I think that comment came specifically from Nagoshi and now that he's no longer part of RGG studio or Sega so maybe there's a chance?

I don't think they'll change Kiryu's character just because Nagoshi left, so... I think that'll stay as is.

Probably would make more sense to have Ichiban in Tekken 8 instead. They could also borrow some Baseball moves from Negan.

I'd support this. And I don't even really know who Tifa is, but being matched up with a Noctis makes me wanna put my controller down in disgust

They only go "too far" when shitty ones are included at the cost of good ones, such as Kiryu and Tifa. <3

Man I'd kill to have them both in the next Tekken.
You know it'd be all kinds of hilarious if he showed up in Tekken before he did in an actual Capcom fighter lol.
But anyway, Kiryu probably wont show up... though maybe with Nagoshi no longer at Sega that might change... though Id much rather have Ichiban included (but at least Ichibrad in VF5 made my dreams mostly come true).
Tifa would be a cool addition, though I cant say I really say Im a big fan of her character.

That was Nagoshi's stance, who has since left SEGA.
Would much rather have Tifa in Soul Calibur than Tekken, a series that hasn't had a hand-to-hand fighter since borrowing Heihachi for SCII and could certainly use such a high-profile character far more than the franchise that overshadows it and gets all of Bamco's resources. Not particularly interested in trying to play Tekken again for its own sake, either.
Console-exclusive characters died off years ago, namely due to the fact that they can't be played at tournaments.
If we got another FFVII character in Smash, I'd rather it be Barret. He'd be a unique zoner if FFVIIR is used as the basis, plus Smash desperately needs some melanin.
