Even just the thought of being able to play Halo Infinite next week is making me crazy.
Lmao same here honestly. Ever since that gameplay demo last year I have just been so damn excited to play the game, it looks so so fun honestly
whether it comes true or not, fun rumor are fun, so fingers crossed
Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel too honestly, as well as the fact that it's not like we have to wait so long
The time is alittle early compared to when ms normally announces things
It really depends honestly, some stuff like the Bethesda acquisition and other news blog posts have been announced at 6am PST

No idea, the only context I have is the studios that were "in scope" of not being included in wb games, for whatever reason, no other context, another reason I didn't report it. Just came up in conversation on the show, I made sure not to imply ms was going to buy them, because I have no evidence to suggest this was ever the case. But I can see why those rumours might have emerged based on this legal doc.

I'm obviously not asking you to reveal your sources or tell us things you can't, I'm just kind of curious how a document like this even comes into your possession without you being able to verify or decipher any kind of timeline as to when it was actually created? Not doubting its existence or that you saw it, I'm just confused is all.

For those who were already in the insider stuff from MCC, still update your DXdiag for PC, they check drivers and windows versions.

Still, doesn't make sense why WB-Discovery would offload Netherrealm, like why? I mean it's your most productive studio out of WBIE. And who'd buy NRS if you don't get Mortal Kombat rights (since WB has said that MK 2021 film has outperformed AFAIK no chance they give it away unless a huge sum).
You offload your most valuable asset if you are trying to make as much money as possible and don't plan on staying in the gaming business long term. AT&T got a ton of debt and do they care about AAA gaming?

So I know we like to talk about acquisitions and what not, but I'm thinking that the best way for MS to grow their Game Pass content library is to enter into partnerships with different publishers and getting multi game Game Pass deals. Similar to EA Play being a part of Game Pass and the rumored addition of a lower tier of Ubisoft+ but also getting games on day one right away.

Imagine if MS made a big deal with Focus Home Interactive to get a lot of their bigger games (like Plague Tale Requiem, already launching day one on Game Pass) onto Game Pass day one. Stuff like the inevitable Greedfall sequel or some of their Warhammer games would be pretty big gets in terms of positive press while also likely pretty cheap to get onto the service

The takes are reaching ridiculous levels again. First, Jez is not an "insider", he is a reporter doing his freaking job. Stop using this term, you are using it wrong.

Second, if he says he saw documents, then that's a fact, no matter what you, as an entitled gamer demanding binary information, think. He clearly never said this will result in anything, no one ever did, it's just the typical "let's jump to conclusions" syndrome that exists here every time. I saw the document as well, it's legit, but whether if it was old or whatever is something I don't know.

Third, and I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated, Xbox getting more studios is not an if situation - it's when. This is official information available to anyone. It's common sense. It's common knowledge.

Fourth, everyone in here, including the people criticising him now, happily took his info on Contraband, IOI and so much more. Some of the statements I'm seeing now here have a hollow ring as a result.

This forum seems to have huge problems lately creating proper quotes by industry people and reporters. I also see allegedly statements by Jeff Grubb quoted here all the time, which, if I take the time and actually check the source, don't exist in that form or are so heavily changed that an opinion is suddenly inside information.

All these people don't owe you anything. They are doing their job. It's up to you individually to ignore them if you don't believe them, but as soon as they have an exclusive scoop, you will come back crawling again anyway.
Heh. Well said. I understand when people are tired of leaks and rumors. But in this case where it seems that simple truths and facts were reported, I find it hard to understand why hate and accusations are flying.

Yep. The reality is when people want acquisitions, what are they really asking for?
So, I think one thing that this perspective misses is that acquisitions are more than just about access. Exclusivity is not the end all be all of platform value, and I personally rue that we treat it that way. Exclusivity has almost no value to me. Exclusivity sometimes justifies increased support, resources, and care - so, exclusive games may be of higher quality. It's a matter of perceived value.

