Yakuza Remastered Collection PC Impressions

Speaking for myself, long back when I first played it, as I recall the first level was really, really underwhelming. After a level or two it really picked up and became fucking awesome.
Yakuza follows the Ys school, there are no bad games just ones you might not like as much as others
If you've played the series before, you shouldn't have any trouble with 3, even on Hard from the start.

A bit off topic but a patch to restore the licensed music is already out for Yakuza 3, including the Don Quijote theme removed in all regions on PS4 due to the license expiring.
While that audio restoration mod is cool, was it necessary for them to also restore that problematic imperial flag looking Tamashiro Family crest and pin from the original? Just the audio stuff would've suffice. Also, 6GB? Jesus Christ all those "higher quality" prerendered cutscenes bloat the size like crazy. I wish the mod author gave you the option to download only what you personally wanted.
A lot of this stems from Y3 being the first game in the franchise for a lot of players, with it being released fairly early in the PS3's life.
Even though pretty much all these games have a slow-burn, this was more pronounced by it being focussed on the orphanage, rather than criminal shenanigans.
You've also got the bad localisation, which gutted a significant part of the side-content, and generated bad word of mouth.
It all worked to create a weird first impression. Now, I think the series picking up in popularity, people having proper context, and the remastered localisation, we'll see opinion turn.
It's 3. Not because they take too much damage, it's because they block SO DAMN MUCH. If not, fights against bosses can be really awful and boring.
But it's not a hard game, it's just to counter that.

Y0->Kiwami 1->Kiwami 2->Yakuza Remastered (3,4,5)->Y6 Song of LIfe (hits PC in March)
Main series order with new versions should be:
Yakuza 0 - Yakuza Kiwami - Yakuza Kiwami 2 - Yakuza 3 remastered - Yakuza 4 remastered -Yakuza 5 remastered - Yakuza 6.
0, kiwami 1, kiwami 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (coming in march), 7.
the remake of 1 was made specficially for people who start with 0, theres added stuff that helps connect the games better.
The one downside of starting with 0 is that kiwami 1 will probably feel underwhelming. As it is afterall a pretty faithful remake of an old ps2 game outside of the afformentioned add ons. Luckily it's also the shortest and kiwami 2 is great again.
Man the covers for the Remastered versions look bad, not just the quality of the character models (which totally look like ps3 graphics) but also how they did it.
They used the japanese covers of the PS3 games but added color since they were b/w.

I believe they pillarbox cutscenes but I think the other games have mods to remove them so I expect that will be the same here shortly.
It would be awesome if you could have a custom name per game, which would fix the sorting issues.

I asked for that in the Suggestions section of the Steam forums when the new library launched using the new Tomb Raider games as an example (RotTR>SotTR>TR) but the only reply I got was someone "correcting" me saying that Tomb Raider 2013 is TR 10, not 1.
Not a fan of the ports so far. At least for Y3, it can't do borderless fullscreen at anything higher than 720p(even with ini tweaks). Exclusive fullscreen starts all zoomed in and I have to alt enter twice in order to fix it.
Game publishers have the ability to properly sort the games inside their releases for ages. They just don't care generally.
Yeah, the Don Quixote theme appears in the original release of every Yakuza game the store appears in. When the license expired for the remasters I believe they just replaced it with ambient crowd noise.
