Does it stick and stay pressed or something else?the reddit megathread still has people getting fucked up A buttons after 4+ exchanges..
I'm going to hold onto mine, which has a bum A button, until MS makes some sort of announcement.
Really sucks that this thing is a paperweight until then
Does it stick and stay pressed or something else?
Keen to understand the common issues so can start the testing/returning when it hits.
In my experience, they're very responsive provided that you press the buttons firmly. Press them lightly and who knows? While it wasn't a 10% failure rate, I dropped inputs frequently. Simply doesn't happen on any of my other controllers. It feels a little spongy and 10-20% of button presses don't register

I also see more and more reports by buyers complaining that the RB/LB are registering inputs multiple times on a single press. One of the best performing Fortnite controller pro's Unknown1x just switched back to a V1 because of this issue, with one of the top European players saying he had the same issue and switched to Scuff. This was after Unknown initially already went through a lengthy process of finding a normally functioning one.Someone made a video on this missed input thing that I have seen in every single controller of mine. It is not exclusive to bad controllers, I believe each controller has this, if you look for it.

I see. Damn. Yeah I also do not want to mess with this thing on my own. Like you said, I should not have to for $180.I also see more and more reports by buyers complaining that the RB/LB are registering inputs multiple times on a single press. One Reddit user disassembled his/her controller and said he/she kind of fixed by taking a out a piece between the little switch and the button. However, I think it's not necessary to say this shouldn't be something you'd have to do on a $180 Controller, nor am I a sure this won't cause other issues in the future.
Back in November I promised my V1 to a friend by the end of February. Even when I returned my Series 2's I thought 'no way they won't have it fixed by then,' but I'm starting to get worried. Especially since there hasn't been any update by them or reports by press outlets.

Yep, mine is having the same issue.Anyone run into the left stick click feeling off over time? I've been putting some amount of hours into a few shooters, and I'm finding the left click to feel mushy or soft. Compared to the right stick, which doesn't see nearly as much use in most of the games I've played, it doesn't really make any kind of clear, audible clicking sound. It still seems to register an input, but I really can't tell when it does versus when it doesn't.
In a game like Modern Warfare, where clicking the stick twice makes you sprint faster, I'm finding that harder to activate than I did maybe a month ago.
Ouch. I think I might ask for a swap come next week then. Doubt it'll magically fix itself over the weekend, but I think I still rather a few games over the weekend with a slightly busted Elite controller than a regular one.
This gives me hope that I can find one with responsive buttons! So I bought a new one today. Tried 3 at the store, all from newer lotnr's (>2001) and this one was the only acceptable. It still has the harsh sound when putting the triggers on the shortest stop which really irritates me, but apart from that and a "loose" right stick it's ok I guess. At least no sticky/unresponsive buttons or a lot of drift right out of the box.
The reason I bought one now is that I promised my V1 to a friend a long time ago and he was really disappointed last time I saw him and told him he couldn't yet have it. I guess I am now just going to go from controller to controller every two weeks until I can find a perfect one.
Reading through this thread is making me regret ordering one of these when I got my tax return. :T Really hope it works okay when it arrives.

