If they target only 1080 they would require less ram. However that does mean it will look worse then a series x or ps5 running on a 1080 TV. It shouldn't hold anything back. Just add additional work on devs.
It would effectively be no different than Switch games having docked and portable profiles.

You are confusing different things. And mix official stuff with rumoured stuff.
In terms of TFs it'llbea lower number, but those TFs will be more performant than the One X, so it'll be stronger on GPU. This also isn't taking into account the RAM and the MASSIVE leap with the CPU and SSD.
The Lockhart 4Tflop Navi GPU would be around the same, maybe slightly more powerful than the 6Tflop Xbox One X GPU.
I don't get the complaints about a lower spec machine. 3rd party devs have to optimize for weaker PC's is anyway.
Because Lockhart won't need to hold 4k textures on memory, hence why it can get away with having less RAM.

Also how you know to which resolution to drop if you don't test? This thing is going to have games aiming at 1080p-1440p you know.
It doesn't make sense to announce it without a price. That's its main selling point. Also if PS5 sells the digital for $400 they can't sell lockhart for $350.
It'll probably be saved till after Sony announces the price of PS5. The whole point of this thing is the price, so they'll want the announcement to have the biggest impact possible.

No I see that, I made a mistake and thought Anaconda was the orginal Xbox One codename (that was Durango) but I'm not sure why there would be 3 modes. The Xbox One X dev kit had two modes: Default (One X) and One S mode. The Scarlet has 3 modes: Default, Anaconda, Lockhart. Why the 3 modes if it's just Series X and Series S

You don't use RAM just for textures. There's a lot of more implications about less RAM. But, no reason to be concerned until we see actual specs.
A 4tf RDNA GPU is roughly on par with the One X's, Lockhart is RDNA2 so it should be at least modestly more powerful.
$299 is fair if it has an optical drive. It will be a popular home theater device just like the X1S is now
Ok that aside, lets say the positioning here makes clear it is an afterthought. XSX is "The" Xbox console.
As I said if it released, noone will buy it.
It's not like it's going to be a massive drop in RAM, it'll probably be 12gb in comparison to XSX's 16.
I don't expect then to cut it in half, but wouldn't be surprised to see a couple GB come off. They should know what they are doing based on their experience with XB1/XB1X

That would be if MS takes the Disc drive out of the XSX and releases a no disc XSX, which 100% they will at some point of course.
It makes sense if DE PS5 was 4TF. PS5 DE is the same console.
The fact we have heard about Lockhart for the past 2-3 years makes it hardly an afterthought in Microsoft strategy.

The system is weaker than the XSX, but it's still full of modern tech so being half the price doesn't seem reasonable to me.
I think the 3 modes are full devkit specs (likely 4 extra CUs activated), Anaconda (52 CUs), Lockhart (whatever it ends up having).
The X devkit used to be similar, not sure why X mode is no longer present in it.
It'll be the highest-selling Xbox SKU. Next-gen at $299? Home run.
Especially thanks to the recession. An affordable entry point to next gen could be huge.
Well most of the time PC ports of console games are a disaster.
Most games on the console space aren't designed for scalability.
I don't really think you can expect the XSX to drop by $100 in less than a year after launch. And even if that the case (big if), then the lockhart would also go down in price accordingly. Look at how much an Xbox One S All Digital cost right now compared to an Xbox One X.
That's why I said, let's wait. 12gb is still a drop in level of detail, but not major. 10gb would concern me.
