Here are my Yakuza 3 Windows 10 port impressions. Played for about an hour. Will update this post if need be.
Positives:
- Improved resolution of the text font, it's not blurry like in the other games.
- Certain characters use the full cutscene texture quality in-game so they look nicer overall compared to PS4/3.
- Some minor quality of life features were added such as remappable buttons, volume adjustment for music, special effects and cinematics and the ability to pause cutscenes. Controller sensitivity, ability to hide the HUD, etc.
- True arbitrary resolution support is also in. The game will detect 8K or whatever resolution you got configured on Windows which wasn't an option in 0 and Kiwami 1 since it didn't let you go up a certain resolution after 4K.
- Dodge was kinda broken on PS4, but it's now fixed here. On PS4, it was way too fast compared to PS3, likely something that was tied to the framerate, it now matches the PS3 version.
- So far, (bar that broken reflection posted earlier) the game has been visually accurate to the console version, haven't noticed any broken lighting or other visual shenanigans yet which did plague Yakuza 0's PC port at launch.
Negatives:
- Gonna get the big one out of the way and one that was already mentioned, the game has a 60FPS cap. No high framerate support at all unlike the other Yakuza ports really sucks and my biggest personal disappointment with the port even though it's understandable given the game's legacy roots. Maybe someone will figure out a mod, but I won't hold my breath.
- FOV slider is missing unlike the other Yakuza ports. Not a deal breaker for me, but still worth a mention.
- The game is more demanding than I though, I could not keep a stable 60fps at 8K on a RTX 2080 with the game maxed out, it was hovering mostly in the high 30s and 40s. If I disable SSAO and turn shadows to low, I mostly get 60fps with some dips at 8K. Of course the game runs perfectly maxed out at 4K. Game simulation is also tied to frame-rate so it slows down if you can't reach the target framerate which is either 60 or 30, similar to Resident Evil 4.
- I'm still noticing some LOD pop in even with the setting set to "Maximum"
Also wanted to note that I'm not suffering from the frame pacing issues that some people reported.
Overall, it's fine, but it's a bit of a mixed bag. This is a pretty straight budget ports with a couple of small nice features thrown in, but also missing some others that were found in prior ports. The games clearly have some limitations due to their legacy. We'll see if QLOC patches in some improvements after launch.
For someone like me that has played these games a hundred times before, I'm more excited to see what's to come from the modding community than playing the games again at its current state (but who am I kidding, I'm still gonna play the shit outta them anyways, lol). But for Xbox and PC newcomers that have never played these games before, I doubt they'll mind some of these shortcomings and the games are gonna be a treat, so for those people, enjoy.
