Good to know! I wonder if the delay was just a next gen timed exclusivity or technical reasons.

Good that they finally announced it. I'll get the PS5 version in a sale next year, have a lot of games to play until then either way.

Would be nice to know why there's a delay considering the history of the series.

Digital-only free upgrade it seems:

Sega said:
SEGA is happy to announce that Yakuza: Like a Dragon will be launching on PlayStation®5 in the West on March 2, 2021, following the game's PlayStation®4 launch on November 10, 2020. Once players purchase the digital PS4™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon at PlayStation®Store they are able to download the PS5™ version at no extra cost when it launches on March 2, 2021. The PS5™ version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also be available standalone on March 2, 2021 for $59.99, with commensurate pricing in EMEA.

Is the PS4 digital going to work on the PS5 right away, just upgraded later, or will it not work at all on the PS5 until it releases?

Good to know! I wonder if the delay was just a next gen timed exclusivity or technical reasons.
I would say technical/head start. It probably had no next-gen port but MS pushed for it and then it all got upgraded.

Hell yeah, I was afraid this would be a longer wait. Also, good to see the upgrade is included in the normal PS4 version.

Just get the PS4 version and play on PS5. It's not like Y7 is some mindblowing technical marvel.

Big oof. I guess I'll be playing it on PC then for the 60FPS, this timed exclusivity is bullshit though.

this is one of the weirder and more ridiculous timed exclusives I've seen...

the good news at least for all the other versions is that they've been pushed up to match the Nov 10th date

Digital-only upgrade, and 5 months delay for a next-gen port.

Bunch of jokers over at Sega.

It's funny how many people arguing tooth and nail the PS5 version wasn't delayed and Sega was just waiting for the official PS5 launch date even though it was very clear from their wording that it was not going to be day and date with the other versions lol

That digital only upgrade path is some dodgy shit. If you buy the disc you're stuck with the PS4 version.

Pretty sure they'll get shit for this.

Pretty sure they'll do a 180 and provide it for physical owners too.

Norway
I'm still on Yakuza 4 so whatever lol
This is a series I take my time with, almost at the end of 4 and doing all the side quests with all characters.

still out on ps4 in november so at least it's playable unlike other timed exclusives that won't be named here but obviously don't count because [redacted]. 🛐

Yeah well, MS clearly paid for some timed exclusivity and Smart Delivery then. This is ridiculous.

Could have been phrased better but the fact they hid this for so long and the history of the franchise with PlayStation. It's super shitty.

"Could have been phrased better" lmfao

Yes indeed, wishing the series to die because it's delayed on ONE platform it's perfectly ok.
