Always something in the news means their always on your mind when it comes down to buying I'd assume is why they are consistently pushing something out.
Yeah, but no DV.
Still - it has Dolby Atmos already and the Series X does as well at launch - Dolby Vision support will come later.
Edit: Ahh! You meant for Dolby Visionđź‘Ť
Any word on if you'll have to purchase the Dolby Atmos license like on Xbox One, or will it be fully integrated as an almost default option within the OS?
This is what I was wondering. Since it came from Dolby and they'd know, does this either mean PS5 won't support it and maybe do their own thing? ...or have support for it and launch later than Xbox (probably like a week difference like last time lol)? That's very interesting, as Dolby Vision is even better than HDR10. Wonder if PS5 will also support this.
Agreed. Not really sure what the point of Dolby Vision is on games, the whole point is that it's dynamic tone mapping but games are already dynamic tone mapped because well, they're dynamic. Walking through a dark cave with some lit torches and an open field on a clear day are already graded differently.
EvilBoris do you think there will be tangible benefits for DV in gaming over HDR10?Not really sure what the point of Dolby Vision is on games, the whole point is that it's dynamic tone mapping but games are already dynamic tone mapped because well, they're dynamic. I was once a non-believer such as yourself. Then I got myself a Samsung Q80R Dolby Atmos Soundbar to replace my aging 5.1 system because it better fit my budget then a full blown surround system to and I am now a believer. That thing is fucking great.Well I guess their marketing is doing the trick. I would try to listen to several "atmos" soundbars first before investing. Depending on what your set up is now, not all of them are going to sound "better" to you. They may sound different, but that's what happens when you have top firing drivers and hyped as fuck, crispy EQ curves applied to them. Also make sure there is actual content you want that is authored for Atmos playback(there isn't a ton).
What I'm saying is, fuck the man, don't fall for the hype, and research first so you don't burn yourself and waste money because honestly, you probably don't need to invest in one to get a better audio experience. And if your set up is not good, then there are far better methods for improving audio than a soundbar.
Is Dolby Atmos worth investing in, and can it be done for a decent price? Right now I just have a Vizio soundbar with a subwoofer.

That's petty coming from Samsung, even my bedroom TCL has Dolby Vision.
I've listened to the Q80R. I've listened to Atmos tailored content demoed directly by Dolby themselves on a Q80R. I still would save my money for something else :P but that's me. I'm not saying they shouldn't buy one. I was saying to make sure to shop around and research it a bit and actually listen to some first, considering the hype and snake oil marketing surrounding "Atmos" and "3D Audio" and all these other hype words.I was once a non-believer such as yourself. Maybe this gen HDR will actually be properly supposed.
Also wake me up when Windows 10 gets there HDR feature set/support together........
