Who was it that posted all that noise about Xbox execs (I think Matt Booty in particular) needing to be meaner and not congratulate Sony on their successes - especially because Sony people never do for Xbox? Cuz even then I was like.. I don't think that's true at all..

I remember those posts and well... since you brought it up, replying to a tweet and going out of your way to make a post congratulating someone like Phil (and the official Xbox account) does are different things.

It couldnt have been about Booty, he barely does social media.

It was about Booty bc it was the KFG XCast interview where he said something about Sony doing great with the blockbuster games and something MS traditionally has missed the mark on (IIRC). Phil has said similar things in the past I believe. It's those unprompted "props" that triggers some people for some reason

Pretty poor year, could only name 4 games as you've seen. Quantity =\= Quality worse year in ages, when it comes to the games I care about.

But as I've said there's still time to add some interesting games, early year is a lost cause unfortunately, hopefully digimon survive makes it at least.

You can't blame 2022 for your unusual tastes. It's absolutely stacked and looks incredible. I feel bad for you if you think 2022 looks like a bad year.

Is it from the cutthroat days of the Sega/Nintendo war? Some sort of left over from that maybe. They were quite open in their hostilities to one another. Or maybe certain people take it as a sign of weakness? Who knows. Companies being antagonistic to one another just seems so... immature now in this day and age.

Really no need to get heat up about me.

I'm not exactly a pandora box of negativity or anything, I simply like certain things, and strongly believe they are achievable.

By feeling this way, and knowing some xbox representatives sometimes read these threads I'm not going to dress what I say and feel with beautiful words and phrases, it's not like my level of English is good enough to be clever about it.

I've repeated myself so many times that it gets old, but anyone that reads me just needs to assume I dislike the vast majority or western games (not based on franchises I've grown with, like Star wars, Harry potter, LoTR or gears), there might appear something that catches my eyes but it's very rare, just better to assume I don't like any when I say something. Horror games and Souls like games.

Fun fact I kind like sports games, no time to play them and all the microtransactions are huge turn off but I played hundreds of hours of PES and Virtua Tennis games in my youth.

Racing games I'm more into arcade games, literally in the arcade(I miss them), like Outrun, super hang-on and such. those were the days, used to be on Soul calibur, the racers, time crisis every week.

So when the so called big '22 games are a bunch of games that hit the exact nerve of what I dislike, there's no way I can see it as a good year.

Reason I'm still kinda hopeful, and said my opinion can change earlier is how certain jp publishers are yet to really unveil what they have in store.

I mean I highly doubt publishers such as bamco (digimon survive aside that was clearly planned to be released by now lol) and sega jp got nothing to release next year, just to name a couple.

Well, now that we are making our tastes clear, I would like to say that Killzone 2 has better multiplayer than anything Bungie has created (Halo, Destiny).

In the end all my love for Killzone disappeared when Battlefield 3 came to my hands, but hey, just to make it all clear.

Thing I'm also looking forward too are all the new indie games we'll be getting on gamepass next year.
Just to name a few of my most hyped ones

I have no idea about that convo. I though cyrribrae was referencing former user True_fan who had a bunch of posts talking about how Xbox was too nice.

are you getting rune factory 4 special?

I've repeated this story a few times, on twitter at least, but it's legit.. I've never really cared for story of seasons, but rune factory is another story.

my early 20's self was super hyped back in the day when he saw this, twitted about it very often.

www.youtube.com

Rune Factory 4 - Opening

well this is the Opening of the new Gameand when i finally get the Game i will make Videos too ^^this Game is for Nintendo 3DS

Rune factory 4 had quite a weird story, both in development and in releases. The studio that made the game went under, I don't remember exactly what happened anymore, but the European publishing rights were a mess and the release was canceled. Then picked up way later as digital only, honestly couldn't be bothered with a digital only releases on the 3DS.. so ended forgetting about it.

