8 hour working days + 1,5 ish hour commute to and from + need to sleep + need to to chores + going out with friends a couple of times every week, possibly attending a couple of concerts every month = barely any time for gaming anymore, much less games that take forever to finish.

I'm up for 16 hours a day. Chores don't take five hours. There's also weekends, which aren't always consumed by friends. Concerts are like a few hours one evening.

I also have a commute that I can play games on.

If you mentioned kids/spouse you might have more of a point.

Kojima is a god-awful writer. He's an edgy "2deep4you" high school kid that never grew up.

I think his issue is that he thinks he's a much better writer than he is. If he knew that he were making batshit crazy plots that are just sort of nutty and enjoyable in the moment, he'd be okay, but he thinks that he can do things like present a theme effectively or that his commentary on contemporary life gets beyond the insight of a fourth-grader's essay on a pre-teen lit book. That's where he gets off the rails.

He's fine with entertaining plot beats, but beyond that, he's terrible at writing.

Warlocks in Destiny don't have bad jumping capabilities. You just suck ass at videogames and have no spacial awareness. Every class's jump is more or less suitable, depending on the situation.

95% of people agree with that, not controversial at all
It can be controversial in the right threads when a Kojima game is being hyped up. Or when Geoff Keighley is around.

Yeah he's not self-aware at all. If he was, his writing would improve tenfold. It reminds me of the Halo games. Halo 1-3's writing was fun and pretty decent because Bungie was self-aware that it's a corny sci-fi plot. Though now 343 is trying to make the series "deep" and it gave us some of the cringiest moments in gaming (when Cortana touches Chief at the end of Halo 4) and by far the worst plot in the series with Halo 5. 343 is not self-aware at all that people just want a fun sci-fi adventure, not a super soldier and his blue girlfriend exploring their emotions.

Final Fantasy VII is good but not great, and the story is pretty stupid. Not sure how controversial this really is but playing VIII has made VII seem worse, honestly think VIII and IX are both better games.

The Switch is just an ok console with no more good or great exclusive new games than the Wii U had and the only reason people forgive its amount of old games/ports is because of its portability.

For people who are mostly interested in new Nintendo games (and see the portability mostly as a gimmick), it is a very overpriced piece of old and not especially well built hardware.

Silent protags in voiced games hurt immersion rather than help it.

Link should be voiced and is a character rather than a player avatar (and has been for a while).

Horizon: Zero Dawn hero Alloy is an uninteresting, poorly written character and aside from good gameplay, the story and sidequests are incredibly mediocre.

His noticeable lack of research into these topics also contributes to why his writing seems so shallow and egotistical. I mentioned it before, but Kojima's knowledge of these subjects is as in-depth as a Wikipedia article. He thinks his commentary is insightful when really it's just a watered down Cliff Notes version of events or issues that is then stretched into a 2-3 hour cutscene. It's like he watched Kurosawa and Tarvoksky films then read Infinite Jest and thought, "shit I can do this too."

Season system in Diablo games can be frustrating and creates a separation between those interested and those not interested in restarting a character.

God of War 2018 is overrated and has frustrating fights. The power fantasy that defined the essence of the seriesis gone and fights are slow.

dark souls/bloodborne aren't revolutionary or good enough to warrant them being mentioned 5 times on every page of every thread. These ppl are just obsessed and can't go 10 seconds without talking about these games or theyll die or something. Like how ppl that like final fantasy never shut up about final fantasy. These bloodborne/dark souls ppl are the same.

videogames and videogame mechanics existed before demons souls/dark souls/bloodborne...and not everything revolves around from software games

Ni No Kuni sucked. I think people just REALLY liked the artwork and animation but not the game itself. The idea of the game was good but the execution wasn't.

Link should be fully customizable, including gender selection in BoTW2 and all next Zelda games.

God of War 4 is not a real God of War. It changed too much going from a Devil May Cry formula to an arpg with strong focus on story.Kratos feels nerfed, he doesn't use magic the same way he did before, devs changed too many things.

Sekiro is a bad game and From Software is heading to a bad place focusing in the "gid gud" mentality and "The Difficulty Developers". It started with Bloodborne's DLC and from there is downhill in Dark Souls 3, it's DLCs and Sekiro. The endgame bosses in Sekiro are pure bullshit in the sake of nothing and that's bad and I'm worried for the future of their games

Out of the all the Far Cry games, the fourth one is the best. It's Far Cry 3 with a better setting. Whats not to like?

It had the best setting, with a lot of verticality in the map, the best feeling of progression, and the best villain/story (not that the story is anything to write home about, but out of the all the unremarkable Far Cry stories this one stands out the most). And you can ride elephants.

On another note, while Far Cry 5 is still good, it takes missteps. While the series always had these intoxicated/kidnapped sequences, but getting kidnapped like 10 times just takes you out of the game. And, that ending..... horrible. Stuff like animal hunting feels sidelined, and after youre done with whichever boss you choose first, there just isn't the sense of progressing anymore. Its hard to explain

And the series, known for exotic locations its set at, takes that uniqueness factor out of the game and lands us in buttfuck nowhere in the middle of Kansas. Couldn't have chose a worse setting if they tried.

Games intended for large audiences are becoming increasingly worse for sacrificing progression reliant mechanics in favour of immediate satisfaction, trading ability unlocks etc. for outfits or other glorified skin-like content, for what I assume is fear that people won't play them if they need to work for things. BotW done it, Mario Odyssey gives you moons for doing almost literally nothing, I've heard from a friend the new Pokemon hands everything to you.

Imagine Metroid Prime 4 skipped the usual opening where Samus loses all her powers and you just had everything from the jump. "Here you go, go nuts!"

Everyone talks about the Wind Waker Triforce quest being bad and it's not great but the thing about that game that keeps me from replaying it are the two dungeons that are basically very long and cumbersome escort missions that you have to play a song to control the NPC so they do what you want them to do. They are probably the worst dungeons in the whole series to me

I tried to play RE4, and only got about 30 minutes in before dropping it.

Like seriously? THIS is the game that get unanimous praise and deemed the best game of the decade? Gimme a break. You cant even move while shooting.

I bought Outer Wilds the other day after seeing it start to populate on GOTY lists. I don't think this is a great game.

It has some neat exploration and discovery bits, but overall this game is kind of a snoozefest. Lot of reading, the planets are kinda blah. I'm probably going to drop it. Why is everyone so hot on it? I normally love discovery and exploration (like BOTW), but I just could not get into this.