What conveys perceived value more than an acquisition? It doesn't always work out this way, especially over the long term, but I think acquisitions can be very good for games and the people who play them - being hooked into the hardware in a different way, having a more careful focus, sometimes more free reign to take risks, simply better support and more resources.

Essentially, I'm asking for better and/or riskier games from the portfolio of games that I know are guaranteed to me via Game Pass. It's as simple as that. Whether or not that game is exclusive or not is nearly meaningless to me, personally. Do. Not. Care.

No idea, the only context I have is the studios that were "in scope" of not being included in wb games, for whatever reason, no other context, another reason I didn't report it. Just came up in conversation on the show, I made sure not to imply ms was going to buy them, because I have no evidence to suggest this was ever the case. Thanks Jez. Part of the problem with the subject matter around M&A and even Game Pass and other contracts is that a lot of it seems to be pretty technical. Do we even have the context to know what "out of scope" and "in scope" mean here? Is it a common term in mergers? Is it just a term that WB or Discovery is fond of? So many times, most of us are simply ill-equipped to discuss these things fully and correctly - even when they're reported truthfully.

But anyway, I think you handled this well, overall. But I often have to remind people that you report on WC, speculate on podcasts, and troll on twitter. Weight accordingly lol..

Good work mods, why people are losing their minds over insiders (who have an excellent track record btw, thanks Jez and Grubb) is completely unnecessary, I'm happy with the info/direction they provide into the inner workings of MS, even if it's not always accurate it's a lot more informed then the general discussion here (forum).

Exactly I don't understand why ppl get so angry over this stuff, it's called rumors for a reason, not guarantees lol Take everything with grain of salt an just have fun discussing the probability, if true yay, if not so what, move on.

Hey Xbox dudes, I don't want to take up another thread for this, but I really need your help.

My Xbox controller stopped responding. I turned on the console, and it seems to be working all right as far as I can tell.

But I changed the batteries, turned the console and controller on and off, pressed the pair button, connected it to the USB port on the console, nothing. It just flashes.

I'm not sure. I haven't played very much this Summer so this could be something really obvious I'm missing.

Any ideas?

The less people obsess and pay attention to the acquisition rumors, the better. The Zenimax acquisition happened completely out of the blue--none of these "insiders" knew a thing about it, despite it being bigger than any acquisition Microsoft can possibly make now.
I really hate that the insider culture so often creates false expectations that only lead to disappointment.
Case in point:
  • Avowed, a new Skyrim-like RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe
I think "Skyrim-like" description should be removed from the OT until Obsidian themselves state something like that. According to Phil, Avowed is very different from The Elder Scrolls, so putting unverified information into the OT like this will likely just lead to certain expectations and disappointment, no matter how great the game is, and I think it's unfair to Obsidian.

So, apparently Windows 11 has messed with the way entitlements still work with regards to Windows Store games and thus Game Pass PC. My Game Pass ran out today, and being the cheap bastard that I am, I decided to let it fully expire so as to be able to take advantage of the 1:1 conversion rate when upgrading to Ultimate (or 3:1 in the case of EA Play) when not currently subscribed. Anyway, my Game Pass Ultimate ran out today, and yet I can still play all of the games that are currently installed on my computer through the Windows store, even though I'm not currently subscribed to Game Pass. Just thought I'd let you guys know that as well, and I'm also going to tag OscarK because even though I don't think that's his department because he can probably notify the correct people

Anywhale, back to enjoying Dishonored 2, which I thankfully installed this morning after having beaten Dishonored 1

Edit: Three reboots later and it seems that I no longer able to access the Game Pass PC games installed on my computer, though the UI still shows that the games are playable. Sorry for the tag, Oscar

It's fun to speculate about things and do a little bit of armchair quarterbacking about what we think all the companies should do. The problem is when people start taking that speculation as a given and expecting it and then becoming enraged keyboard warriors when it doesn't happen.

Like, I feel like most of us sort of expected Forza Horizon 5 to be announced for a release this fall, and it was, and spending this spring talking about Microsoft's fall line-up as if FH5 wasn't going to be a thing wouldn't have made a lot of sense, since it (pretty transparently, IMO) was going to be a thing. But if it had been announced for Q1 2022, it wouldn't have made sense for everybody to lose their shit about it, either, since it was never promised.