Fast forward many years the switch port got announced, together with the 5th entry.. I was like this is will never hit xbox, better forget about it, so I was really happy when the port got announced even said it here, the xseed announcement at E3 was more hype to me than everything xbox E3 conference had, for good reason, wasn't trolling.. was legit delight.

There's a certain sub-set of people for whom the psychological scars of the 'used games instructional video' still lingers to this day.

Horizon looks real purty. Mexico was a great choice of location. Seems like it'll be a lot of fun, as usual. But fucking christ is the dialogue/voice acting cringey (as always).
Story, cutscenes, dialogues are always cringey in racing games. I went back to play some old NFS games and my eyes were rolling behind my head. They always speak in a way to try to hype you but it feels forced. It's like a staple of the genre at this point.

Man some exciting news has hit lately. I went from having almost nothing that I was interested in first party-wise from Microsoft, to now eagerly awaiting Project Belfry, the Wu-Tang game, and the murder/mystery title from Obsidian. Also curious to see what eventually happens with Everwild, as well...

I'll also give Starfield a fair shake next year, but I tend to not enjoy western rpgs and large open worlds. However, the two wrpgs that I did like, I wound up liking a ton in The Witcher 3 and Mass Effect 2. I was looking forward to giving Avowed a shot, as well, but I think the 3 hours or so I played of Pillars of Eternity recently was the most bored I've been with a game in a long time and knowing that it's set in the same universe...has promptly killed any interest that I may have otherwise had. Have to admit that some of the artwork that's been floating around for the game has been amazing, though.

Yeah, there is a really healthy Xbox fanbase in Mexico so I'm glad they got a celebration of culture. I play Gears a lot and there are so many Spanish names that I assume are Mexico players. They love Gears. Kait Diaz is another thing that was probably borne from Mexico's love for Xbox. So I have them to thank for that as well.

Yeah, a big % are Mexico players. Also always around the top of the most played games on the Mexico store. I've played against them a lot of times myself.

Supposedly, I was told, the Spanish dub(Latin America version) got some really big names and helped with the popularity.

Anyway, gears alone makes xbox super popular over there, reason enough to not kill the ip.

I believe XO was held in Mexico a few years ago right? Very cool for the Xbox community in Mexico re. FH5

Horizon is doing two things for me. Making me wonder just how good Fable's map is going to be and the changes to the driving model that for surely will trickle over to motorsport and most likely be expanded even more. Seriously...the way Playground uses elevation change on this map is a sight.
Chris talked about the physics of Forza Motorsport before a few times. More details in the article.

"To put the physics work into perspective… the changes we made from Forza Motorsport 7 till now, is more than the changes we made from [Forza Motorsport] 4 through [Forza Motorsport] 7. It's basically a huge generational leap coming to the game."
www.techradar.com

Forza Motorsport is a ‘huge generational leap’ from previous games – here’s why

And yes, the game is officially called Forza Motorsport

Honestly i kinda want them to hold off on FH6 until 2025, give them even more time to revamp the formula so it doesnt start to suffer from far cry disease
I don't think FH6 will need a revamp of the formular, if FH continues to grow massively as a franchise. In my opinion revamping the game could result in most people not enjoying it and then the franchise declines for no good reasons. Never change a winning team.

I think having a longer release window again will be good. I think 3 years are enough, though. Forza Horizon 4 got updates for years and I expect the same treatment for FH5. Which means a new FH doesn't need to come out in 2023. If FM and FH get 3 years from now on, then I could see and want Xbox to add another Forza franchise to the lineup.

I always liked the idea of a kart game that's using kart forms of real life cars with some Xbox characters in the game. Could be definitely interested, although I am not sure if the game Forza would be used for such a game. Another option would be a rally game.

Return of the king next year

Hopefully he gives some interviews, I miss his passion lol
Chris Esaki is the game director, so I'd imagine he will (continue) to do the talking about his game. I like Chris, but I also liked Dan and miss his passion as well.
Xbox's 2022 is going to be amazing.

