And with the ongoing pandemic, i wondered if PS Home would have been a great place for some gamers to socialize while at home.
If Sony did some improvements with it of course.

Was it a missed opportunity or a waste of effort if they re-release this again.

I feel like right now is a ripe opportunity to create virtual social spaces. I wanna meet up with my friends at a virtual bar and play some pool, maybe some darts, yknow.

VR Chat is fucking huge. If it had of been integrated into PSVR it would have been a hit.

I was so excited to watch movies and stuff in the theater. Never ended up touching it once..

It probably could be around Rec Room levels of popularity if they remade it and modernised it I guess? I don't think it would be 'a huge hit', no.

Gamers socialise in games like Fortnite and Warzone and stuff or in Discords. They don't need to load up some wacky Second Life knock-off to do it.

It got boring really quick, but the potential for something more was there. Perhaps as a hub world where you could meet people interested in the same games you are and you could launch into said games direct from Home.

This is something I think about quite frequently. PlayStation Home was actually entertaining towards the ending cycle and a great way to make friends online. PSVR would only enhance that experience.

I miss Home. I wasn't a heavy user at all but I loved checking out whenever there were new spaces or mini-games added. Also loved the trailers in theaters.

The characters were pretty hideous though, would be better with Toro & Kuro animals or Sackboys or anything cuter and less realistic.

Potentially, especially when you see the amount of traction that things like VR Chat get. The social aspect of online gaming on consoles has come along quite significantly since 2008, so I do think it'd have a chance of doing better now.

Home was a great idea they should have expanded on rather than shutting it down. It was really clunky due to the limitations of the PS3.

PS Home would be a killer app for PSVR 2. Aony has to bring it back. Besides we live in the era of microtransactions. That shit would make bank today.

If the characters were more stylised and the whole thing was faster moving, it would be possible I reckon. Maybe if it was free but PS+ members got discounts on virtual items it would be a pretty good space for users to meet and interact, but I imagine the moderation would be a nightmare.

VR Chat does what Playstation Home was trying to do far better than PSH ever did. And VRC's average player count on Steam has been going up pretty steadily since the pandemic started.

I think pretty much every alternate reality game is ahead of it's time. There is clearly demand for these types of games, but I think they'll never be able to reach the level of a MMO or social media site until VR becomes more mainstream.

PS Home with user creation tools and VR support would be the best option for it becoming popular. Imo

Apparently, PS Home was a quiet money maker for Sony for a long time. Never really some smash hit thing but it lasted as long as it did cause Sony actually made money off of it.

I could definitely see PSVR Home being a popular thing. Especially now with people just looking for excuses to chat with their friends.

the model always had potential but Sony botched it hard, honestly speaking I expect vr chat to become the next big thing in the future.

I wish they'd reimagine it on PS5 given that the extra power and faster loading would make the experience a lot smoother. There were actually a lot of cool spaces to check out, but it took ages to get in and out of them.

No because it was supremely ugly. Same case with All-Stars Battle Royale. These sorts of 'all ages appeal' social games need to be in that same inoffensive simple art space as Mii's, Animal Crossing, Farmville, and Fortnite.

VR Chat and Second Life and all that are huge despite being 'ugly' simply because they can be modded within an inch of their lives so you can see the oddest shit jammed together in the metaverse. A console version probably wouldn't allow for that.

No because Sony hasn't bothered to advertise it. I don't even know what it is, now that I think about it.

I think it could be a hit. They'd likely have a different art style, closer to Destruction Allstars which would help. With the SSD the different worlds would load in an acceptable time. If there was a version for psvr I think that would probably push it over from kinda popular to hit.

PS Home with PS5 visuals, instant loading and potential PSVR support and ya'll think it wouldnt be successful?
It was already a success on PS3...
Crackle would 100% be on the personal home spaces, Spotify would probably be added as well. Home would be dope in 2021.

I think it can work.

More cartoony characters, VR, a suite of fully fledged minigames with their own interfaces (Chess, card games, etc with tournaments), events, scavenger hunts, etc.

IMO my biggest problem with Home was the long load times but I wouldnt mind screwing around

I would say yes but it needs space for people to create content

Dreams + PS Home = maybe good idea

Doubt it. People would probably try it out, novelty and all, especially if it were free and a new app on the new consoles, but I don't think anything could have saved Playstation Home or really made it culturally relevant like some other super popular games.

Turns out people would rather play a game and hang out in it then specifically play something where the purpose is to just hang out.

Ps Home had whales. Like people literally paying $20 for a virtual costume. This was before Fornite.

Home was huge. People who never used it are used to dismissing the service.

It would be huge if they somehow make it platform agnostic. The way they killed it after the PS3 gen was shady. Not sure how gamers were ok with all their purchases being erased.

I feel like it would for a few reasons
. The PS4 and PS5 are powerful enough to really deliver on the original promise,
. I feel like integrated games would work much better thus sustaining it better, stuff like the Siren mini-game was so good but premitive imagine what you could do on a PS5.
- with the PS5 load speeds imagine how fast you could go from a social space for something like Destruction AllStars ->match-> social space
. PSVR integration

I think youre wrong

There are tons of people who liked and spent money on Home even if they werent a majority. I think instant load times and tons of support can make it a huge hit especially with this streamer culture we have

They need to make the art a little more cartoony IMO but not too cartoony.

The biggest hang up it had was the poor frame rate. It made it not fun to use. I had high hopes for the PS4 to make better use of it. So it wouldn't need soooo much data streaming for assets and not be a low-FPS mess.

Instead they just killed it.

Just because YOU didn't use it doesn't mean it didn't have a HUGE following. It was huge. Companies didn't make those sponsored worlds just because they wanted to.

It was a a grand premise kneecapped by technical hurdles. A decent art direction and the instant power of the PS5 would do wonders for it. It's a shame Sony never has any intention of trying it again- wasn't it pretty profitable?

I definitely think it would have done a lot better. It could have been a flavor of the month pandemic era online game people fucked around with for a few week and then moved on from, like Fall Guys, with the right marketing/word of mouth.