It's best to just sort of take everything with a grain of salt, and to be realistic. Was Microsoft going to have something other than Halo Infinite this fall? Almost certainly. Were they ever going to release Wolfenstein III and Forza and Halo and Starfield in four successive months this fall, like I saw some people suggest? No.

What's everyone been playing?

I've been working my way through Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and will be for the foreseeable future, and I've mostly been having a really great time with. I never got around to playing Origins or Odyssey, despite hearing a lot of great things about them, so Valhalla feels very fresh to me.

Here's hoping we get some more Ubisoft games on Game Pass going forward so I can dig into the others.

I'm really enjoying quantum break, like the gameplay gimmicks more than control. The live action story bits are actually quite engaging. Finished act 1 today and watched the video after the gameplay bits, definitely motivated to keep playing.

I'm popping back and forth between a Morrowind replay on my Series X and Persona 5 Royal on PS5, haha. Gotta keep both controllers handy.

I may dive back into Star Wars Battlefront II soon as well. Maybe I'll go with Xbox for it to change things up a bit. I logged a fair few hours into the game on PS4. If I happen to find that the Xbox community is, for whatever reason, noticeably slimmer, I guess I'll download it onto my PS5 instead.

I was playing Dishonored DE and I finished that this morning, and I started Dishonored 2 this after noon and will likely be playing that for the next week or so.

Also reinstalled COD Cold War on my Xbox, been playing the Zombies mode on that but it's not as good as the old one and split screen performance is rough

random thing, but is anyone else finding the lack of quick resume as a detriment to playing games?

I started Metro Exodus recently, and I really am enjoying it, but I'm.......kinda struggling to play it with the lack of quick resume. Just love the convenience of quick resume letting me dip in and out of games, that when it's gone/not supported, it just really sucks.

I still keep hoping and crossing my bingers that Borderlands 3 eventually has it, because in my 3 months of owning it, it hasn't been added yet. That game is the epitome of something I want to dip in and out on the fly, and it's just idk.

Quick resume is such a double edged sword for me, because I love it so much that a game not supporting is a very big negative for me.

i've had that problem before it's basically a sync issue with the controller and the way i fixed it was to keep trying to pair for a bit and if that doesn't work turn off the xbox and have the controller off then turn it back on manually and turn on the controller too at the same time and they usually sync back and also make sure you have updated your controller firmware too.

Started playing Outriders again this week when I learned that they finally patched in control options in late June. It feels great after lowering the aim lag. That was really the only thing holding it back for me, now its a ton of fun. PFC is on a roll, Bulletstorm and Gears Judgment were tons of fun too and Outriders has elements of both.

I straight up don't want to play games without quick resume. I'm like "ugh, im going to have to deal with splash screens and loading up the game every goddamn time".

I just wrapped Doom 2016 for the first time, it was great. Figure I'll now give Eternal a shot.

... and with the kiddo I'm playing Ooblets, which is just delightful (and doesn't involve removing ANY demonic organs...).

I'm doing my first Nightmare run of Doom 2016 as we speak. Figured I've had my ass kicked enough in Doom Eternal that I could probably clean up pretty decently in Doom 2016, after remapping a few keys to their Eternal keyboard counterparts. Also upgraded my GPU and it 2016 runs at a flawless 3440x1440 ultrawide, Ultra settings at 600fps which is like 🤯🤯

So I don't normally like to post these things, but the guy says it'll be revealed tomorrow so I figured why not, about 14 hours of believability. Reddit post says that 343 will announce Halo Infinite multiplayer flighting tomorrow at 6am PST, so take that as you will since it's just some guy posting it with no real evidence

Man this would be incredible. Please be true.

So I posted an early version of these two days ago, but Eagle-eyed people might have noticed I changed them a few times. And then even made more tweaks after that that I didn't bother posting. But now they're done. Done done. For real. I think.

