LOL. Yes, that was the craziest and dumbest narrative out there. Every time a single superhero movie struggled we'd see some idiot try to resurrect that idea despite the overall market still being dominated by superhero movies.
Next year I suspect that two or three of the following will fail: Dark Phoenix, Joker, New Mutants, Hellboy, but the others are all guaranteed big hits (Capt. Marvel, Shazam, SpiderMan and Avengers). I'm sure we'll hear that narrative once again.
Joker definitely isn't bombing. I don't think the budget is high enough for that to happen. I honestly think that film is going to blow up.

That isn't my personal top 10 haha.

IT's the 10 highest grossing movies of the year.
Well I was too then!

It's on track to be the lowest grossing Harry Potter film, critically it didn't do well, even it's audience score was a B+ which is showing a downward trend (Where to Find them got an A).

Gonna be curious to see where they take the next one, probably try to push Jude Law as Dumbledore more. Although they are probably going to double down on Grindelwald and Credence... blegh.

The may still do 5 films, but I wouldn't be surprised if they drop down to 4 films if the 3rd continues a downward trend.

I personally believe they're going to try and stop the slide by mixing things up a bit. I loved his Harry Potter films and enjoyed the first FB but I think it's time to move on from Yates and continue the FB series under a new director.

Man.
That's crazy.

I finally saw Aqua... it was just okay. I don't understand the hype for it.

Bumble should have done way better. Amazing movie.

With Fantastic Beasts' weekend take it enters Top 10 for the year

Which makes it

1. Infinity War
2. Black Panther
3. The Fallen Kingdom
4. The Incredibles 2
5. Venom
6. Mission Impossible Fallout
7. Aquaman
8. Deadpool 2
9. Bohemian Rhapsody
10. Fantastic Beasts 2

I think that's how it stands now
Not sure what's more surprising here, Venom or Bohemian.

Of the four I listed I think Joker has the best chance of doing well, particularly because of the low budget. It seems like such an off beat one, however, so I could see it struggling.

I definitely think a Joker movie could be huge but Todd Phillips is such a weird choice for director. Someone like Dan Gilroy could create a really disturbing world that would draw in horror types. Not sure the Hangover guy has that in him.

wherever
I love that they kept advertising If Beale Street Could Talk as being everywhere, and it's not even on 100 screens nationwide. I don't think I've ever seen a production company go so wrong so fast.

The worst part? They're not even making bad films; they're just spending way too damn much on them.

It was nice having a production company basically giving blank checks to talented filmmakers who aren't Nolan or Tarantino but... not exactly the most sustainable strategy

That list hasn't been updated for this week. Aquaman is 7th, on its way to being 5th. Fantastic Beasts is 10th.

EDIT: This has to be the first year in a while where all 6 major studios landed at least 1 film in the Top 10.

So glad to see Fallout up there. Terrific film!

Also happy that Aquaman is doing so well. Is Wan Billion gonna happen?

Todd Phillips did War Dogs? Optimism growing even more for Joker. I think the chances of it bombing are slim to none personally.

I mean it's a Phillips movie. His movie, his screenplay. It wouldn't be a thing without him.

This movie seems more of an low-mid budget experiment than anything. Really curious to see how it turns out.

Joker will be a hit.

My social media feed was crazy when they first showed Phoenix in his Joker make up.

I know a billion is the goal, but kind of want Aquaman to just miss it since apparently there isn't a single comic book movie in the 900 million to 1 billion range.

Because it was.

Very good movie.
Yea it was!

Seeing how well it did in it's second weekend makes me more optimistic that maybe Paramount and Habsro will see that people legit love this movie and give Travis Knight the keys to the franchise.

At least it will cross the $100 million mark domestically. I was concerned it was going to do $60-80 and just kill off the franchise completely.

Unless the rumors that Disney hires Knight for GotG3 turn out to be true. Though I guess depending on the scheduling, he could do both.

I just want Justin Lin to do a Transformers movie, though I'm not sure if Paramount will give him another franchise after Beyond (which is a shame).
