Oh man, I remember reading a story about moderators that would have to review all sorts of sick shit (like Child Pornography, rape etc), and it drove most people mad. Not sure How big of a job that is for you, but there could be mental health issues.

I would but I'd follow the advice of my university lecturer who was a porn cameraman and that would be to not put it on your CV if you're going for a "normal" job.

Fun fact they used to use prostitutes for ADR and one was a client of an MP who enjoyed doughnuts thrown over their winkie, and would jerk off whenever one went over the "goal"

Sounds like the benefits are what really makes the package work.

As long as you're not dealing with the hyper dark stuff all the time, I say go for it. We all gotta get paid in order to live. Ain't nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah, after having worked closely with people who are in charge of trust & safety for major platforms, I would not work in a role where I'm required to review bad shit that happens on the internet. It's too fucked up. Plus, good luck getting hired by other companies after this gig.

Pretty cool honestly. Only problem is the mostly informal nature of most casting and sometimes even production can lead to alot of drama between some performers and producers.

I have people in the industry who I once considered some of my closest friends who I now wouldn't talk to if you paid me because of the drama they would create behind the scenes.

But 90% of the time the experience on set or in the editing portions were always really fun.

The best you get is with performers or producers who don't really take anything seriously the second the camera is off. They can be some of the most fun you ever have.

But some people will that even the slightest bit of popularity go to their heads and then become complete jerks to deal with.

It was actually the reason I quit one of my photography editing jobs. The guy who owned the company started making some decent money and suddenly he was a total asshole to deal with. Told me I had to wear a button-up shirt and slacks on set because "this was a business."

This was despite the fact that for the first 6 months I was there everyone dressed casually and no one cared.

i personally probably wouldn't want to work in a porn-adjacent job, but i don't have a problem with those who do. this specific job you got hired for however sounds absolutely awful. i feel like having to consistently see "the dark side of humanity" as your recruiter put it would be incredibly depressing. or you'd just become numb to it which is equally as sad.

The industry itself? I probably wouldn't mind too much as long as it's fairly removed from the actual subject matter. I hear that in terms of tech, porn has some of the most bulletproof/robust architectures you can find in software because it gets a ton of traffic and is likely to be full of people trying to circumvent their systems. Similar to how casino/gambling software needs to be bulletproof.

Tech-wise, I imagine that working with this industry probably wouldn't hurt your career much because tech skill is tech skill, regardless of where you learned it.

As for this job in particular, the biggest thing that gives me pause is mental health. Just the chance of seeing things that you don't want to see could wear on you over time, not to mention actually seeing them. I wouldn't be surprised if a job like this has high turnover because of it.

It does sound like you have ways to alleviate the stress by contacting higher-ups if you're not sure of something, which is good because it means you're not entirely on the hook if you're not sure which call to make.

If the pay and conditions are good, I'd say give it a shot, but be mentally prepared for the possibility of changing jobs if it's not your thing.

I already did. I used to review porn movies for a pretty huge adult industry news site.

A job is a job, and I got to hang out with porn stars, who, GASP, are people like anyone else. Unless it's a shitty company that treats its employees like garbage, I don't get the handwringing over working in the adult industry. The demonization of sex and people that work in the adult industry is ridiculous.

Oh, I remember I kept it from my mom for a few weeks, but eventually realized there was nothing to be ashamed of, and told her what I'd did for a job. It was pretty hilarious, actually.

With it as you describe, it wouldn't be all that bad. It's not like you're mopping the floors at a video house or the fixer for shoot locations.

To be frank, you probably stand more of a chance of seeing some vile things, but it sounds like they have a reasonable vetting process (that you'd even be a part of) so exposure to it would be minimal. working for a web host isn't all that different in some regards.

You gotta do what you gotta do to pay the bills man. If they aren't involved with sex trafficking and the models are working out of their own volition who cares?
this is my take. if it's a legit site (many cam sites are not) with men and women (not girls and boys) then sure, why not? If the duties are limited to what you've described that is fine with me.

I currently work for a company that some in this country look down on(Not porn). By comparison, a porn company is actually safer.