Nope, I know. No more tweaking. I'm walking away from them now 😂
…unless I just decide to add a bunch of stains to make them look old. But I'm not doing that anytime soon.

I know what you mean. The last three games I've played, Metro Exodus, Doom Eternal and A Plague Tale have all had quick resume disabled and I'm really missing it. I don't know what the reasons are for not supporting it on certain titles but these have all had a next gen update and I hope it's not going to be a thing going forward that a load of games aren't going to be QR compatible.

TT Games always felt like an odd acquisition because even though they seem like a good studio they've spent the last 15 odd years making LEGO games and you probably wouldn't get that license if you were planning on making those games exclusives. It'd make more sense for a third party publisher like 2K, Activision, EA etc. to pick them up because they'd be able to get the LEGO license and just keep them working on those.

Absolutely! I loved Bards Tale IV. When the combat clicks everything falls into place. There's a bit of a learning curve to it, but I like how strategic it is.

It's unusually strategic, because there's no grinding*, so battles are balanced around you having a certain amount of experience, with no way to go beyond, making them fit in extremely well with the overarching puzzle theme. They're the smaller strategic pieces that break up the larger puzzles and I think that's one of the reasons, why some fans of the classic series weren't happy with it. They wanted it to be more like the originals and while the themes, story and mood certainly invoke the classics, the new game is basically a puzzle game like Talos Principle or The Witness with RPG elements tacked on and twisted to become puzzles in and of themselves.

It's a remarkably coherent game if you accept that premise, because it manages to invoke that overarching theme in every element of it's design, from the regular segmented puzzle rooms to the battles to further exploring the Metroidvania-like structure.

Everything is a question of how do I solve this?

* I'm aware it's possible through glitches to enable grinding, but that isn't the intention of the game.

And yeah, the soundtrack is god tier. Allow me to post this yet again.

As soon as one of the battle themes kick in I'm right back there, ready to make my move:

And even when they go for a more regular ballad, it's still thematically on point:

What's everyone been playing?

Just finished RE7 and its free DLC, I'm now playing Gears: Tactics and I just finished the first act. Playing it mostly through xCloud in bed at night. I can't say it enough, it's a pretty great game for using xCloud with the Razer Kishi. Turn-based games in general remove any latency problem, and you definitely get that "one more turn"-feeling before sleeping. Cool game. Might be too long for its own good, though, I know it will.

I also play once a week coop with friends, and currently we're doing the Gears: Judgment campaign for the first time (somehow never played it despite playing every other Gears titles) and discovering Minecraft: Dungeons. That game is much better than I thought.

I really really hope Xbox starts adding DLC to Game Pass, something like 6 to 12 months after their release, because Minecraft Dungeons seems to have some pretty cool environments in the extra content.

I've been working my way through Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and will be for the foreseeable future, and I've mostly been having a really great time with. I never got around to playing Origins or Odyssey, despite hearing a lot of great things about them, so Valhalla feels very fresh to me.

Yeah, they're all great.
Finished Odyssey recently 100% with DLC and it was awesome, but still way too long.

I can't imagine playing Valhalla anytime soon.

thanks dude!

yeah, like i said on the show, the doc could be old, but it also lists playdemic as being in scope for sale, and ea bought playdemic, which for me raised the possibilities of the other studios being up for sale too.

i never said ms was buying netherrealm. i never said ms was buying TT. all i said was i had documentation that suggests to me that at some point wb games was looking to offload netherrealm and tt, as well as tt odyssey and playdemic mobile studios, neither of which i had even heard of prior to getting this documentation.

the inability to verify the age of the doc is why i didn't report it on windows central, where im quite proud of my track record for pre-release accurate information, since it's what we're known for there. podcasts are for discussing random rumors, snippets of info, possibilities, and speculation, etc. for fun.

i know a lot of people here hate me, i see it in my DMs a-plenty. but i wanted to defend myself on this one, since klobrille so kindly stepped up to do so. thanks.

Also glad to see you and Rand are back to podcasting, and that Rands feeling better!