Starfield by BGS

Redfall by Arkane

Josh Sawyer's murder mystery RPG

Forza Motorsport

Stalker 2 timed exclusivity

Grounded 1.0 by Obsidian

+ a few things we don't know about like maybe Wolfenstein 3 and something from Xbox Publishing.
Strong list of games and we probably get one or two surprises. 2022 looks like the best year in gaming, when I consider all the publishers.

I would kill for a Lost Odyssey 2. I know it will never happen because there is no one to do it, but the main Lost Odyssey battle theme came up on my playlist today and it made me instantly hyped and also sad at the same time.

Damn, a backwards compatible Gears 3 charting in the top 50 most played in 2021 is crazy, they sure love their Gears over there. I wish I was better at the MP, but still love the campaigns

Grubb on TGA timing for Forza. Makes no sense IMO, it's still early November like damn. Would be a shame if it didn't get nominated.

yeah, I really don't know why you guys are dogging on Taigo since i'm almost the same as him as i'm not that excited for some of the games in 2022 like elden ring and others.
This. Everyone has a different taste of games and this should be a accepted imo.

I think FF7R could come to Xbox soon. FF7 is leaving Gamepass and the Chinese Xbox leak happened, which seems to suggest the remake is coming to Xbox. Maybe I am delusional, but I think there is a chance.

As far as XGS & Beth goes, its not the strongest lineup and Im not that hyped for Starfield. If I had to guess, Ill end up liking this year and 2023 a lot more but it we will see.

Admittedly, without Starfield I wouldn't be half as hyped - that one carries a ton of sway for me. Several others seem promising, but I'm so stoked for Starfield.

If something like TLOU2 was releasing November 5 I guarantee they would have held off. It's just the nature of the genre where it just isn't top of mind for something like this so no concessions are made to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah games released up to Nov 19 can be nominated, the game is being reviewed 2 weeks before that. If you can't submit your votes up to at least that day and have them counted, that's a problem.
It seems to be a problem with the way Gamesbeat themselves decided to do it. There was probably no advocate on the team for holding off on doing their nomination process until FH5 came out so that was that.
TGA seriously needs to work on their nominee timing then. I get that December games are to late. But now even November is to late?
I think this is on Gamesbeat.

I literally do not understand why publications would have sent in their nominations already.

"Games eligible for The Game Awards this year must be available for public consumption on or before November 19, 2021."

Why would they not turn them in on Nov 19 or 20th?

Seems like it is TGA's problem, actually. Why the fuck would you cut off two whole months, one of them being the busiest month of the entire gaming year, like this.

Has a November game ever won GotY from them?

Feels like we are entering a golden era for gaming - tech is driving quality games, services are driving accessiblity, competition is driving innovation
Yep. I guess a similar growing feeling has been present for years now, but it really feels like we are close to a point where innovation and artistic vision in game development really has free rein.

And when it comes to services, I've been a bit skeptical about GP as a business model, but it really feels like one of GP's biggest unique benefits will be how it gives indies and just different kind of games a chance for spotlight, and that's just great.
I find it hilarious that we have our own PlanetSmasher in this thread.
Haha sometimes I wonder how do people like PlanetSmasher or Tiago Costa find the time and energy to pour all that negativity onto message boards lol.
So hilarious.

Like really, maybe that's just how they feel? They probably aren't doing it to annoy you. No one is naming you here or trying to silence you either.

Xbox community is going to keep getting bigger here and might be better to accept that folks have differing opinions. This just can't be a place where you're only allowed a collective cheer.

How is it bullshit, if they haven't played it, they haven't played it.
The award is called game of the year and not game of 3/4 of a year.

The system is broken, because holiday is huge for games and TGA ignores two major months. Sure those games will be available to be nominated for TGA 2022. But who will remember this rule and who will nominate a 12 month old game when newer games are more in the mind of journalist? Nobody.
