Pro-tip, if you are going to even bring up the Oscars, try to pay attention to movies outside blockbusters. And if you aren't going to do that, why bring up Oscars at all?
It has to be around 2B after next weekend to do it me thinks.
"some movie we never heard about" is something someone who only watches like 4-5 movies in a year would say.
agreed although I do think people are overhyping Pikachu a bit. It will be successful but I don't think it's going to crush like people think.

I can't believe I'm saying this but there is a solid chance Endgame beats Avatar WW. Pure insanity.
DOM is CW with 2.28x. I'm still flabbergastted by how low that multiplier was, but I guess that movie was seen as a filler.
WW is harder to know because Marvel used to do staggered releases. I think they'll do WW releases going forward. Especially with piracy nowadays and how easy it is to stream bootlegged versions.
Speaking of CW though, I think CM has a shot of passing it WW, which is saying something.

Endgame is a far better movie than Infinity War. And Black Panther is better than either of them.
Doesn't that record not mean a lot when GTAV cost $60 on release? Box office grosses would sure look a hell of a lot different if they charged $60 a ticket.

How does it do $2B by it's second weekend and not pass Avatar? I guess we'll see how this plays out but man, if it's already knocking on Titanic's door by next Sunday this is going to be damn close.

RDJ 100% deserves a best actor nomination. If Johnny Depp got one for Captain Jack Sparrow RDJ should get one for Tony Stark. Performance is iconic.

I though TFA was teaching what was possible with an opening weekend. This is beyond any expectation I've had.

Detective Pikachu is the summer's biggest wild card. None of us truly knows what it's going to do other than it will probably be a success.
Avatar 2 has to overcome the significant challenge of there being zero cultural memory of Avatar. Effectively, no one really gives a damn about it, but Cameron has done more with less so 🤷🏻♂️
I'm sure you know that plenty of politics went into deciding the winner right? :p I do believe or at least heard rumors that Roma was seen as the far superior film by the Academy, but you know Netflix and all...
