Long wait for food leads to Mother's Day scuffle outside Red Lobster in Pa.

Long wait times for food on Mother's Day spark a confrontation outside Red Lobster in Springettsbury Township, Pa.

A backlog of orders led to an altercation outside a Red Lobster in East York, Pa., on Mother's Day.

On Sunday, May 10, a video captured a few Red Lobster employees forcefully ushering a patron outside the restaurant's main entrance. In the video, the customer demands a refund several times before swinging at an employee.

...

As far as what kicked off the incident, Beam said that from watching the video, "She was upset because her food wasn't ready. She wanted her money refunded."

Beam said that the restaurant was closed to patrons; only employees were allowed inside.

"That restaurant's closed; you're not allowed in there," he said. "My understanding is all food is brought outside of the building."

1. I feel sorry for that waitress who will probably get fired for defending herself after Karen takes a swing.

2. I continue to be baffled why people on the East coast waste their time at Red Lobster. There's seafood places all over. Red Lobster is for middle America places like here in Colorado where it's the best we have.

Yeah sadly that employee is probably fucked. I would have lost my cool by that point too.

So many people putting themselves at risk to deal with one fucking out of control asshole.

Those poor workers. People suck.

But also: "The Red Lobster restaurant had a presumed three-hour wait for food, according to another bystander overhead in the video. "

WTF. For RED LOBSTER?

This is not going to have a happy ending. That waitress is fucked. I really hate humanity sometimes.

They seem chill about it:

That said, we do not tolerate violence for any reason in our restaurants. We expect our team members treat our guests with respect, and we expect our guests to treat our team members with respect in return. We are grateful our Manager and the guest involved were not seriously injured in the incident on Sunday."

I feel like I've been asking "What is wrong with white people?" more frequently these days

I guess people were craving those Cheddar Bay biscuits? I make them at home, personally. Fuck all that.
If I ever went down the dangerous path of buying the cheddar bay biscuits to make at home I fear all I'd do with my day is eat biscuits

I could tell this was near York, PA based solely on the accents.

"We way-tit three owrrs fer fooood" sounds just like Baltimore.

Central PA is called Pennsyltucky for a reason.

Good. Under normal circumstances there should not be much tolerance for putting hands on a customer like that but these are obviously not normal circumstances. Customers breaking distancing guidelines is fatally risking the lives of employees. They shouldn't have to stand for it when it gets out of control like this and their employers should have their backs.

Why should the employee lose the job? Should they do nothing and be abused?

At least before this new COVID era, she definitely would have been fired for striking back at the customer. Not saying it would be deserved or not, but striking a customer even if they were getting physical or stealing shit would be grounds for termination in pretty much any service job I've ever held before. I've had to fire someone before for hitting a customer that threw a plate at them.

I like the woman saying "You have people waiting three hours for food!" Bitch, you're choosing to wait that long... for fucking Red Lobster. No food is worth that wait to me.

People that are assholes to employees just doing their job are the worst people.

Specifically because they know that they can't retaliate in any way without putting their job at risk. Corporations typically don't protect their workers, they throw them under the bus just so they want the money these festering assholes bring in. Its a super common occurence for this to happen in retail and service industry jobs.

Waiting 3 hours for Red Lobster is some shit, but I imagine that rural Americans don't have many options. Violating the "don't come in" curbside pickup order is absurd. Just call them up and tell them to cancel, you don't have to walk in and physically confront the manager to assert your rights as a consumer.

The waitress physically escorting the customer will probably be fired. The resolution to customer's violating shit like this is to call the police or have dedicated security.

I've been wanting to try making chicken wings with cheddar bay biscuit mix as the coating before frying.

Is that a stupid idea?

Can't they order from home and pick it up when it's ready instead of waiting outside? Hope that waitress doesn't lose her job over that, that lady was out of line.

People need to learn to treat their mothers to a nice meal a few days before Mother's Day or to just cook her a nice meal.

I'm sorry but if you mom's reward is take out with a 3 hour wait or (when things reopen) sitting in a crowded ass restaurant with all the panic and chaos - that just sounds miserable.

I've never been to York but do people really talk like that? Why is the middle of PA so fucking weird.
School districts barely an hour outside of Philly still give students off for the first day of hunting season. As someone who went to school in an inner-ring Philly suburb we all thought those districts were weird, but it's a thing lol.

I hope she isn't fired. It's the middle of a pandemic and that woman was rushing in there with no mask or anything, putting the workers at risk.
