It's become so prevalent that it's become clear that some of the reasoning for this societal trope is cishet folks wanting to disavow themselves of institutional homophobia because it's now (in their minds, anyways) just an issue for LGBT folks to sort out amongst themselves or something and that there's no further need to dismantle heteronormativity.

It is not a good look and it overlooks the fact that, even when it is the case that an extreme homophobe is homosexual, the issue still stems from a culture of homophobia and that the said homophobe is also a victim of this culture.
Also just because someone is in same sex porn does not mean they are gay. Lots of people do things for money that they would not otherwise do.
