It's been half an hour since Resident Evil 3's reviews hit, and while the game still stands on a very competent 80 on Metacritic, it's definitely a step down from Resident Evil 2's critical acclaim. While only another catastrophe on the level of RE6 could kill the prestige that the Resident Evil name carries nowadays, it's true that they have been pumping out these games very, very quickly.
So, my idea is this: while they slowly build up to Resident Evil 4 / CV / whatever RE they remake in the same way that they started teasing REmake 2 after its initial announcement, Capcom should instead remake their other fixed camera series, namely Dino Crisis and Onimusha.
Not only does the "From the creators of Resident Evil" carry a weight today, they can also experiment more gameplay-wise with both DC and Onimusha. Enemies, atmosphere, writing, almost everything would be a bucket of fresh water compared to a Resident Evil remake. And then, late next gen, Capcom brings the series back with their best remake yet while benefitting from the hype. What do you think? Wouldn't it be great?
