I got a moderate raise.

I don't think anything would change significantly, but I could probably bank about $500 a month which would be nice.

I'd absolutely start looking for a new job, I would have to quit searching for a house since it would be probably impossible where I live to afford one, even if it was a small ass 2 bedroom shack in a shitty town.

I wouldn't be in trouble, but I'd definitely have to re-evaluate different aspects and tighten certain purchases and lifestyle stuff.

That's double what most people in my country make yearly. I cannot fathom how people could complain about this amount, it would be life changing for most and folk on here claim this is half what they earn? Am I missing a joke?

Different costs of living in America.

It's difficult to think about salaries in a vacuum. 50k would be a very comfortable salary in my home town, but literally below the poverty level in San Francisco.

I'd have to move away if my salary dropped that much, and I live in a very modest 1 bedroom apartment.

This thread demonstrates the failure of macro socialism. Personally I'd be thrilled with the 8k pay raise.

I'd have a different amount of money than I do now, so I'd make lifestyle adjustments to match that new amount of money.

4th year school teacher. That's a little over what I make now ($47,000 a year). And that's WITH me taking a extra class.

So that's a going to be a somewhat significant change to my paycheck.

I'd probably have way more money to spend on useless crap and wouldn't have to worry about the bills as much.

I'll be fine as my wife by herself makes enough for a family in the Seattle area. Depends on the job I guess. If it's my dream job then my wife will support me financially.

Seattle middle class is around 200k earnings per household, so we'll be right around there.

would be a big pay cut for me. Prob wouldn't change anything for daily life but I would need to cut investment and travel budget

Oof... between state and federal taxes I lose roughly 35% of my paycheck to taxes (my county is tied for the highest county tax rate in Maryland). That would mean a $50,000 salary for me would be ~$33,000 actual take home. That's... that's not good.

The highest county tax rate in Maryland, plus Federal, Maryland state, Social Security and Medicare taxes would actually put you at $38,160 net if you made $50,000 gross.

That'd be a nice bump up for me. I'd probably not change my lifestyle, but I'd be able to actually build up some savings again and be ready for a big vacation sooner rather than later.

Due to the exchange rate that's pretty much what I earn in £ right now and I think of myself as well paid. Do Americans get paid crazy money or something?

Depends on Job... being a gaming forum, there are a lot of tech people and the big tech companies pay really really well for the engineers

I probably make 44k yearly now and this wouldn't be an all out game changer living in NY especially, but a big deal in helping me pay off current debts sooner, afford an upcoming wedding, and move. Just barely scraping up money for those goals right now.

Hmm...

I live fiscally conservative and work 81 hours per week so I'd bank most of it. I use 15k to secure three years of rent and relocate somewhere frugal like a suburb near Seattle, Portland, or Houston to find a better career while keeping my apartment as a fall back option.

Ive had $14,000 cash in my hands and not changed so 50 isn't turning me into a super jerk. I'd chill even more and buy 50% of a small dispensary.

I think that's about average wage here in London?
But I have never earned anywhere near average wage, so that would be a nice increase for me.
I think that is good amount to live a reasonable life.

I live frugally (but well) and manage save £450 a month on half of that, so £50k would just mean more would go into my savings.

My fiancee though would be over the moon as it would all be going into the wedding and would allow for some pretty extravagant stuff.

Well considering that I just got a job making this as salary going from 30k it's gonna be life changing. Waiting on my training date.

I would have to severely cut back on my saving habits. My spending habits wouldn't really change, I live super frugally. Well, I'd look to downsize on top of frugal spending.

Negatively. I'd be fucked. Would have to sell my home and probably downsize to a 1 bedroom apartment and get super serious about budgeting for my family.

edit: assuming this isn't some theoretical cap on my earnings forever, then I would simply quit my job immediately and go find another one that wouldn't cause me to sacrifice so much.

50k GBP is a huge boost to me. It'd be amazing.

It says converted, so that would be like 41,000 GBP.

It's a little less than what i make now. So not a huge difference. However, if I could make that much in the Philippines I'd be set.
