So. Question for everyone here. Have not been into my switch for a few months now. Collecting dust. Was going to sell it and put the money towards possibly a series x. I have a ps5 and have been absolutely loving it. Do you guys think it is worth to have both? Too much overlapping? Just don't care for gaming portable on the switch, when I have a c9 with sonos setup. Appreciate everyone's opinions

If you don't have a "good" PC, yes. Maybe not now, maybe not in two years, but eventually. With Gamepass, I would find it hard to not recommend the system with the games coming down the pipe.

I got both, could have easily gone with just PS5 but I wanted to sell my X1X while it was still worth something.

I only have actual new games on the PS5, but Quick Resume is really great on the Series X and it's great for backwards compatibility at the moment with some native 4K enhanced games from the X. Unlike the PS5 it still plays two generations back of games. Gears 5 still looks like a new game. I'm sure there will be a lot of good stuff coming in the future. At the moment, it's not worth it for multiplats like I expected.

I wouldn't sell my Switch for it.

I don't see a reason to get both consoles this early into its life. If you are into the idea of Gamepass and didn't have an Xbox or PC last gen then there is a ton of good to play.

Yes absolutely! And keep your Switch too! It's the best having every console :)

If you don't have a PC, sure. Otherwise, a PS5 + decent PC is all you need to play games you want if your Switch is already collecting dust.

As someone who currently owns both, I would say No.
I do not regret owning both, but do realize I could have just gone with a PS5 for now.

Now? I really don't think so.

If you don't own a PC you can get a Series X when exclusives are out, and it will probably be cheaper.

I skipped on Xbox One but my PC is showing its age and I like the idea of anyone I know with an Xbox having access to the same library of games on Game Pass. It is also more convenienct just using Game Pass on console.

Make a list of games you would play on the Series X. If that list looks good to you, then get it. If not, then don't.

The Series X is nice but there really isn't much to play on it for now that you can't also get on PS5. With Gamepass its nice playing Destiny 2 (latest xpac free with gamepass), Gears 5, Halo MCC, Tetris Connected, etc all with Gamepass but none of them are killer games to me, maybe its different for others. Honestly not really a killer game on PS5 either but I'm trying to make that my primary machine.

The series X is definitely sexy and more "beautifully engineered" than the PS5, and gamepass ultimate is amazing just to hop around a big library of games you may not buy yourself, but for now my X is mostly off while I play Demon Souls and PS4 games I never finished.

I don't think the value proposition is really there yet for the Series X, or at least a game that you would want that you could only play on a X (even if there is a PC port).

Depending on your game buying habits a gamepass subscription alone could save you enough money to basically make it free so yeah I Think it's worth it.

Other than exclusives on switch and PS4 I've bought exactly one game in the past 3 years which was Red Dead Redemption 2 (which eventually came to gamepass).

If you own a good PC however than an Xbox is completed redundant and not necessary.

Sure I think it is well for me anyway.

Ps5 for the exclusives and whatever bc titles from Ps4.

Series x to be able to continue with bc and not be forced to play titles in HD that aren't meant for it (well not exactly forced but it's annoying that with Ps5 you have to constantly go into settings if you don't want your display looking strange due to forced hdr on sdr content).

if ur not already entrenched in both ecosystems....and/or don't care about BC...then idk.

i get both xbox/playstation every gen. At this point idc about the xbox exclusives, but i much prefer their machines/services/controllers/ecosystem. But i luv playstation exclusives so im doomed to own both till the end of time.

Since playstation technically has most of the same games i play on Xbox.....and i prefer PS exclusives. I in theory wouldn't need an Xbox. But they've been very good to me as a customer. By giving me tons of great games tied to my account via GamePass/GWG....and at least half of my 360 games still working on their newest console.

So far, no. I got both on the same day, and I haven't touched my Series X other than getting it set up. I've platinum'ed Astrobot's Playroom and started playing God of War 2018 for the first time though.

If you don't have a good gaming PC yes. If you do but want some of the GamePass games that aren't available on PC yes as well.

I have both, and honestly I don't know. I feel like now that I have both I could have probably just waited on the X, all I'm playing is older games on it anyway. It's still nice to have, Gamepass while not something I use often is still good to have also.

I got a Ps5 and was pretty sure I was gonna upgrade my ageing pc. But then I thought that getting an Xsx is way cheaper than upgrading a pc and should offer decent performance for the next couple years.