If it paid well (which compared to what I'm getting now is unquestionable), hell yes

Hell, working for a big one like PornHub would actually be really cool. Imagine bringing that up in conversation, it would be amazing xD

Plus it's 2019, people are way less judgemental about that shit these days, I mean pretty much everyone watches porn

I did some IT work for a modelling agency and film/tv casting agency at one point, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they had connections to that world.

So I called my recruiter up to talk about the concerns I've been having, specifically the exposure to "ugly stuff".

He told me he had placed about ten people doing the same thing I'll be doing, and they haven't reported any complaints at all. Most of them are still working, a couple got promoted in under two years, and he says they've all been very happy with their jobs.

I was very transparent with my doubts, and he assured me that he would never have me working a job where I'd have to be exposed to heinous shit on a daily basis. It's still a possibility, of course, but such things would be a rarity, as I expected. He said at worst I'd be seeing idiots shooting themselves up, which I don't have a problem with. Fuck up your body all you want, just don't drag children into it.

So that put my mind at considerable ease. I feel a lot better, but am still going to have my guard up during this training period.

Why the hell are you not being told which company is hiring you until you are hired? Even if this is being done through a third party recruiting agency, you should immediately know the company that you are seeking employment with.

That's the big thing I'm hesitant about.

If it's mostly dumb shit like someone shooting up or typing hate speech most of the time, that's no big deal. As for the big soul-destroying stuff, once again it depends how often I'd be exposed to that. I didn't want to ask about an exact metric if it risked making me look too squeamish for consideration.

The big fucking irony here is that this job sounds much closer to my Criminal Justice background than the IT career path I switched over to. I think having that CJ degree even played a big role in getting hired.

I can tell you for certain that I've always been paranoid about webcam interactions, and now that I know for sure that there are people monitoring your activity at all times I don't want to go anywhere near it.

Pay is between 35-40k, negotiable after the first month of training (which is $15 an hour). Full benefits are included too, including dental.

Between that, the free meals and the commute, yeah it's a pretty good incentive.
Bruh

Personally, I'd be there in a heartbeat. Dental is amazing to have.

Can you report the people you're reviewing to authorities if they do something against the law (bringing in minors, etc.)? If so there's some sort of power to that where you can consider yourself making the porn industry safer and more consensual?

I suppose there's no harm taking the job and then ditching if you find the organization is contributing to unethical practices.

I was told the company name, just not the name of the website they manage.

One of my very first VR business ventures was in teledildonics. I was working as contract labor for a company that produced a mechanical vagina to make VR applications. Their mechanical vagina was previously used for 360 degree porn that was meant to be seen on a monitor, but obviously once VR came around that changed their business model. They shut down before we released our product over a patent dispute, though.

So yes, I basically have already.

EDIT: Hell no to your job description, tho.

A job's a job. The Hong Kong branch of a major German event planning and management company that I worked at had a branch manager that worked in porn.

Does the company have a legitimate-sounding name?

I'm not sure if you are really going to want to list "Pornhub" on your resume once you start looking for your next job.

This. Even then, google exists for the non-obvious ones. I'd look for work elsewhere, personally.

I don't think so. Really scummy industry and the dark side of porn is really really dark.

I have nothing against porn and I'm sure there's plenty of companies on the up and up, but there's also a lot of really shady, sad, exploitative companies as well that it's pretty risky.

There are entire fields that I would never work in. Porn is not one of them.
Hell, there are some jobs that I'd literally choose death over.

The company I used to work for has tested adult games (someone has to), but that's the closest I've gotten to it.

I've heard that it's one of those industries that's hard to leave once you're in, since it doesn't look great on your resume for future, non-porn employers.

You really would be surprised to find out how many freelance graphic designers out there have done work for porn whether it's an actual production or just for cam girls, myself included, they're some of the best clients to work with!

I mean I worked at Yahoo! and at the time one of their biggest revenue streams was adult content ads which Google wouldn't touch.

Multimedia, LLC is the name. Google doesn't immediately out them as a porn-owning company, so it should be safe to put on my resume.

I start tomorrow: I've been a nervous wreck all week but I feel a bit calmer now that I'm approaching the first day. I like to think once I get a feel for what the day-to-day activities are like I'll be nice and settled.

Out of curiosity, for those of you who responded as worked/working in the industry (saw scriptwriter and other jobs listed), how did you find those jobs? They tend not to get openly advertised, so I'm curious.
