If anything Rian Johnson is the big winner here. Critical reception and WoM matter. Not everything is critic proof. That B+ cinemascore says a lot when TLJ got an A.

General Star Wars fatigue (this is the third movie in almost a year) and bad word of mouth hurt this more than TLJ methinks

I mean it's the opening weekend just like you can say TLJ massive weekend was due in part due to TFA huge gross I don't you can seriously argue that it's sequel underperforming in it's opening weekend has absolutely nothing to do with the preceding movie. It's a bit of a stretch.