If it's any help, I am now on my 13th, yes I tried 2 more since my last message here as the one I was almost satisfied with developed drift within a couple of days. The only issue this one has is a slightly grindy feeling when squeezing the right trigger on the shortest stop. The rest of it is fine (Lot nr. 2003).
It's crazy I had to go through all this trouble since it released in January, but all of the newer controllers I tested (2001) had only small faults (out of the box). I notice them because I've now tested so many, but most people will probably find some of the faults acceptable. Mind you, I don't think they should for 160-180 dollars, but some still will.
I still want to change this one due to the grindy feeling, but since it's the best one I received and all of the ones I tested had this issue to some extent, I'll keep it until it gets worse, or until it starts to develop other problems, like the drift mentioned above.
Good to hear, thanks you two. Honestly I'm used to a bit of jank - my original Elite Controller has always had some slight drift on the right stick in games with high sensitivity, namely - so as long as my controller isn't too bad, I don't think I'll mind it too much. I was just worried about all the talk of the A button not registering, etc. Fingers crossed that GameStop ships me one of the newer units and it doesn't have too much wrong with it.I got one a few weeks ago from Amazon and it has been 100% fine!
Good luck but they arent really any better fixing and replacing these, I have spoken to several people that have had 5+ of these including myself having had 8. I have had controllers send to me that were worse than the ones I had before that. You will not get around the issue of A not registering input at certain angles, every controller has it. I hope it will not bother you, but it did for me.Just bought mine today 😬 from the online Microsoft Store just to be safe, as I heard that they are a bit better fixing and replacing Elite controllers with issues...
This is easily the most "money VS known build quality risks VS need" thing that I have ever bought...wish me luck...
Yes, I'm aware of the A button issue (I've been checking this thread almost weekly) and should have mentioned that I am hopeful that with the way that I hold a controller, I'm hoping it won't bother me as much, but no way to tell until I have tried in a bit unfortunately 😓Good luck but they arent really any better fixing and replacing these, I have spoken to several people that have had 5+ of these including myself having had 8. Hopefully it will work properly outside of that one and you can enjoy using it atleast.
Hello! I have a question.
I'm probably going to pick up one of these in the next couple of weeks, but I use the tall domed stick for my right stick on my current Elite, and after watching some videos, I see that the series 2 doesn't come with one. Does anyone know if there are any good quality third party replacements out there that can replicate my current series 1 experience?
Also, are the bumpers more hardwearing? I've already fixed my LB once, and it's recently broken again :(
The Elite 2 has a tall stick. I'm not sure it's the one the Elite 1 had though!
This is what it looks like!
As for the bumpers, mine are absolutely fine! Have zero experience with the Elite 1 though.
So my launch Elite 2 is now going in my premium trash can. My RB/LB buttons double click the majority of the time and the worst part is it's been doing it since I got the controller I just didn't know it was the controller. I only ever saw the double clicks happen when moving tabs on the Xbox menu and I chalked it up to a bug in the OS code since I am in the preview program. Now its gotten worse to where it's interfering with gameplay and it's just not worth using. Now there are way more important things going on in the world right now and replacing my controller isn't close to being one of them, but I figured I can't wait any longer to at least try. Comparing this experience to the ones I had with my Elite 1 is night and day. With my Elite 1 they acknowledged the issue and I paid shipping for a refurb controller and I couldn't have been happier and this was almost 9 months after purchase. This time I was told that they know of the issue with launch Elite 2 controllers but it was my fault for not reporting sooner. I guess it is my fault but it was also strange for support to say they acknowledge the issue Iam having as a manufacturing issue and just not care. It was suggested to me that I remap the RB/LB buttons to other buttons which was kind of insult to injury as anyone who buys this controller isn't expecting to have to do that. So now that my sob story is out there I just wanted to ask am I alone in this or has this issue shown up on people who didn't even know it was an issue till it's now too late? I am also not suggesting to not buy this controller since it's awesome, but I will suggest to check EVERYTHING when you get one. I unfortunately will not be buying another one
Thanks, but it's specifically the domed tall stick I'm after - from what I've seen, the domed stick that comes with the Series 2 is short.
The Elite 1 issues were pretty widespread and as for the Elite 2 I was told by support that its past the 3 month warranty and as the support tech put it "he wishes I could have realized the issue sooner". Not sure what info I'd be leaving outI feel like you're leaving out important details as to why it's not being sent in for repair.
I general it sounds like you have awful luck to have this as well as issues with the launch series 1.
I used a straw that somebody here recommended early on. Haven't had issues since and I've been using it almost daily.I used a toothbrush to fix my unresponsive A button. Works like a charm now. There was a lot of black glue stuck in there.

Yeah I thought about fixing it myself but i also asked the tech if I attempt to fix it and Microsoft decides to extend the warranty like they did with the Elite 1 could I still return and I was told opening will void the warranty lol the same one I apparently don't have right now. I really wish I was making this all up. So yeah i guess it won't go in the trash I'll use something in the meantime in hopes there is a reversal and if not by end of summer I'll try and fix it. I am going to miss the back bumpers allotThe warranty window is just for free coverage though right? Can't they still repair it?
I'd just buy a repair thing for the bumpers off eBay/amazon and fix it myself personally. Super quick and easy to tear them down and reassemble.
Or just sell it to me on the cheap and I'll fix it lol. Finding alternatives to the trash bin.
