Mr. Mullenweg said his company intends to maintain the existing policy that bans adult content. He said he has long been a Tumblr user and sees the site as complementary to WordPress.com. "It's just fun," he said of Tumblr. "We're not going to change any of that."
touch a person's porn and they'll go to war
Definitely Digg. That lasted like what 2 years? Tumblr was strong for at least close to 5.
Is there a worse deal than going from $1.1B to $3M in 6 years?
No reversal of porn ban, Tumblr is still dead. What's the point of Tumblr if they want to maintain this dumb ban that nobody likes. I'm sick of these puritan tech companies.
Democratizing publishing, except if you want to publish titties!
Congrats to David Karp and Marco Arment (and I am sure others) who made out like bandits on Yahoo's idiocy.
Don't mess with someone's porn. I read an article saying Tumblr traffic had a giant drop after they banned porn, and it has just kept dropping at a slower rate since then, great business strategy guys to "not change anything"
And Woj hasn't worked there in a minute.
It would be so easy too. But oh noes, tiddies and dingles.for $3M, someone could buy Tumblr, restore the old rules and resell it for a healthy profit
Out of curiosity, what currently is the best repository of porn gifs anymore?
The fact that Tumblr made it so easy to find certain gifs is sorely lacking on other sites.
I just opened up the app today to see how people were reacting to the buyout and feed still had plenty of pornbots. And the thing is... there's still a whole lot of porn on tumblr. It really seems they've given up on any moderation the past 6 months.
Serious question: if you bring back the porn, where's the money going to come from? I thought that was the problem, advertisers didn't want to advertise if there was risk of porn, and you couldn't even integrate with search if you didn't know what was adult and what wasn't.
