delivering an optimistic and positive Super hero like Yuri pulled off.

Such a wonderful good man. By the end of the game, you feel like you're playing the kindest man alive in this fucked up, dangerous world. And also probably the best gunslinger ever. Stellar performance too, and he's handsome (and you can customize him deeply, the beard and hair customization is awesome).
Some other picks :
I also really liked Goro Majima in Yakuza 0. I was expecting to play a fucked up yakuza, I was wrong. A good man too, I also love his Cabaret mini game. And to kick ass with his baseball bat is my fav combat's style of the game.
All the protags from Octopath Traveler were really good too. Love them all.
Not a playable character, but Norman Osborn in Spider-Man was awesome. He's my favorite comic book's villain ever, here it's such a different interpretation ofthe character, but damn I loved him. Won't talk about spoilers, but this time you care about the dude EVEN IF he's already doing some fucked up things with Oscorp without being the Green Goblin.