So ended up getting an Xsx and will consider upgrading pc end of 2022

i have a pc AND a series x on top of a ps5. gamepass on pc =/= game pass on sxs. more games on console game pass. if you can afford it? fuck yeah do it.

I goth both.

As someone without a PC and only so much disposable income, I was able to get both the PS5 and XSX for less than what an equivalently specced PC would cost me to build in my country.

In a few months, yeah. Right now, I don't think there's enough differences between the two systems for it to be worth it.

If you already have a PS5, I would say wait until the Xbox exclusives start rolling in before you get a Series X.

do you guys think its worth it over switch?

absolutely depends if you like nintendo games or ABSOLUTELY LOVE portability

switch gets few third party stuff and when it does, its technically speaking the worst version of that game

i love nintendos first party IPs so its a must for me. but if you dont? nah. portability alone is not worth it imo.

I think you'd get plenty out of owning both, OP. If I had enough spending money right now I'd be tempted to do the same. Game Pass is phenom. Full-on backwards compatibility is a pathway to many old games some consider to be... unnatural.

(Palpatine dot gif.)

I'm going with the PS5 first because there are some more immediate-future perks involved; FFXIV running more smoothly, FFVII Remake hopefully (cough probably) getting an update, Demon's Souls Remake. A few more things.

But the Xbox Series X is certainly on my 2021 queue. Probably not until around year's end? It's where I'll want to be for things like Dragon Age going forward since Origins and 2 are both on Game Pass alongside Inquisition. And of course, it's also going to be my Elder Scrolls/Starfield machine. And Obsidian machine.

It's cliche given where I work and all but RPGs truly have mapped out my next-gen future, ha.

If you can find them and have the money why not. If you have a nice PC then you don't really need an Xbox. If you don't, then Game Pass itself will pay for the Xbox over time. Especially if you do the Gold to Ultimate deal. If you like the PlayStation exclusives, as of today you need it for them. Maybe they'll go PC too though.

I have both, right now I say yes to PS5, reasons being it already has several quality new exclusives, Demon's Souls and Astro's Playroom are must plays, the first year line up looks insane, DualSense and loading make a tangible difference, and it also has the best versions of multi-platform titles.

No to the Series X right now. If it's not the best place for multi-platform titles, given there are basically no new exclusives, until some more first party titles or exclusives release, there's little point unless you want or need to play Game Pass games at better settings, loading times and framerates. Get the Series X in a year or two plus save some money in the process.

I have both, yes get both. I have only touched my ps5 for Astro though, since I'm scared that Spider-Man mm will kill my system and I'm playing through Valhalla on series x right now.

I have both consoles with zero regrets. Like you, I only had a PS4 last generation, so GamePass is giving me an overwhelming number of games I have never played before. My daughter just finished Astrobot on the PS5 and then asked me to switch consoles so she could return to playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps on the XSX and our 77" LG CX. The game is absolutely stunning on this tv.

What games have you tried on your switch? Trying a new IP or genre you're not used to can help open up the library for you.

i recommend Donut County, Stardew, Celeste, and Hollow Knight

But I'd say you don't need to have both XSX and ps5 now. Ps5 is the only one with meaningful next gen exclusives that we know of right now coming in the next 12 months. Xbox may have more than halo (crossgen) and Forza by end of 2021 but we don't know yet, most of their other game's seem like 2022 titles.

that's why I'm keeping my One S, just to play Infinite eventually

What would you play on it?

Answer that and you'll have your answer. There is no correct yes or no answer other than personal tastes/belief.

I have both (no PC) and the combination makes sense imo

PS5 for the exclusives, Xbox for everything else.
Wasn't planning on getting an Xbox but then I heard about 80€ PS5 games.... and the gamepass conversion trick.
I have a Switch too for exclusives.

Thing is, I can afford these consoles without sacrificing anything important. Not everybody can.

If I had to pick one It would probably be a PS5.

The problem is that Xbox is so very inexpensive. The Series X, assuming you get 5 years out of it, could function as a Gamepass machine only. All the AA, older third party, day 1 Bethesda and MS stuff, you never have to buy ever again.

Multiple consoles and pc means you get to play the best of the best, entirely your choice, but likely won't have time for AA or GaaS time sinks.

Switch lineup was kind of muted this year, with all the delays and the pandemic. If you enjoyed games on it before, though, i'd wait a bit longer before selling it.
